Modulating affective experience and emotional intelligence with loving kindness meditation and transcranial direct current stimulation: A pilot study.

Positive emotional perceptions and healthy emotional intelligence (EI) are important for social functioning. In this study, we investigated whether loving kindness meditation (LKM) combined with anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) would facilitate improvements in EI and changes in affective experience of visual stimuli. LKM has been shown to increase positive emotional experiences and we hypothesized that tDCS could enhance these effects. Eighty-seven undergraduates were randomly assigned to 30 minutes of LKM or a relaxation control recording with anodal tDCS applied to the l

Evaluating the association between emotional intelligence, perceived support, and academic performance among nursing graduate students: a descriptive-correlational study.

BACKGROUND: Nursing graduate education in Pakistan is increasingly recognized as pivotal for producing competent clinical leaders, educators, and researchers. However, the rigorous academic and clinical demands place immense psychological pressure on students, potentially compromising their academic performance and overall well-being. While emotional intelligence and perceived support have been independently linked to academic success in international contexts, their collective influence on nursing students in Pakistan remains underexplored. METHODS: This study employed a cross-sectional, des

The dark side of Gen-AI-assisted clinical work collaboration: work alienation, trait emotional intelligence, and instigated interprofessional incivility.

Generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) is becoming increasingly embedded in clinical work, yet its darker interpersonal and psychological consequences in hospital settings remain underexamined. Drawing on human-AI collaboration research and the strain process within job demands-resources (JD-R) theory, this study investigates whether Gen-AI-assisted clinical work collaboration increases instigated interprofessional incivility among physicians and nurses, whether work alienation mediates this relationship, and whether trait emotional intelligence (trait EI) conditions the alienation-incivi

Understanding work ability in breast cancer survivors: A mediational approach to the roles of perceived emotional intelligence and depression.

BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of breast cancer entails multidimensional challenges regarding its impact on patients' physical, psychosocial, and emotional health. Scientific literature shows that breast cancer survivors face significant difficulties in returning to work, which is closely linked to impaired work ability. Moreover, depression -which affects a high percentage of these women- is associated with a reduced perception of their capacity to perform work-related tasks. Emotional intelligence has been identified as a key factor that may mitigate or exacerbate these difficulties.

The impact of e-cigarette use on cognitive function, emotional intelligence, and dementia risk in adolescents and young adults.

The increasing prevalence of e-cigarette use among adolescents and young adults has raised concerns about its potential association with cognitive and behavioral functions. While nicotine exposure is known to affect brain development, its associations with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, emotional intelligence (EQ), and dementia risk remain unclear. This study primarily examined the association between e-cigarette use and cognitive impairment assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Secondary analyses explored associations with ADHD symptom tendencies and

Emotional intelligence: a comparison between patients after first episode mania and those suffering from chronic bipolar disorder type I.

BACKGROUND: Deficits in emotional intelligence (EI) were detected in patients with bipolar disorder (BD), but little is known about whether these deficits are already present in patients after presenting a first episode mania (FEM). We sought (i) to compare EI in patients after a FEM, chronic BD and healthy controls (HC); (ii) to examine the effect exerted on EI by socio-demographic, clinical and neurocognitive variables in FEM patients. METHODS: The Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EIQ) was calculated with the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). Performance on MSCEIT w

The Impact of Executive Functions and Emotional Intelligence on Iowa Gambling Task Performance: Focus on Right Frontal Lobe Damage.

OBJECTIVE: Decision-making in the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) has been intensively studied regarding both the "hot" and "cold" components. The ventromedial prefrontal cortex is a key region involved in processing somatic marker information, though recent findings suggest dorsolateral regions are also important. The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is also known as a substrate of executive functions-the cold component of decision-making. However, there is contradictory evidence about the role of executive functions, as well as the hot component of decision-making-emotional intelligence. Previous fin
