Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma with aneurysmal bone cyst in the posterior mandible.

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are a rare benign lesion seen as locally destructive, rapidly expansile, and mostly affecting the long bones and vertebrae. The association of ABCs with juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (PsJOF) is predominantly seen in the extragnathic region, and it is extremely rare with only a few cases reported so far in the mandible. Here, we report one such case of a hybrid lesion in a seven-year-old boy, who presented with a solitary swelling of the left mandible showing partial obliteration of buccal vestibular sulcus, which shows juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibr

[Case report: Cemento-ossifying fibroma of the ethmoidal sinus presenting with exophthalmos].

Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous tumor which contains fibrous tissue and varying amounts of calcified tissue resembling bone, cementum or both. The tumor is frequently seen in the mandibula and maxilla, but it may rarely affect the ethmoidal sinus. In this report, CT findings of cemento-ossifying fibroma located in the ethmoidal sinus are presented.

Autogenous bone marrow graft to non-ossifying fibroma with a pathologic fracture.

Non-ossifying fibroma with a pathological fracture of the radius in a 10-year-old girl was successfully treated by curettage and autogenous bone marrow graft. The lesion was completely replaced by normal bone at 1 year after the operation. Autogenous bone-marrow graft was considered to be a useful method for the treatment of non-ossifying fibroma with minimal morbidity of the graft-harvesting site.

Osteofibrous dysplasia (ossifying fibroma of long bones). A study of 12 cases.

Osteofibrous dysplasia (ossifying fibroma of long bones) is one of the fibro-osseous lesions that affects the tibia and fibula in the first decade of life. A study of 12 patients with this lesion showed the high rate of recurrence after surgical intervention. Most commonly, the lesions are eccentrically located in the diaphysis of the tibia. Pseudarthrosis may develop in cases where the lesion is situated in the distal portion. Roentgenologic and histopathologic features are basically similar to those of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of long bones. However, bony or osteoid trabeculae covered by

Endoscopic Management of Sinonasal Ossifying Fibroma: Clinical Experience From a Single Institution.

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal ossifying fibroma (OF) is a rare benign fibro-osseous tumor that can cause locally aggressive disease of the paranasal sinuses and skull base. Data on the outcomes after contemporary endoscopic management remain limited. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed patients with pathologically confirmed sinonasal OF diagnosed at a tertiary referral center. Seven patients were included in this study. Four patients who underwent definitive endoscopic endonasal surgery with complete resection and postoperative follow-up were included in the outcome analyses. RESULTS: The lesions a

Cemento-osseous dysplasia with concomitant cemento-ossifying fibroma: a rare case report.

Despite rare reports of hybrid tumors containing cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF), its association with florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is very rare. A 38-year-old female presented for treatment of an expansive, tumoral lesion extending from the right mandibular lateral incisor to the first molar. Clinical examination revealed a significant bulging of the vestibular and lingual mandible cortices. CT scans revealed a hypodense, unilocular lesion that was relatively well-demarcated. Also, multiple mixed hyperdense/hypodense lesions were observed in the alveolar process of the jaws. An inc

Cemento-Ossifying Fibroma of the Craniofacial Region: A Diagnostically Challenging Case Report.

Cellular fibrous connective tissue, which eventually mineralizes, replaces normal bone in a class of illnesses known as benign fibro-osseous lesions. Fibrous dysplasia, ossifying fibroma, and osseous dysplasia are the three most common forms of benign fibro-osseous lesions. Because of their overlapping clinical, radiological, and histological features, many disorders can be challenging to diagnose. Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is considered a central neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that differentiates into bone and the periodontium. This has also sparked significant debate over its terminolo

Misdiagnosed long-standing unilateral nasal obstruction: ossifying fibroma of the inferior turbinate.

A man in his 20s presented with complaints of unilateral nasal obstruction for the past 6 years that progressively worsened leading to irrational use of over-the-counter nasal decongestants. With the worsening of symptoms, a non-contrast CT was done. It showed a dense expansile sclerotic lesion of the right inferior turbinate, which was excised endoscopically. Cemento-ossifying fibromas of the inferior turbinate are rare and require assessment and surgical excision to relieve the symptom of nasal obstruction. It derives its name from the variable proportions of fibrous and mineralised tissue p

Giant peripheral ossifying fibroma with coincidental squamous cell carcinoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral ossifying fibroma is an inflammatory or reactive hyperplasia of the gingiva that is usually small. It is formed by hard tissue in fibrous tissue, and the name "neoplastic lesion" has tended to be used frequently in Europe and America. Clinically, peripheral ossifying fibromas are painless, solitary, exophytic, sessile, or pedunculated and more frequently found in females than in males. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of malignant cases. We herein report the case of giant peripheral ossifying fibroma with squamous cell carcinoma. CASE PRESENTATIO

Recurrent Non-Ossifying Fibroma in Shaft of Distal Radius- A Rare Case.

INTRODUCTION: Non-ossifying fibroma are is a common benign lesions found in children. Usually, they are found in cortical bone in metaphysis, but they can also be seen in cancellous bone. Theses lesions are known to regress spontaneously. Usually, it is asymptomatic and an incidental finding on radiograph. No intervention is required. Here, we are reporting a case of symptomatic non-ossifying fibroma of radius with unusual characteristics which required surgical intervention. CASE REPORT: An 11-year-old skeletally immature girl presented to us two 2 years back with pain and swelling over the

Fibrous Dysplasia and Juvenile Psammomatoid Ossifying Fibroma: A Case of Mistaken Identity.

Juvenile psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (JPOF) is a rare benign osseous tumor, usually presenting in the midface. There are many similarities in location, presentation, and radiographic appearance between fibrous dysplasia (FD) and JPOF. Awareness of this entity is important for craniofacial surgeons, as surgical timing and intraoperative management differ between these tumors. Findings that should raise suspicion of JPOF preoperatively include rapid growth, a shell of cortical bone surrounding the lesion, and clearly demarcated borders of the lesion on imaging, as opposed to a gradual transit

Mandibular aneurysmal bone cyst associated with cemento-ossifying fibroma - a case report.

Aneurysmal bone cyst is an uncommon bone lesion which rarely occurs in craniofacial region. Among all the cystic lesions occurring in the jaws, aneurysmal bone cyst is infrequent and it more commonly occurs in the mandible. Most of the cases occur in the first two decades of life, with no gender predilection. Here, we are presenting a case of an aneurysmal bone cyst which occurred in the mandible of a twelve year old female patient.

Surgical management of two complex cases of large juvenile orbital ossifying fibroma.

Ossifying fibroma is a rare benign tumour of the craniofacial skeleton, which can have an aggressive biological behaviour in the paediatric population. Complete surgical excision, where possible, is the ideal. This case report discusses the multidisciplinary, surgical management of two complex cases of large juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF), involving the orbit. Both patients underwent resection of the orbital ossifying fibroma with no macroscopic evidence of recurrence at 4 years follow-up. Full functional outcome was achieved with preservation of vision and facial nerve function as well as g

Long-term follow-up of peripheral ossifying fibroma: report of three cases.

Peripheral ossifying fibroma is a non-neoplastic enlargement of the gingiva that is classified as a reactive hyperplastic inflammatory lesion. It is possible to misdiagnose peripheral ossifying fibroma as pyogenic granuloma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, or odontogenic tumors. Therefore, histopathological examination is essential for an accurate diagnosis of such lesions. Differential diagnosis is important, because peripheral ossifying fibroma has a tendency to recur. This article describes three cases of peripheral ossifying fibroma, which were followed for 4 years without any sign of rec

Juvenile ossifying fibroma of the mandible. An 8 year radiological follow-up.

An 8-year follow-up of a juvenile ossifying fibroma in the left mandible of a 4-year-old boy is presented. The case demonstrated initial lack of radiological evidence of demarcation and subsequent eccentric enlargement, selective tooth displacement and a multilocular appearance in areas of active growth. An aneurysmal bone cyst and a decrease in the bone content was present in the excision specimen.

Management of ossifying fibroma of the bone of the maxilla: a case report and review of the literature.

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a slow-growing benign fibro-osseous neoplasm. It is mostly odontogenic in origin, and it arises in the jaws, particularly the mandible. OF is characterized by the production of bone and cementum-like calcifications in a fibrous stroma. OF reports of the bone of the maxilla are uncommon. Diagnosing OF can be challenging due to the considerable overlap of clinico-pathological characteristics with those of other neoplasms. Herein, the authors describe a case report OF in a 26-year-old male who presented with a huge fibro-osseous tumor of the maxilla. Histopathology estab

Ossifying Fibroma in the Maxilla and Mandible: A Case Report With a Brief Literature Review.

Fibro-osseous lesions in the jaw bones include fibrous dysplasia, ossifying fibroma (OF), cemento-ossifying fibroma, florid osseous dysplasia, and focal osseous dysplasia. OF is the most common fibro-osseous tumor that presents as a slow-growing well-encapsulated benign neoplasm composed of varying amounts of bone or cement-like tissue in a fibrous stroma well-demarcated from the adjacent normal bone. OF is most common in the jaw bones, with a predilection for the mandible. OF usually occur as solitary lesions and rarely as multiple lesions in a patient. We present clinical and radiologic feat

Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma of the Nasal Bones: A Rare Cause of Chronic Epistaxis.

Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is a rare type of tumor originating from the bones of the face or cranium. It usually arises in the maxilla and rarely in the mandible. The complications related to the tumor are because of local expansion and resultant effect on the nearby organs. We present the case of an eight-year-old girl with a history of headache and chronic epistaxis for the past six months who presented acutely to the hospital due to swelling, redness, and pain in both eyes, with continuous epistaxis. After investigations, she was found to have a nasal tumor that was confirmed to be JO
