The fallopian tubes and ovaries samples from 5 breast cancer patients and 12 practically healthy women considered to be at high risk for developing ovarian cancer underwent evaluation for morphological features and immunohistochemical expression of Ki-67 and p53. A family with three members in two generations affected by pachyonychia congenita, hyperkeratosis and hyperhidrosis of the palms and soles, follicular keratosis, neonatal teeth and epidermoid cysts (Jackson-Lawler syndrome) is described. The nosological autonomy of this condition is proposed and a further heterogeneity is suggested on the basis of histopathological changes in the subcutaneous cysts.

We report two cases of multiple intrathyroidal cysts in women with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The cysts were lined by squamous and focally columnar epithelium, and they were surrounded by follicular lymphoid tissue and a fibrous capsule. They appeared similar to branchial cleft cysts of the lateral neck and were distinct from previously reported types of thyroid cysts. Although the histogenesis of these lesions is unclear, they are probably derived from developmental rests. A relationship between the cystic enlargement of these rests and the Hashimoto's disease seems likely.

In a prospective study, the concentrations of CA 125, 17 beta-oestradiol and progesterone were assayed in 52 consecutive ovarian cysts, laparoscopically suspected to be endometriomas. Cysts with dark brown 'chocolate' fluid (n = 42) were excised by CO2-laser endoscopy. Cysts with clear fluid were diagnosed by pathology as follicular cysts (n = 5) or pseudoperitoneal cysts (n = 5). While thyroglossal duct cysts are a frequent cause of cervical masses, carcinomas arising in thyroglossal duct remnants are rare. In this paper the Authors report a new case, which occurred in a young woman. The diagnosis of carcinomas in thyroglossal duct cysts almost always comes as a surprise upon pathologic examination. This is a review of cases of ovarian cyst encountered in childhood in the Manchester children's hospitals. The patients presented with acute or recurrent abdominal pain or an abdominal or pelvic mass. The commonest cyst found was a teratoma, which was discovered because of its size or because of a complication. All but one of the girls with teratomas had not reached puberty. After puberty the cysts were follicular or luteal in type, although there was one case of cystadenoma. A 60-year-old man was followed for 5 years for plaque stage mycosis fungoides (MF), follicular mucinosis (FM), and multiple recurrent acquired epidermal cysts on the face, scalp, right axilla, and inguinoscrotal areas. Topical nitrogen mustard and steroids, as well as systemic retinoids controlled the infiltrated lesions of MF, but had no effects on the cysts, which had to be removed surgically. Such cases have to be distinguished from MF in a tumor stage and may suggest that the recurrent cysts represent a paraneoplastic syndrome.
