INTRODUCTION: Cervical radiculopathy is a common cervical spine condition. There is a paucity of literature discussing the effect of partial pediculotomy and partial vertebrotomy for posterior endoscopic cervical foraminotomy (PPPV PECF) on cervical radiculopathy. We investigated the radiologic and clinical outcomes of this approach.
METHODS: This was a retrospective evaluation of 30 cases with cervical radiculopathy who underwent PPPV PECF. Preoperative, postoperative roentgenogram for evaluation of stability, computed tomography (CT) evaluation of foraminal dimensions, and area in sagittal

BACKGROUND: Recently posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) performed using a minimally-invasive surgery (MIS) approach for cervical radiculopathy due to lateral disc herniation or osseous foraminal stenosis has gained popularity. As 2 dominating MIS techniques, whether FE-PCF or MI-PCF provides superior clinical outcomes remains controversial.
OBJECTIVES: To compare clinical success rate, overall incidence of complications and reoperation rate between full-endoscopic posterior cervical foraminotomy (FE-PCF) and microendoscopic posterior cervical foraminotomy (MI-PCF) for cervical radiculopath

BACKGROUND: Posterior cervical foraminotomy is a valuable option as a treatment for cervical radiculopathy caused by osseous foraminal stenosis. Here the authors present their technique and results in a series of patients with and without previous surgery.
METHODS: Forty-five patients suffering from cervical osseous foraminal stenosis were operated on via a microendoscopic posterior approach with the EasyGO system. All procedures were video recorded and afterwards retrospectively analyzed. The primary evaluation criterion was prior surgery or no prior surgery. Additionally, postoperative outc

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: If nonoperative therapy fails, a unilateral cervical radiculopathy has traditionally been treated with anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion or posterior cervical foraminotomy/diskectomy. More recently, full-endoscopic posterior cervical foraminotomy/diskectomy (FEPCF) has gained popularity. In a cohort of patients with isolated, unilateral cervical radiculopathy, we sought to conduct a preliminary, pilot study to compare the total cost of surgical care between open and endoscopic posterior foraminotomy/diskectomy.
METHODS: A single-center, retrospective, cohort s

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether patients with myeloradiculopathy experience better improvement in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) from the addition of foraminotomy in the setting of posterior cervical decompression and fusion (PCDF).
METHODS: Adult patients who underwent ≥≥ 3-level PCDF (2017-2022) at a single tertiary center were retrospectively identified. Patients were included if their indication was myeloradiculopathy - patients were excluded if they had a combined anterior/posterior approach, an indication of infection/tumor/trauma, or incomplete 1-year PROMs. Operative notes w

Lumbar foraminal stenosis is a common cause of intractable radiculopathy that may require surgical treatment when conservative management is ineffective. Transforaminal endoscopic lumbar foraminotomy (TELF) has been developed as a minimally invasive alternative to conventional open surgery, offering reduced tissue disruption and faster recovery. However, conventional TELF techniques may provide limited decompression in complex cases involving severe bony stenosis, fibrosis, or postoperative anatomical changes. This protocol describes circumferential TELF (C-TELF), an advanced endoscopic decomp

BACKGROUND: Cervical foraminotomy (CF) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) are both used to treat 1-2 level cervical radiculopathy. We evaluated demographic and Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) to match cohorts and compare the safety/efficacy of performing CF versus ACDF for 1-2 level unilateral radiculopathy.
METHODS: This was a retrospective review of 64 patients with similar clinical and radiological data that underwent 1-2 level unilateral CF versus ACDF for cervical radiculopathy. Variables studied included operative revision rates, adverse

Following the diagnosis of unilateral cervical radiculopathy and need for surgical intervention, anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion (conventional fusion) and posterior cervical foraminotomy are common options. Although patient outcomes may be similar between the two procedures, their biomechanical effects have not been fully compared using a head-to-head approach, particularly, in relation to the amount of facet resection and internal load-sharing between spinal segments and components. The objective of this investigation was to compare load-sharing between conventional fusion and graded

With the recent development of minimally invasive techniques, minimally invasive posterior cervical foraminotomy (MIS-PCF) has become increasingly popular as a minimally invasive method to treat cervical radiculopathy. However, there are still controversies about whether MIS-PCF is superior to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of MIS-PCF and ACDF on unilateral cervical radiculopathy without myelopathy. We searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Scopus comprehensively using the terms related to MIS-PCF. Tw

BACKGROUND: Posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) is one of the standard surgeries for treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy. Full endoscopic application for PCF has recently applied to minimize traumatization of the surgical access. Here we present our early experience of full endoscopic PCF (FEPCF) and compared with results of microscope-assisted open PCF (OPCF) surgery.
METHODS: Seven cases of one level FEPCF were carried out during March and November of 2019, and seven cases of previously performed one level OPCF were included for comparison in this study. Operating time, forami

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Conventional laminoplasty is useful for expanding a stenotic spinal canal. However, it has limited use for the decompression of accompanying neural foraminal stenosis. As such, an additional posterior foraminotomy could be simultaneously applied, although this procedure carries a risk of segmental kyphosis and instability.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to elucidate the long-term surgical outcomes of additional posterior foraminotomy with laminoplasty (LF) for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) with radiculopathy.

STUDY DESIGN: A prospective study.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of prophylactic C4/C5 microforaminotomy with open-door laminoplasty for cervical myelopathy in preventing postoperative C5 palsy.
SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Postoperative C5 palsy is a common complication of cervical laminoplasty. Although the etiology of C5 palsy and preventive measures remain unclear, we hypothesize that C5 palsy is caused by C5 nerve root impairment induced by potential C4/C5 foraminal stenosis and posterior shifting of the spinal cord after laminoplasty.

OBJECTIVE: Ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) have become an increasingly attractive setting for spine surgery in recent decades. Although posterior cervical foraminotomy (PCF) is widely performed in ASCs, there are no studies supporting the safety of this practice. We aimed to demonstrate the feasibility and safety of microendoscopic (MED)-PCF in a large cohort of patients at a freestanding ASC.
METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing MED-PCF for unilateral cervical radiculopathy at a single freestanding ASC from January 2013 to December 2020 were queried. Standard demographic and perioperat

BACKGROUND: Single-level unilateral posterior cervical foraminotomy is regarded as a safe method. However, the outcomes of posterior cervical foraminotomy performed on two or three levels are uncertain and debated. We aimed to analyze the long-term clinical and radiological outcomes of posterior cervical foraminotomy at two or three levels.
METHODS: From September 2008 to December 2011, a total of 42 patients who underwent a posterior cervical foraminotomy at two or three levels and were followed for at least 3 years were analyzed with retrospective cohort study. Clinical assessments were per

Between 1963 and 1980, one or more posterior-lateral foraminotomies were performed for simple cervical radiculopathy as the sole operative procedure for 736 patients. One hundred three patients (14%) required a second posterior procedure, but only 24 (3%) cases represented true recurrent radiculopathy. There were 13 minor complications (1.5%) and no deaths or detectable incidence of air embolism. All operations were done with the patient in the sitting position. Central venous pressure monitoring was used only infrequently. There was a 96% incidence of relief of significant arm pain and/or par
