OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the long-term efficacy of topical application of a potent corticoid cream and skin stretching in the treatment of unretractable foreskin, pinpoint phimosis, balanopreputial adhesions and lichen sclerosus in prepubertal boys.
METHODS: 462 prepubertal boys (mean age 4.7 years) with unretractable foreskin applied a topical potent corticoid cream together with skin stretching twice daily for 6 weeks. Follow-up interview of all patients was performed to evaluate long-term results (median 22 months). Short- and long-term results were compared and evaluated.

This study examines the evolution of Greek and Roman medical conceptualizations of preputial aesthetics, utilizing evidence found in classical medical texts as well as clues from literature, legal sources, and art. INTRODUCTION: ZEB1 is overexpressed in patients with severe hypospadias. We examined the interaction between ZEB1 and the androgen receptor (AR) in vitro and the expression of AR in boys with hypospadias.
RESULTS: ZEB1 and AR colocalize to the nucleus. Estrogen upregulated ZEB1 and AR expression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) demonstrated that ZEB1 binds to an E-box sequence in the AR gene promoter. AR expression is higher in subjects with severe hypospadias than those with mild hypospadias and control subjects (P < 0.05). ZEB1 physically interacts with AR in human foreskin cells.

Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) form well-formed embryoid bodies (EBs) in 3D culture. These EBs are formed in culture media lacking leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) or basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in mouse and human PSCs, respectively. EBs are excellent technical tools for understanding developmental biology and inducing controlled differentiation in succeeding experimental steps. Technically speaking, EBs are spontaneously differentiated PSCs in 3D and exhibit all three lineages in a time-point/sequential manner. For example, ectoderm will form first, followed by mesoderm and endoderm.
