We conducted a study on indirect reduction and percutaneous plating in the treatment of 22 cases (mean age 50.3, S.D. 18.5, range 18-88) of non-diaphyseal fractures of long bones of the lower limb mainly using the lateral tibial head buttress plate. All cases achieved radiological union and full weight bearing walking. No major malalignment resulted and only one Gustilo III-b compound fracture required bone grafting. The clinical, laboratory, and radiologic picture of a unique patient with symmetrical fractures of the anterior tibial midshafts, dorsal ulnar cortices, and lateral metatarsals is presented. The findings are not compatible with a diagnosis of osteogenesis imperfecta or osteomalacia despite osseous fragility. The elevated serum pyrophosphate and low urine phosphate content suggest that abnormalities in phosphate metabolism may have contributed to the formation of bone which is biochemically and structurally deficient.

One hundred fractured carpal scaphoids were immobilised alternatively in above-elbow and below-elbow casts. Preventing the pronation and supination of the forearm did not reduce the immobilisation time, which, with either type of cast, averaged 7 weeks, after exclusion of the fractures with delayed union. These eight fractures, which did not unite in 3 months, were operated on using a lag screw fixation, whereafter consolidation was achieved.

BACKGROUND: Nasal fractures constitute the largest proportion of facial trauma each year, however, there is no consensus management. In this study, we investingated the role of the consultant and the functional and aesthetic outcomes of procedures performed to address nasal bone fractures.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review of patients who sustained nasal bone fractures was conducted from 8/1/14 through 1/23/18. Categorical variables were analyzed using chi-squared testing and Fisher's exact test, where appropriate, while continuous variables were compared using Mann-Whitney U testing.
