Estimation of Ankle Joint Moment From Plantar Pressure Through an Optimized Sensor Layout Using Genetic Algorithm and Deep Forest Regression.

OBJECTIVE: Ankle joint moments are critical in gait analysis, with accurate assessments typically necessitating complex inverse dynamics modeling. Pressure insoles are widely used wearable devices that have shown feasibility in estimating joint angles. However, achieving cost-effective, high-precision estimation of ankle joint moment remains challenging. This study combines genetic algorithm (GA) with deep forest regression (DFR) to optimize the number and layout of plantar pressure sensors, and estimate ankle joint moment based on plantar pressure. METHODS: 26 healthy young participants were

From physics to prediction: genetic algorithm-optimized neural network using hansen solubility parameters for pharmaceutical solubility in neat and mixed solvents.

Reliable prediction of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) solubility in complex solvent systems remains challenging. Existing models often sacrifice generalizability for accuracy or have limited applicability due to implementation complexity. The current study presents a practical, streamlined modeling framework requiring only temperature, solvent composition, and Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs) - information that is simple and readily accessible. These parameters serve as inputs for an effective and easy-to-apply model: the multilayer perceptron artificial neural network (MLPANN). Bey

Visco-hyperelastic material model fitting to experimental stress-strain curves using a genetic algorithm and its application to soft tissue simulants.

Ballistic impacts on human thorax without penetration can produce severe injuries or even death of the carrier. Soft tissue finite element models must capture the non-linear elasticity and strain-rate dependence to accurately estimate the dynamic human mechanical response. The objective of this work is the calibration of a visco-hyperelastic model for soft tissue simulants. Material model parameters have been calculated by fitting experimental stress-strain relations obtained from the literature using genetic algorithms. Several parametric analyses have been carried out during the definition o

Mimicry and well known genetic friends: molecular diagnosis in an Iranian cohort of suspected Bartter syndrome and proposition of an algorithm for clinical differential diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Bartter Syndrome is a rare, genetically heterogeneous, mainly autosomal recessively inherited condition characterized by hypochloremic hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis. Mutations in several genes encoding for ion channels localizing to the renal tubules including SLC12A1, KCNJ1, BSND, CLCNKA, CLCNKB, MAGED2 and CASR have been identified as underlying molecular cause. No genetically defined cases have been described in the Iranian population to date. Like for other rare genetic disorders, implementation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies has greatly facilitated genetic

Application of genetic algorithm-kernel partial least square as a novel nonlinear feature selection method: activity of carbonic anhydrase II inhibitors.

This paper introduces the genetic algorithm-kernel partial least square (GA-KPLS), as a novel nonlinear feature selection method. This technique combines genetic algorithms (GAs) as powerful optimization methods with KPLS as a robust nonlinear statistical method for variable selection. This feature selection method is combined with artificial neural network to develop a nonlinear QSAR model for predicting activities of a series of substituted aromatic sulfonamides as carbonic anhydrase II (CA II) inhibitors. Eight simple one- and two-dimensional descriptors were selected by GA-KPLS and conside

Research on seedling grading of Platycladus orientalis based on fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm improved by genetic sparrow family search optimization.

Platycladus orientalis seedlings possess significant ecological and economic value, but large individual quality variation often leads to poor post-transplant performance. Existing grading standards are oversimplified with ambiguous boundaries. In this study, eight-month-old P. orientalis seedlings were evaluated using in situ electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for non-destructive root assessment, combined with three aboveground morphological parameters (stem diameter, plant height, branch number). These five indices served as reliable quality predictors. To overcome the limitations of co

Diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease using FusionNet with improved secretary bird optimization algorithm for optimal MK-SVM based on imaging genetic data.

Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible central neurodegenerative disease, and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is beneficial for its prevention and early intervention treatment. In this study, we propose a novel framework, FusionNet-ISBOA-MK-SVM, which integrates a fusion network (FusionNet) and improved secretary bird optimization algorithm to optimize multikernel support vector machine for Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. The model leverages multimodality data, including functional magnetic resonance imaging and genetic information (single-nucleotide polymorphisms). Specifically, FusionN

Development of hybrid genetic-algorithm-based neural networks using regression trees for modeling air quality inside a public transportation bus.

UNLABELLED: The present study developed a novel approach to modeling indoor air quality (IAQ) of a public transportation bus by the development of hybrid genetic-algorithm-based neural networks (also known as evolutionary neural networks) with input variables optimized from using the regression trees, referred as the GART approach. This study validated the applicability of the GART modeling approach in solving complex nonlinear systems by accurately predicting the monitored contaminants of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitric oxide (NO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), 0.3-0.4 microm sized

Combined genetic and splicing analysis of BRCA1 c.[594-2A>C; 641A>G] highlights the relevance of naturally occurring in-frame transcripts for developing disease gene variant classification algorithms.

A recent analysis using family history weighting and co-observation classification modeling indicated that BRCA1 c.594-2A > C (IVS9-2A > C), previously described to cause exon 10 skipping (a truncating alteration), displays characteristics inconsistent with those of a high risk pathogenic BRCA1 variant. We used large-scale genetic and clinical resources from the ENIGMA, CIMBA and BCAC consortia to assess pathogenicity of c.594-2A > C. The combined odds for causality considering case-control, segregation and breast tumor pathology information was 3.23 × 10-8 Our data indicate that c.594-2A > C

Optimization of esterase production from Monascus purpureus Y146 by artificial neural network-genetic algorithm and its application in flavor enhancement of fermented wine.

Esterases play an important role in flavor regulation during food fermentation. In this study, a high esterase-producing strain, Monascus purpureus Y146, was used to optimize esterase production via one-factor-at-a-time experiments (OFAT), response surface methodology (RSM), and an artificial neural network with genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) approach. The esterase was partially purified and characterized, and its application in rice wine fermentation was evaluated using HS-SPME-GC-MS. The results showed that the esterase activity of the Y146 strain reached up to 1248.02 U/mL, a 4.68-fold increase

Source apportionment of human personal exposure to volatile organic compounds in homes, offices and outdoors by chemical mass balance and genetic algorithm receptor models.

A number of past studies have shown the prevalence of a considerable amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in workplace, home and outdoor microenvironments. The quantification of an individual's personal exposure to VOCs in each of these microenvironments is an essential task to recognize the health risks. In this paper, such a study of source apportionment of the human exposure to VOCs in homes, offices, and outdoors has been presented. Air samples, analysed for 25 organic compounds and sampled during one week in homes, offices, outdoors and close to persons, at seven locations in the c

Synergistic coupling of ultrasonic cavitation with tailored deep eutectic solvent systems for intensified extraction of Scutellaria Radix flavonoids: Modelling and optimization by genetic algorithm.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are increasingly recognized as viable environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional organic solvents because of their low toxicity and exceptional dissolving capabilities. In this research, 12 DESs were synthesized and systematically integrated with ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) to extract flavonoids from Scutellaria Radix. Comprehensive screening revealed that the optimal DES outperformed conventional solvents (water and 70 % ethanol) in extraction efficiency. Through statistical optimization, including single-factor experiments, response surface me

Novel Method for Extracting the Spectrum of a Supramolecular Complex via a Comprehensive Approach Involving Two-Dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy, Genetic Algorithm, and Grid Searching.

A supramolecular complex may be formed by two solutes via a weak intermolecular interaction in a solution. The spectrum of the complex is often inundated by the spectra of the solutes that are not involved in the intermolecular interaction. Herein, a novel spectral analysis approach is proposed to retrieve the spectrum of the supramolecular complex. First, a two-dimensional (2D) asynchronous spectrum is constructed. Then, a genetic algorithm is used to obtain a heuristic spectrum of the supramolecular complex. The heuristic spectrum is a linear combination of the spectrum of the complex and th

Application of a quantum genetic algorithm and QTAIM analysis in the study of structural and electronic properties of neutral bimetallic clusters NaxLiy (4 ≤ x + y ≤ 10).

Alloy clusters of NaxLiy (4 ≤ x + y ≤ 10) are studied by exploring the potential energy surface in the ab initio MP2 level with the support of a quantum genetic algorithm (QGA). In some cases, the structures have been also refined with DFT and coupled-cluster methods. The general trends of sodium-lithium structures are in line with previous studies. The ionization potentials and polarizabilities to all structures were calculated with MP2 method and the average error between these two properties compared with experimental data was 6% and 13%, respectively. The topological analysis based on quan

Optimal selection of wavelet-packet-based features using genetic algorithm in pathological assessment of patients' speech signal with unilateral vocal fold paralysis.

Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is one of the most severe types of neurogenic laryngeal disorder in which the patients, due to their vocal cords malfunction, are confronted by some serious problems. As the effect of such pathologies would be significantly evident in the reduced quality and feature variation of dysphonic voices, this study is designed to scrutinize the piecewise variation of some specific types of these features, known as energy and entropy, all over the frequency range of pathological speech signals. In order to do so, the wavelet-packet coefficients, in five consecutiv

Analysis of Genetic Algorithm for Rule-Set Production (GARP) modeling approach for predicting distributions of fleas implicated as vectors of plague, Yersinia pestis, in California.

More than 20 species of fleas in California are implicated as potential vectors of Yersinia pestis. Extremely limited spatial data exist for plague vectors-a key component to understanding where the greatest risks for human, domestic animal, and wildlife health exist. This study increases the spatial data available for 13 potential plague vectors by using the ecological niche modeling system Genetic Algorithm for Rule-Set Production (GARP) to predict their respective distributions. Because the available sample sizes in our data set varied greatly from one species to another, we also performed
