INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Gingivitis is a reversible, mild inflammation, whereas periodontitis is a chronic condition with irreversible tissue destruction. Despite the widespread use of clinical indicators, their lack of molecular specificity limits mechanistic diagnosis. Gingival crevicular fluid, a noninvasive medium reflecting localized immune activity, has been insufficiently explored in proteomic studies to distinguish gingivitis from periodontitis. This study revealed quantitative proteomics and network analysis to identify distinct molecular characteristics differentiating the two conditio

OBJECTIVE: Gingival recession is a complication that can occur after orthodontic treatment, and its cause is still very controversial in the literature. The objective of this study was to report a clinical case of orthodontic retreatment conducted with in-office aligners and root coverage using free gingival graft, connective tissue graft, and Emdogaim for a patient with severe gingival recession.
CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS: This report presents a potential solution to correct a gingival recession with in-office clear aligner. A mandibular left lateral incisor whose root was positioned buccally

Strawberry gingivitis is a rare oral manifestation of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, formerly known as Wegener's granulomatosis). It manifests as a red-purple hyperplastic gingivitis that frequently goes unrecognized as a disease-specific symptom, especially if it is the primary and only manifestation of the disease. GPA is a systemic necrotizing granulomatous vasculitis that takes a fatal course without treatment. Oral health care providers, who are among the first to examine the oral cavity, should be familiar with its typical appearance, clinical course, diagnostic parameters, and m

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the proteome composition of gingival crevicular fluid obtained from healthy periodontium, gingivitis and chronic periodontitis affected sites.
BACKGROUND: Owing to its site-specific nature, gingival crevicular fluid is ideal for studying biological processes that occur during periodontal health and disease progression. However, few studies have been conducted into the gingival crevicular fluid proteome due to the small volumes obtained.
METHODS: Fifteen males were chosen for each of three different groups, healthy periodontium, gingivitis and c

The present study concerns an investigation carried out to determine the effects of gingival stimulation on the resolution of a human experimental gingivitis. 10 young male dental students participated in the experiment. Following the baseline examination (day 0), the participants were instructed to abstain from all oral hygiene procedures during a 21-day period. Heavy plaque accumulation and gingivitis developed during the 21-day induction period. On the evening of the 21st day, active oral hygiene measures were reinstitued, for an 8-day period, using 2 different methods. For the left side of

BACKGROUND: Gingival Recession (GR) is defined as the displacement of the soft tissue margin apical to the cementoenamel junction which can lead to root exposure and hypersensitivity. Treatment of GR has become an important therapeutic issue due to the increasing number of cosmetic requests from patients. Several techniques exist for the management of GR that include Sub-Epithelial Connective Tissue Graft (SECTG), Pedicle Graft (lateral and coronal), and Free Gingival Graft (FGG) and more. FGG is a non-submerged grafting procedure carried out for the management of recession defects. However, F

Clinical conditions known as desquamative gingivitis (DG) are characterized by erythema, ulceration, erosion, and blistering or desquamation of the marginal and attached gingiva, which can be localized or widespread. DG is a clinical description of oral lesions rather than a definitive diagnosis. In many common forms of DG, the initial presentation is typically desquamation or erosion on the labial surface of anterior teeth. Although DG may be caused by a broad range of local and systemic conditions, pemphigus vulgaris, oral lichen planus, and mucous membrane pemphigoid are the most common tri

Plasma cell gingivitis (PCG) is a diagnostic dilemma for clinicians. It is also referred to as atypical gingivostomatitis, idiopathic gingivostomatitis, allergic gingivostomatitis, and plasma cell gingivostomatitis which are characterized by bright fiery red gingiva with spontaneous bleeding on slight provocation. It is often confused with inflammatory gingival enlargement, erythematosus lichen planus, and other lesions. One such rare and benign entity is discussed in this article and managed after thorough clinical, radiological, histopathology, immunohistochemistry analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Plasma cell gingivitis is an uncommon benign inflammatory condition of the gingiva which is considered to arise as a hypersensitivity reaction to certain allergens. The distinguishing feature of this condition is massive infiltration of plasma cells into the subepithelial connective tissue. This case report discusses a case of plasma cell gingivitis which produced a diagnostic dilemma due to its unusual histopathologic appearance.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old female patient presented with diffuse gingival enlargement in relationship to upper anterior teeth. The case was mana

BACKGROUND: Plasma cell gingivitis (PCG) is a rare condition of the gingiva, characterized histopathologically by infiltration of plasma cells in connective tissue. Hypersensitivity reaction due to antigen is considered as primary etiological factor.
CASE PRESENTATION: The present case is of an 18-year-old male patient suffering from gingival enlargement along with cheilitis. Histopathological and immunohistochemistry of tissue revealed lesion as plasma cell gingivitis. After gingivectomy, the follow up of the patient was done for 8 months. Gradual reduction of lip swelling was observed after

This study profiled the local and systemic inflammatory responses to experimentally induced gingivitis. Eight females participated in a 21-day experimental gingivitis model followed by a 14-day resolution phase. Bleeding on probing and plaque index scores were assessed before, during, and after resolution of gingival inflammation, and samples of saliva, GCF, and plasma were collected. Samples were assessed for biomarkers of inflammation using the BioPlex platform and ELISA. There were no significant changes in GCF levels of cytokines during the experimental phase; however, individual variabili

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of gingival inflammation and the prevalence of periodontopathogenic microorganisms in adolescents with chronic gingivitis, as well as to compare the effectiveness of two approaches in gingivitis treatment-basic therapy alone and basic therapy + adjunctive low-level laser therapy (LLLT). After periodontal evaluation, the content of gingival pockets of 140 adolescents with gingivitis was analyzed by multiplex PCR for the presence of P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans, T. forsythensis and P. intermedia. Subsequent to bacteria detection, th
