Association of cardiometabolic index and glomerular filtration rate with sleep disorders: NHANES 2005-2020.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that sleep disorders are not only related to cardiac metabolism, but also strongly associated with renal insufficiency. This study aimed to examine whether there is a correlation between cardiometabolic index (CMI), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and sleep disorders in U.S. adults from 2005 to 2020. METHODS: This cohort study examined U.S. adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2020 (through March 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic). Participants included in the study had complete sleep data, waist circu

Performance evaluation of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equations in Asia: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) poses a global public health challenge, necessitating accurate assessment of renal function for timely intervention. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a crucial indicator, traditionally measured using creatinine-based equations. However, Cystatin C-based equations offer potential advantages. We aim to evaluate the performance of estimated GFR (eGFR) equations for accurate renal function assessment in diverse Asian populations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, the systematic review covered studies from 1991 to 2023 across Asian po

Relationship between cortical and medullary thickness and glomerular filtration rate among living kidney donors.

The relationship between the kidney cortex and medulla is not well understood in healthy populations. This study characterised the relationship between cortical/medullary thickness and measured glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in 390 living kidney donors. A positive relationship was observed between medullary, but not cortical, thickness and GFR. We propose that this reflects a correlation between juxtamedullary nephron number and GFR.

Simplified Iohexol-Based Method for Measurement of Glomerular Filtration Rate in Goats and Pigs.

The preclinical evaluation of novel therapies for chronic kidney disease requires a simple method for the assessment of kidney function in a uremic large animal model. An intravenous bolus of iohexol was administered to goats (13 measurements in n = 3 goats) and pigs (23 measurements in n = 5 pigs) before and after induction of kidney failure, followed by frequent blood sampling up to 1440 min. Plasma clearance (CL) was estimated by a nonlinear mixed-effects model (CLNLME) and by a one-compartmental pharmacokinetic disposition model using iohexol plasma concentrations during the terminal elimi

Agreement and Precision Analyses of Various Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate Formulae in Cancer Patients.

The accuracy of the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in cancer patients is very important for dose adjustments of anti-malignancy drugs to reduce toxicities and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Therefore, the performance of eGFR equations, including their bias, precision, and accuracy, was explored in patients with varying stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) who needed anti-cancer drugs. The reference glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was assessed by the 99mTc-diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid (99mTc-DTPA) plasma clearance method in 320 patients and compared with the GFRs estimat

Transcutaneous glomerular filtration rate measurement in a canine animal model of chronic kidney disease.

INTRODUCTION: Quantitative assessment of renal function by measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is an important part of safety and efficacy evaluation in preclinical drug development. Existing methods are often time consuming, imprecise and associated with animal burden. Here we describe the comparison between GFR determinations with sinistrin (PS-GFR) and fluorescence-labelled sinistrin-application and its transcutaneous detection (TD-GFR) in a large animal model of chronic kidney disease (CKD). METHODS: TD-GFR measurements compared to a standard method using i.v. sinistrin were p

Dipstick Proteinuria and Reduced Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate as Independent Risk Factors for Osteoporosis.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is associated with a poor quality of life and mortality. Proteinuria contributes to vitamin D deficiency and osteoblast dysfunction. The correlation between estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and bone density still remains elusive. Therefore, we sought to investigate whether reduced eGFR or proteinuria are independently associated with the osteoporotic risk. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study using community-based health survey data from January 2004 to December 2008 in southern Taiwan. Positive proteinuria was defined as presence of 1+ or more uri

Blood lead level and measured glomerular filtration rate in children with chronic kidney disease.

BACKGROUND: The role of environmental exposure to lead as a risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its progression remains controversial, and most studies have been limited by a lack of direct glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measurement. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the association between lead exposure and GFR in children with CKD. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we examined the association between blood lead levels (BLLs) and GFR measured by the plasma disappearance of iohexol among 391 participants in the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) prospective cohort study. Predictors of declining glomerular filtration rate in a population-based chronic kidney disease cohort.

BACKGROUND/AIM: A high percentage of patients with chronic kidney disease has nonprogressive disease. Classification with respect to rate of change in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) would permit a more targeted approach to these patients. The aim of this study was to study predictors of rate of change in GFR in a population-based cohort. METHODS: All prevalent patients with chronic kidney disease stage 3 in a well-defined population in Northern Europe between 1994 and 2003 were included. Clinical and biochemical data were collected from primary care and hospital medical records. GFR was est

Ascending and transverse aortic arch repair: the impact of glomerular filtration rate on mortality.

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have described the importance of renal glomerular filtration rate (GFR) as a determinant of perioperative mortality in patients with aneurysms that involve the thoracoabdominal and abdominal aorta. We studied the impact of GFR on mortality following repair of ascending and arch aneurysms. METHODS: Between February 1991 and August 2006, we performed 994 repairs of the ascending and transverse aortic arch. Nine hundred twenty patients had evaluable data for this study. Sixty-two percent were men (566/920); mean age was 65 years (range 17-89). We estimated the GFR usin

Glomerular filtration rate and salt and water reabsorption during pregnancy in the conscious rat.

1. Glomerular filtration rate (g.f.r.) and salt and water reabsorption were measured in age-matched conscious virgin rats and rats at different stages of pregnancy that were infused with saline at 40 and 200 microliters min-1. 2. G.f.r. and salt and water reabsorption were significantly higher at all stages of pregnancy irrespective of the the rate of infusion. 3. The similarity in both time course and magnitude, of changes in renal function between conscious and anaesthetized rats at the two infusion rates suggests that the detection of differences in the anaesthetized rat during pregnancy is
