The copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (Cu-BTC) with outstanding chemical and physical properties, is a novel and promising material in the field of electrochemical sensing. However, it has significant limitations for direct application in electrochemical sensing due to the relatively weak conductivity of Cu-BTC. Here, the conductivity of Cu-BTC was improved by loading Cu-BTC onto two-dimensional Ti3C2T x nanosheets with high conductivity. Thanks to the synergistic effect produced by the high conductivity of Ti3C2T x and the unique catalytic activity of Cu-BTC, the Ti3C2T x /Cu-BTC nanocompos

BACKGROUND: Stimulation of plant growth by low doses of a toxic compound is defined as a hormetic effect. Exposure of plants to low doses of glyphosate can cause stimulatory effects on growth or other variables. Sugarcane is the major biofuel and sugar-production crop cultivated in Brazil, but its expansion to new areas is limited; therefore, there is a demand for new technologies to improve sugarcane production per unit area. The use of pesticides to stimulate growth through the hormetic effect might be a suitable strategy to increase sugarcane yields. The purpose of this research was to inve

The interfacial coordination between transition metal active sites and nitrogen-containing pollutants represents a promising strategy to enable rapid and efficient photodegradation, holding profound implications for environmental remediation. Residual glyphosate (GP) herbicide in natural environments is typically degraded into a more toxic intermediate ((aminomethyl)phosphonic acid, AMPA) that hinders subsequent mineralization and phosphorus resource recovery. Herein, this study constructs an eco-friendly photocatalytic system using Ag cocatalyst-selectively modified BiVO4 (Ag/BiVO4) for susta

Bacterial populations evolve rapidly in the lab when faced with experimentally applied selective pressures. Yet how bacteria evolve in nature, in more complex multi-species communities, is both challenging to study and essential to our understanding of ecosystem responses to rapid anthropogenic change. To track bacterial evolution in a semi-natural context, we applied Roundup, a glyphosate-based herbicide (GBH) that interferes with aromatic amino acid synthesis, as a selective pressure to 1000 L ponds containing bacterioplankton communities from a pristine lake. We show that both ecological an

PURPOSE: Glyphosate and glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs), extensively used worldwide, have been associated with various health concerns, including an elevated risk of mortality. Experimental studies suggest that these herbicides may disrupt selenium homeostasis by hindering its uptake or promoting oxidative stress. However, the interplay between glyphosate exposure and selenium status remains poorly understood in epidemiological studies, particularly regarding selenium's role in modulating the mortality risk associated with glyphosate exposure in nationally representative populations.

Organophosphorus pesticides play an important role as broad-spectrum inactivating herbicides in agriculture. Developing a method for rapid and efficient organophosphorus pesticides detection is still urgent due to the increasing concern on food safety. An organo-probe (ZDA), synthesized by purine hydrazone derivative and 2,2'-dipyridylamine derivative, was applied in sensitive recognition of Cu2+ with detection limit of 300 nM. Mechanism study via density functional theory (DFT) and job's plot experiment revealed that ZDA and Cu2+ ions form a 1:2 complex quenching the fluorescence emission. Mo

Polyethoxylated tallow amine (POEA) surfactants in glyphosate formulations are understudied. They may constitute greater health risks than glyphosate itself. Lack of validated biomarkers of exposure and metabolism, as well as analytical methods for measuring POEA, limit the study of a formulation's toxicity and associated risk.

We examined the toxic effects of glyphosate on diploid (DIMF) and triploid (TRMF) fin cell lines from the Oriental Weather Loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus. The LC50 values of glyphosate estimated by methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay were 315.34 and 371.77 mg/L for DIMF and TRMF, respectively. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities in DIMF and TRMF cells gradually increased and then decreased with increasing glyphosate concentrations, reaching a maximum at 240 mg/L glyphosate. In contrast, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activities in DIMF a

The agricultural expansion over the past decades, along with the associated increase in the use of pesticides, represents a high risk for many wild species. Caiman latirostris is a South American caiman with many features that make it highly vulnerable to pesticide exposure. Considering previous finding on the genotoxicity of the glyphosate-based formulation Roundup® in this species, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possible stage-dependent effect of this compound on C. latirostris embryos through the Comet assay (CA), micronuclei (MN), and nuclear abnormalities (NA) tests. Cryptococcus neoformans is a major fungal pathogen and is a relatively common cause of life-threatening meningoencephalitis. Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide that inhibits the synthesis of aromatic amino acids via the shikimate acid pathway. This study investigated the effects of glyphosate on C. neoformans growth, melanization, and murine infection. C. neoformans was relatively resistant to glyphosate, requiring concentrations >250 microg/mL for inhibition. Melanization of C. neoformans in the presence of L-dopa was inhibited by subinhibitory concentrations of glyphosate. Glyphosate inhi

BACKGROUND: Glyphosate and its primary metabolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), are widespread environmental contaminants with potential endocrine-disrupting properties. Despite near-universal glyphosate and AMPA exposure, human studies evaluating their association with maternal hormonal regulation during gestation remain scarce.
OBJECTIVE: To assess associations between urinary glyphosate and AMPA concentrations and repeated measures of maternal hormone levels during pregnancy and explore effect modification by gestational timing and fetal sex.
METHODS: We analyzed data from 752 pregn

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides worldwide, yet its effects on the enteric nervous system (ENS) remain insufficiently understood. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of glyphosate exposure on the neurochemical phenotype of enteric neurons and levels of selected pro-inflammatory cytokines in the porcine ileum. Fifteen immature gilts were randomly assigned to three groups: control (C), low-dose glyphosate (G1; corresponding to the theoretical maximum daily intake, 0.05 mg/kg body weight/day), and higher-dose glyphosate (G2; corresponding to the acceptable daily intake, 0.

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides globally and is frequently detected in surface waters in multiple regions. Despite its toxicological relevance and potential ecological and human health implications (e.g., carcinogenity), its use was recently renewed in the European Union until 2033. A growing body of literature has showed that glyphosate can cause adverse effects in mollusks, but previous studies have focused primarily on survival, reproduction, genotoxicity, and certain cellular biomarkers, leaving its effects on molluscan behavior and embryonic development largely unknow

Glyphosate (GLY) is the most widely used pesticide in the world. Agricultural workers are exposed to GLY via ingestion and skin contact. GLY may generate epigenetic changes that might be carcinogenic. However, whether GLY is carcinogenic remains controversial. We investigated whether GLY was co-carcinogenic with ultraviolet radiation (UVR) by monitoring skin tumor development in hairless mice. Four groups of immunocompetent mice (total, N = 96) were used in the study. Two groups received GLY in drinking water (5 µg/mL or 50 µg/mL), one group received 50 µL topical GLY (6.59% w/w) three times p

BACKGROUND: Exposure to the herbicide glyphosate may contribute to anxiety-related disorders. The mechanisms by which this occurs may involve effects on brain regions or alterations of gut microbiota implicated in emotions. Pre-clinical studies use unusually high doses to which humans may not normally be exposed. The effects of glyphosate on anxiety at doses considered safe are largely unexplored.
METHODS: Adult male rats were administered glyphosate at a dose considered safe for 16 weeks. After 4 and 10 weeks, anxiety-like behaviors were tested in the open field and elevated plus maze, respe

Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicide with high efficiency, low toxicity and broad-spectrum. In recent decades, increasing evidence suggests that glyphosate may cause adverse health effects on human beings. However, until now, there is little data on the human metabolic changes. Since occupational workers are under greater health risks than ordinary people, the understanding regarding the health effects of glyphosate on occupational workers is very important for the early warning of potential damage. In this study, serum metabolic alterations in workers from three chemical factor

Glyphosate-based formulations (GBFs), such as Roundup, are the most heavily used herbicides in the world. In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that glyphosate and GBFs are probably carcinogenic to humans (group 2A), mainly for non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, this finding has been controversial, and most pesticide regulatory agencies have not followed their lead. The purpose of this review was to examine the scientific literature linking exposure to glyphosate and GBFs to the development of NHL, with emphasis on new findings since publication of the IAR

The risk of the waterborne toxicity caused by herbicides threatens the aquatic environment. In this study, propolis nanoparticles were shown to relieve the impacts of glyphosate-induced oxidative stress and immunosuppression in Nile tilapia. The control group was fed a basal diet and maintained in a glyphosate-free water (control). Simultaneously, the other three groups were exposed to sublethal concentrations of glyphosate (0.6 mg/L) and fed diets containing 0 and 10 g propolis and 10 g propolis nanoparticles for 4 weeks. Nile tilapia exposed to glyphosate for 2 and 4 weeks exhibited a signif
