Hybrid X/β-ray transmission for two-component areal-density reconstruction: a graphite/Si-C electrode study.

Two-component areal-density reconstruction from integrated transmission measurements can become ill-conditioned when the constituent materials exhibit strongly correlated radiation responses, particularly for low-Z material pairs. A hybrid X/β-ray transmission method was developed to increase response diversity by combining photon attenuation and β-particle transport within a unified response-matrix framework. Graphite/Si-C electrodes were used as a representative low-Z two-component system. Under the same normalized statistical assumptions, an idealized comparison showed more favorable respon

Laser-Induced Graphite Multi-Ion Sensor for Real-Time Assessment of Fucoxanthin Therapy in Alcoholic Liver Disease.

Oxidative stress has been recognized as a pivotal mechanism for disrupting cellular ion homeostasis and contributes to the pathogenesis of associated conditions, including alcoholic liver disease (ALD). The real-time and accurate detection of cellular ion concentrations is crucial for understanding oxidative stress-related disease pathogenesis and developing effective interventions. Herein, a multichannel electrochemical sensor was developed to simultaneously detect dynamic changes in extracellular H+, Ca2+, K+, and Na+ in HepG2 cells within an ALD cell model. This sensor was fabricated based

Highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for the detection of rutin based on graphite-doped plate-like FER zeolite.

Rutin (Vitamin P) is a natural flavonoid with pharmacological value, widely used to treat diseases, but its high-dose applications require sensitive detection methods. However, current sensors show inadequate performance. In this research, a novel ultra-sensitive electrochemical sensor toward rutin is fabricated by combining Ferrierite (FER) zeolite, graphite powder (GP) and chitosan (CS) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). This study employs plate-like FER zeolite that shortens ion diffusion pathways, together with GP that constructs conductive networks and CS that ensures stable film formati

A Weldable, Low-Cost Graphite-Based Electrode for Mn2+/MnO2 Redox Chemistry with High Volumetric Energy Density.

Aqueous rechargeable zinc-manganese batteries show considerable promise for large-scale energy storage owing to their high safety, environmental friendliness, low cost, and competitive energy density. Recently, the Mn2⁺/MnO2 deposition-dissolution mechanism has gained attention because of its high specific capacity and cycling stability. High-porosity, high-surface area carbon felt has been widely employed as a cathode to facilitate Mn2⁺ transport and MnO2 deposition, it suffers from non-weldability, high cost, as well as low volumetric energy density. Constructing coat-able slurries offers an

4.5-V-Class Safe Lithium-Ion Batteries with Silicon-Majority-Graphite Anodes Enabled by Self-Limiting Interphase.

4.5 V-class lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) pairing LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 (NMC811) cathodes with silicon-majority graphite (SmG, >1500 mAh g-1) anodes can surpass 400 Wh kg-1, but their cycling stability, safety, and low-temperature operation are constrained by the difficulty in constructing stable interphase. This study reports a hybrid-sulfonamide electrolyte (HSE) that can survive the aggressive chemistry of high-voltage NMC811 and programs a self-limiting inorganic interphase on Si by leveraging the electron-limited onset at the Si||electrolyte junction. At first lithiation, the semiconductor c

Integrating commercial graphite with network-like carbon fibers for high-rate and long-term cycling K+-storage.

K can reversibly intercalate into graphite by forming KC8 (279 mA h g-1, ≈0.2 V) in conventional carbonate electrolytes, but the large ionic radius of K+ (1.38 Å) easily results in structural degradation and rapid capacity decay. Here, commercial graphite particles are directly electrospun into network-like carbon fibers, thus forming a flexible Gr@CNF membrane. This hybrid electrode configuration can efficiently withstand the volume expansion during K+ insertion. K||Gr@CNF half-cells can stably operate for over 800 cycles (running time of 170 days at C/3) and achieve fast K+-intercalation kin

Activation potential decreasing of iron oxide/graphite felt cathode by introducing Mn in electrochemical Fenton-like reactions.

In electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs), energy consumption cannot be ignored. In this work, Mn-Fe oxide/graphite felt (GF) cathodes were synthesized by in situ reduction and low temperature calcination. The obtained Mn-Fe oxide/GF was used as cathodes to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for atrazine (ATZ) degradation in the EAOPs system. The minimal activation potential (ηmin) of PMS was used to evaluate the activity of the cathodes, and it was found that the introduction of Mn element can effectively reduce the ηmin of PMS on the Fe oxide/GF cathode. The energy consumption by

Highly Regulated Supramolecular Assembly of 2-O-Methylated α-Cyclodextrin to Construct Vertically Oriented Microrods on Graphite.

Precisely controlling self-assembled molecules to fabricate highly ordered nano/microstructures is a challenging task. Here, a simple precipitation technique with common solvents forms supramolecular microstructures with highly regulated molecular arrangements from a methylated derivative of α-cyclodextrin at the 2-O position (2-Me-α-CD). The formation of a head-to-tail channel assembly of 2-Me-α-CD through host-guest complexation with a solvent molecule such as benzene or cyclohexane yields well-defined hexagonal microrods. Specifically, the self-assembly of 2-Me-α-CD forms vertically aligned

Spectroscopic investigation of the wettability of multilayer graphene using highly ordered pyrolytic graphite as a model material.

We report the intrinsic water contact angle (WCA) of multilayer graphene, explore different methods of cleaning multilayer graphene, and evaluate the efficiency of those methods on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) was used as a model material system to study the wettability of the multilayer graphene surface by WCA measurements. A WCA value of 45° ± 3° was measured for a clean HOPG surface, which can serve as the intrinsic WCA for multilayer graphene. A 1 min plasma treatment (100 W) decreased the WCA to 6°, owing to the creation of surface defects

Adsorption and phase transitions in adsorbed systems: structural properties of CCl4 layers adsorbed on a graphite surface.

We present the results of simulations of a CCl(4) monolayer adsorbed on a graphite surface. The CCl(4) molecule was represented either by a shapeless superatom or by its atomic sites. The simulations were carried out over a large range of temperatures, from 20 K up to 340 K. We address the following problems: (1) the influence of molecular shape on the structure and stability of phases (particularly at low temperatures), and (2) the influence of the graphite corrugation on layer stability and mechanism of phase transitions. In particular, we discuss the possibility and conditions of the appear

Determination of arsenic, cadmium, lead and selenium in highly mineralized waters by graphite-furnace atomic-absorption spectrometry.

A graphite-furnace AAS method using the stabilized-temperature platform furnace (STPF) concept, mixed palladium and magnesium nitrates as chemical modifier and Zeeman background correction has been applied to the direct determination of As, Cd, Pb and Se in highly mineralized waters used for medicinal purposes. These contain 20-40 g/l. concentrations of salts, mainly sodium and magnesium chlorides, bicarbonates and sulphates. The use of a pre-atomization cool-down step to 20 degrees in the graphite-furnace programme reduced the background absorption. Increasing the mass of magnesium nitrate mo

Investigation of the Structural Characteristics and Electrical Conductivity of Natural and Synthetic Coal-Derived Graphitic Carbon.

Graphitic carbon is highly valuable due to its versatile applications in industry, and coal-derived graphitic carbon represents a significant and abundant resource. Electrical conductivity is a critical parameter for its performance during utilization. In this study, the carbon structural features and electrical conductivity of both naturally graphitized coal series and synthetic series produced by high-temperature treatment were comparatively studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), etc. Structures of coal-derived

Modulating the Structure of Graphitic Carbon Nitride for Accelerated Charge Separation and Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution.

Graphitic carbon nitride (CN) is considered a promising metal-free photocatalyst due to its adjustable electronic band structure and straightforward synthesis. Nevertheless, the practical utility of pristine CN is hindered by its rapid carrier recombination rate and low electrical conductivity. In this study, we enhanced CN's molecular structure through copolymerization with organic molecules, thereby optimizing its crystallinity, resulting in significant improvements. The optimized photocatalyst, termed CNBM, demonstrated a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 23.13 mmol·h-1·g-1, a 118-fold

Electron-permeable graphitic atomic barrier confers paradoxical enhancement of fibrosarcoma apoptosis by Ptzymes.

Fibrosarcoma, a highly invasive sarcoma with redundant apoptotic networks, exhibits profound resistance to conventional therapies. Platinum nanozymes (Ptzymes) combine DNA-damaging activity with catalytic redox modulation; however, their application is limited by uncontrolled catalytic activity and off-target toxicity. This design effectively suppresses Pt ion leakage while preserving catalytic activity, enabling more controlled oxidative stress modulation. Pt@G NPs exhibit enhanced cytotoxicity toward HT1080 fibrosarcoma cells (120%) compared with bare Ptzymes, while showing reduced cytotoxic

Nanostructured graphitic carbon nitride based ultrasensing electrochemical biosensor for food toxin detection.

We report results of the studies related to the fabrication of thionine functionalized graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets based ultrasensing platform for food toxin (Aflatoxin B1, AfB1) detection. The synthesis of graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C3N4) was carried out by polycondensation of melamine followed by chemical exfoliation. Further, thionine was used for the functionalization of g-C3N4 (Thn/g-C3N4) and deposited electrophoretically onto the indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass electrode. The fabricated Thn/g-C3N4/ITO electrode was covalently immobilized by EDC-NHS chemistry with

Phenyl doped graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets for sensing of copper ions in living cells.

Copper (Cu) is a vital metal element for humans and animals. Monitoring and evaluating the concentration level of Cu2+ in a biological body is an effective way to prevent a variety of diseases. In this work, phenyl doped graphitic carbon nitride (PDCN) nanosheets with strong green fluorescence exhibited a sensitive and selective detection for Cu2+ with a linear range from 0.1-2.0 μmol L-1. Furthermore, fluorescent imaging was applied to semiquantitatively detect Cu2+ in HeLa cells using PDCN nanosheets as the probe, which can avoid the interference of background autofluorescence. Synthesis of graphitic carbon nitride/cadmium sulfide core-shell nanofibers for enhanced photocatalysis.

The synthesis of graphitic carbon nitride/cadmium sulfide core-shell nanofibers has been studied for the improved photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) dye. The enhancement in photocatalytic activity in g-C3N4@CdS core-shell nanostructures has been increased by controlling the thickness of the CdS shell. Additionally, the favorable bandgap, suitable band positions, and high thermal stability played an important role to enhance the photodegradation rate of catalysts. g-C3N4@CdS core-shell nanofiber arrays were synthesized by using a simple two-step process. g-C3N4 nanofiber (gcnf) was synthes

Barbituric acid-modified graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets for ratiometric fluorescent detection of Cu2.

In this work, barbituric acid-modified graphitic carbon nitride (BCN) nanosheets with blue-green fluorescence were prepared by a copolymerization of dicyandiamide with barbituric acid and then by a chemical oxidation process. A ratiometric fluorescent sensor for Cu2+ was designed by using BCN nanosheets as the report probe and Ru(bpy)3Cl2 as the reference probe. In the presence of different concentrations of Cu2+, the blue-green fluorescence of BCN nanosheets was drastically quenched, while the red fluorescence of Ru(bpy)3Cl2 remained constant. The color of the sensor changed from blue-green t

Crystal-Face Tailored Graphitic Carbon Nitride Films for High-Performance Photoelectrochemical Cells.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) has been widely studied as a promising candidate for water splitting, owing to its metal-free nature, moderate band gap, and low cost. However, its photocurrent density is still very low for photoelectrochemical cell applications. In this work, a crystal face tailored g-CN photoelectrode has been fabricated by a facile thermal vapor deposition method. We use the melamine formaldehyde resin as a new precursor and have successfully fabricated g-CN films. The intensity ratio between two typical peaks (100) and (001) of g-CN is very different from that in the existi

Direct growth of aligned graphitic nanoribbons from a DNA template by chemical vapour deposition.

Graphene, laterally confined within narrow ribbons, exhibits a bandgap and is envisioned as a next-generation material for high-performance electronics. To take advantage of this phenomenon, there is a critical need to develop methodologies that result in graphene ribbons <10 nm in width. Here we report the use of metal salts infused within stretched DNA as catalysts to grow nanoscopic graphitic nanoribbons. The nanoribbons are termed graphitic as they have been determined to consist of regions of sp(2) and sp(3) character. The nanoscopic graphitic nanoribbons are micrometres in length, <10 nm
