OBJECTIVE: To assess the readability and the comprehensiveness of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) utilized in primary headache disorders literature.
BACKGROUND: As the health-care landscape has evolved toward a patient-centric model, numerous PROMs have been developed to capture treatment outcomes in patients with headache disorders. For these PROMs to advance our understanding of headache disorders and their treatment impact, they must be easy to understand (i.e., reading grade level 6 or less) and comprehensively capture what matters to patients with headache. The aim of this stud

Primary headache disorder is the main cause of headache attacks, leading to significant disability and impaired quality of life. This disorder is increasingly recognized as a heterogeneous condition with a complex network of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. However, the timely diagnosis and effective treatment of these headaches remain challenging. Precision medicine is a potential strategy based on P4 (predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory) medicine that may bring new insights for headache care. Recent machine learning advances and widely available molecular bi

Headache is one of the most common diagnoses in neurology. A thorough understanding of the clinical presentation of secondary headache, which can be life-threatening, is critical. This review provides an overview of the diagnostic approach to a patient with headache, including discussion of "red," "orange," and "green" flags. We emphasize particular scenarios to help tailor the clinical workup to individual circumstances such as in pregnant women, when particular attention must be paid to the effects of blood pressure and hypercoagulability, as well as in older adults, where there is a need fo

OBJECTIVE: Existing systematic reviews and meta-analyses indicate that acupuncture has similar clinical effectiveness in the prevention of headache disorders (HDs) as drug therapy, but with fewer side effects. As such, examining acupuncture's use in a pragmatic, real-world setting would be valuable. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of acupuncture and prophylactic drug treatment (PDT) on headache frequency in patients with HDs, under real-world clinical conditions.
METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of patients with HDs referred to a pain clinic, using electronic health re

After a thorough review of the history and presentation of a child's facial pain, a targeted head and neck examination is critical to the appropriate diagnosis of facial pain and temporomandibular joint disorders. It is critical to distinguish between the structural (trauma, degenerative disease, and tumor) and nonstructural (neurogenic, myogenic, and psychological) causes of pain, which will allow for incorporation of appropriate strategies of medical, psychological, dental, and surgical therapies.

OBJECTIVES: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are considered to be comorbid with headaches. Earlier population studies have suggested that TMD may also be a risk factor for migraine progression. If that is true, TMD should be associated with specific headache syndromes (eg, migraine and chronic migraine), but not with headaches overall. Accordingly, our aim was to explore the relationship between TMD subtypes and severity with primary headaches in a controlled clinical study.
METHODS: The sample consisted of 300 individuals. TMDs were assessed using the Research Diagnostic Criteria for TMD,

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare inherited illness, which includes an autosomal dominant and also a recessive X-linked variant. Its main clinical characteristic is a generalised connective tissue involving collagen and elastin, causing fragile and hyperextensible skin, loose jointedness and bruising. Many clinical subtypes are described, each of a different severity degree pattern. The correlation of this syndrome and headache disorders is rare. In this paper we describe the case of a young woman with Type II (less severe) Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and headache.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this research is to verify through a blind, controlled study if there is a positive correlation between tension-type headache and the most likely causative factors. In accordance with the headache classification of the international headache society, they are: oro-mandibular dysfunction; psychosocial stress; anxiety; depression; headache as a delusion or an idea; muscular stress; drug overuse for tension-type headaches.
METHODS: The subjects who participated in the study were selected from patients diagnosed as having tension-type headache. The patients were of both

INTRODUCTION: Currently, neurological diseases has surpassed cardiovascular diseases as the primary cause of global disease burden. Among these, headache disorders are the most prevalent and have emerged as the main cause of disability in people under 50 years old in recent years. Since the release of GBD 2021, there has been no comprehensive systematic exposition on the burden of headache among individuals under 50 years old and a forecast for future burdens. This study aims to quantify the global, regional, and national burden of headache disorders among people under 50 from 1992 to 2021 and

BACKGROUND: The role of inflammation and cytokines in the pathophysiology of primary headache disorders is uncertain. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to synthesise the results of studies comparing peripheral blood cytokine levels between patients with migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache, or new daily persistent headache (NDPH), and healthy controls; and in migraine between the ictal and interictal stages.
METHODS: We searched PubMed/Medline and Embase from inception until July 2022. We included original research studies which measured unstimulated levels of an

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review is to determine the concurrent prevalence of temporomandibular disorders and headaches in patients.
INTRODUCTION: Temporomandibular disorders affect the temporomandibular joint and associated orofacial structures. It is the second-most common musculoskeletal disorder experienced by adults. Headache is one of the most pervasive neurological disorders and can be an extremely disabling condition. Temporomandibular disorders and headache are known to often occur simultaneously and have a bi-directional relationship due to their close anatomical association.

Headache disorders, characterized by recurrent headache, are among the most common disorders of the nervous system. The aim of this study was to document epidemiological and economic burden due to headache globally and in India and suggest a public health approach to address headache disorders for India. We reviewed the available literature on burden due to headache, its management using a primary health care approach and health system barriers, with special emphasis on India. Globally, it has been estimated that prevalence of current headache disorder (symptomatic within last year) among adul

BACKGROUND: Primary headache disorders are common and burdensome conditions. They are associated to several comorbidities, such as cardiovascular or psychiatric ones, which, in turn, contribute to the global burden of headache. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of the pooled prevalence of comorbidities of primary headache disorders using a meta-analytical approach based on studies published between 2000 and 2020.
METHODS: Scopus was searched for primary research (clinical and population studies) in which medical comorbidities were described in adults with primary

Headache disorders are prevalent and disabling conditions impacting on people of all ages, including children and adolescents with substantial impact on their school activities and leisure time. Our study aims to report specific information on headaches in children and adolescents based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, that provides estimates for incidence, prevalence, fatal and non-fatal outcomes. We relied on 2007 and 2017 GBD estimates for prevalence and Years Lived with Disability (YLDs) at the global level and in WHO regions. The results show that, migraine and tension-type he
