The impact of health promotion on trachoma knowledge, attitudes and practice (KAP) of staff in three work settings in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory.

BACKGROUND: Globally, trachoma is the leading cause of infectious blindness and Australia is the only developed country with endemic trachoma. It is found in remote Indigenous communities burdened with poverty, overcrowding and poor hygiene. Lack of culturally appropriate health promotion, a small trachoma workforce and lack of awareness and support for trachoma elimination in general, were early barriers. METHODS: A cross-sectional pre-post study using a convenience sample, was conducted in clinics, schools and community work-settings from 63 of the 82 remote Aboriginal communities identifie

Association between age at first sexual intercourse and knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding reproductive health and unplanned pregnancy: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Age at first sexual intercourse (AFSI) is decreasing among adolescents in developed nations. An early sexual debut has been associated, to some extent, with multiple sexual partners, infrequent use of condoms, unplanned pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and sexually transmitted disease and human immunodeficiency virus infection. Unplanned pregnancy among adolescents has both physical and social adverse effects. METHODS: In total, 78,400 self-administered anonymous questionnaires were distributed to college students in seven cities in China to determine the age at which Chinese college s

Using knowledge, attitudes and practice (KAP) surveys on lymphatic filariasis to prepare a health promotion campaign for mass drug administration in Alor District, Indonesia.

We report the results of two surveys of people's knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) regarding lymphatic filariasis (LF) in Alor District, eastern Indonesia. The results of the surveys were used to prepare and evaluate the social mobilization component of a pilot mass drug administration (MDA) in five villages. In the study area, the filarial parasites Brugia timori and Wuchereria bancrofti are highly endemic. Frequent and severe adverse reactions after MDA may occur especially in areas endemic for B. timori and therefore, a special communication strategy was designed to inform and to edu

Modeling breast cancer screening hesitancy among Chinese women: integrating the Knowledge-Attitude-Practice, health belief, and 5 C frameworks.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer screening hesitancy remains a major public health concern in China, where institutional screening resources are unevenly distributed. Breast self-examination is a simple, low-cost method suitable for resource-limited settings, yet participation remains suboptimal. Previous studies have predominantly focused on knowledge and beliefs in isolation, with limited integration of broader psychological constructs. This study examined psychological mechanisms by integrating the Knowledge-Attitude-Practice framework, the Health Belief Model, and a 5 C hesitancy model. METHODS:

Interactive gamified health education to improve knowledge, attitudes, and practices on intestinal parasitic infections: A community pilot in Malaysia's urban public housing.

Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a major yet under-recognised public health challenge in rapidly urbanising settings. In Malaysia, most IPIs research has focused on indigenous communities, leaving critical knowledge gaps among urban poor populations living in public housing programmes (PHPs), where inadequate sanitation and waste management can sustain disease transmission. We conducted a pre-post pilot at one PHP in the Klang Valley to evaluate a multi-component community-based health education intervention incorporating gamified participatory learning activities on IPI-related k

Association of dietary practice, rather than knowledge or attitude, with health-related quality of life in elderly NMIBC survivors: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a critical concern in elderly non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) survivors, but modifiable dietary factors remain underexplored. Using a cross sectional design, this study aimed to investigate the association between dietary knowledge-attitude-practice (KAP) scores and HRQoL in recurrence-free elderly NMIBC patients 12 months after TURBT, and to identify which KAP dimension shows the strongest independent association. METHODS: We enrolled 106 patients (aged ≥60 years) recurrence-free at 12 months post-TURBT who completed intravesic

The effect of educational intervention based on the mobile application on women's knowledge, attitude, and practice on microplastics and health: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The pervasive issue of microplastic (MP) contamination is undeniable. The primary solution to this global problem lies in significantly reducing the amount of plastic entering the environment. Addressing such a large-scale issue is no easy feat. However, a necessary strategy involves public education. In parallel, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the effect of interventional education via a mobile phone application on improving women's knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the health effects of MPs. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial includes three

Prevalence of Plasmodium parasitaemia in blood donors and a survey of the knowledge, attitude and practices of transfusion malaria among health workers in a hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.

Malaria is one of the transfusion transmissible infections in malaria endemic countries such as Ghana. Healthy blood donors may harbour Plasmodium parasites without showing signs of malaria. Blood from such donors constitutes a risk to transfusion recipients and the recipients of this blood may go on to develop transfusion transmitted malaria (TTM). In many malaria endemic countries, blood donors are not screened for Plasmodium parasites. We investigated the prevalence of Plasmodium in blood donors in a hospital in Ghana as well as evaluate health workers knowledge, attitude and practices towa
