Health-Related Quality of Life and Medical Resource Use in Patients with Osteoporosis and Depression: A Cross-Sectional Analysis from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Background: Patients with either osteoporosis or depression are prone to develop other diseases and require more medical resources than do the general population. However, there are no studies on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and medical resource use by osteoporosis patients with comorbid depression. We conducted this study for clarifying it. Methods: This cross-sectional study from 2005 to 2010 (6 years) analyzed 9776 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) patients > 40 years old. Each patient was assigned to one of four groups: osteoporosis-positive(+) and depress

Total mortality from main causes of death (diseases of circulatory system, malignant neoplasms, injuries and poisoning) life expectancy at birth, infant and maternal mortality in Poland in the years 1970-1988 were analyzed on the basis of targets of the regional strategy for "Health for all by the year 2000" (HFA 2000). It seems that it isn't possible to achieve targets concerning mortality by the year 2000. However it is possible to decrease infant and maternal mortality. Standardization of health indicators to european population allows to compare health status of the polish population to ot

Generalizability of Indicators from the New York City Macroscope Electronic Health Record Surveillance System to Systems Based on Other EHR Platforms.

INTRODUCTION: The New York City (NYC) Macroscope is an electronic health record (EHR) surveillance system based on a distributed network of primary care records from the Hub Population Health System. In a previous 3-part series published in eGEMS, we reported the validity of health indicators from the NYC Macroscope; however, questions remained regarding their generalizability to other EHR surveillance systems. METHODS: We abstracted primary care chart data from more than 20 EHR software systems for 142 participants of the 2013-14 NYC Health and Nutrition Examination Survey who did not contri

Assessing the relationship between the rule of law and health-related indicators: Evidence from an ecological analysis of 120 countries.

OBJECTIVES: Health outcomes differ widely across countries, influenced by socioeconomic and institutional conditions. While social determinants are well studied, the role of legal and governance structures is less understood. Examining the rule of law may clarify how foundational institutions shape population health and health system performance. The aim of this study is to examine the association between the rule of law and key health outcomes, while accounting for other socioeconomic determinants. STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional ecological study. METHODS: This study analyzed data from 120 co

Validity of the Global Activity Limitation Indicator (GALI) to evaluate severity of disability.

Our aim was to estimate the validity of the Global Activity Limitation Indicator (GALI) when measuring the severity level of disability. Data came from 153 residents of Spain, who requested an evaluation of their degree of disability. We compared disability classifications (severe vs. non-severe) from GALI against those from the 36-item questionnaire WHODAS 2.0, the current gold standard measure of disability. The sensitivity of GALI to detect severe disability was 58.3% [95% confidence interval (CI):43.2-72.4], and the specificity was 84.8% (95% CI: 76.4-91.0). Thus, the validity of GALI to a
