Implementing a peer learning strategy for health systems strengthening in Ghana: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Primary healthcare, through community-based care provision, is a pathway to achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Ghana adopted the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) initiative as a national health strategy to drive UHC. Challenges with the national scale-up led to strengthening CHPS in the Upper East Region through the Ghana Essential Health Interventions Programme (GEHIP). Subsequently, CHPS+ was implemented to further strengthen CHPS and sustain the gains of GEHIP. CHPS+ adopted a peer learning implementation strategy through health personnel visits to U

Challenges and opportunities with adapting international health care quality indicators to local contexts: A descriptive case study.

BACKGROUND: International quality of care indicators provide a common framework for interoperability among different health care systems. We aimed to demonstrate the challenges and opportunities with adapting such quality indicators through the case of adapting the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) set of patient-centered outcome measures for older persons to the context of Canada. METHODS: In this descriptive case study, we purposefully recruited diverse stakeholders. Adapting a nominal group technique, we conducted group discussions to identify additional aspe

AI-Driven nanofiber platforms for essential oil delivery in dry period cows: a sustainable strategy against mastitis and antimicrobial resistance.

The routine utilisation of prophylactic antibiotics in dairy cows during the dry period has been demonstrated to accelerate the rise of antimicrobial resistance, constituting a significant challenge within the One Health framework. The incorporation of essential oils into nanofibre delivery systems provides a sustainable alternative that has become a pivotal instrument in the field of nanotechnology. This approach integrates the inherent antimicrobial properties of specific compounds with a controlled release mechanism and targeted application. It provides a solution for reducing reliance on a

The development of an EU-wide nutrition and physical activity expert knowledge base to support a personalised mobile application across various EU population groups.

A healthy lifestyle comprising regular physical activity and an adequate diet is imperative for the prevention of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and some cancers. Advances in information computer technology offer the opportunity to provide personalised lifestyle advice directly to the individual through devices such as smartphones or tablets. The overall aim of the PROTEIN project (Wilson-Barnes et al., 2021) was to develop a smartphone application that could provide tailored and dynamic nutrition and physical activity advice directly to the individual in real time. However, to

Antimicrobial resistance and social inequity: Why the one health approach must centre poverty.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most consequential threats to global public health. In 2021, bacterial AMR was associated with an estimated 4.71 million deaths globally, including 1.14 million directly attributable to resistance. Yet, despite its designation as a global emergency, policy responses remain heavily focused on surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, diagnostics, and pharmaceutical innovation. These interventions are necessary but insufficient without sustained action on the social and structural conditions shaping infection exposure, access to care, and antibiotic us

Ending AIDS by 2030 Requires Reaching People in Conflict, Displacement, and Fragile Health Systems.

Plain Language SummaryHIV care works best when people can continue testing, treatment, follow-up, and support without interruption. However, people affected by conflict, displacement, migration, and fragile health systems often face serious barriers to HIV services. When people are forced to move, they may lose access to clinics, medicines, health records, laboratory tests, and trusted health workers. This can interrupt antiretroviral treatment, delay viral load monitoring, and increase the risk that people living with HIV are left behind. This letter argues that the global goal of ending AIDS

Management, budgeting and the use of resources--a private sector view.

This very brief talk can only scratch at the surface of the way in which we approach these matters within AMI. I would remind you that we are very small in comparison with the national health service, and what is effective for us, may not be effective for you. Our philosophy is to give the manager responsibility, along with authority to act, to control the direction of the organisation centrally, but to delegate downwards the detailed day to day decision making, to measure managerial performance by results, and to emphasise above all the quality of the service we provide to our patients. Our v

Recurrent outbreaks of cholera in Nigeria: a narrative review on the role of conflict and climate change.

Cholera remains a major public health problem in Nigeria, with recurrent outbreaks linked to weak water and sanitation services. We conducted a narrative review of published studies and reports and examined how conflict and climate variability contribute to cholera risk and how these drivers interact. Evidence shows that conflict increases cholera transmission mainly through population displacement, overcrowding, and the breakdown of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems, surveillance, and health services. Climate hazards, especially heavy rainfall, flooding, and drought, increase expos

Response to bio-terrorism directed against animals.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has a long history of rapid direction, control, and eradication of devastating diseases. Our immediate response mechanisms to diseases such as avian influenza, Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis, and Newcastle disease, have long been recognized by the global emergency response community as models of control and eradication. APHIS and the U.S. livestock industries, in partnership with the Animal Agriculture Coalition, re-evaluated the Nation's animal health emergency preparedness and response systems. A new paradigm for HIV care: ethical and clinical considerations.

Although dramatic advances in clinical treatment have greatly improved the lives of many people with HIV/AIDS, many other patients do not have information about or access to these treatments because of health care providers' presumptive judgments about patients' ability to adhere to medical regimens. The authors contend that with sufficient support and education most patients, even those with difficult social and medical problems, can be helped to initiate and maintain HIV treatment in accordance with current clinical standards. This commentary delineates a new paradigm for HIV care in which p
