Evolution of HIV Health Care Workforce Needs in the U.S. Mountain West During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Mixed Method Study.

The COVID-19 pandemic drastically affected health care delivery for vulnerable populations. Many facilities shifted services to telemedicine, and people with HIV or at risk of acquiring HIV experienced interruptions in care. Simultaneously, traditional training approaches to help providers adapt were disrupted. Using a mixed method approach to examine changes over time, we integrated data on trainee needs collected by the Mountain West AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC): a 10-state needs assessment survey in 2020; feedback from a 2020 community of practice; aggregate training data from

Strained patient-provider relationship, unmotivated workforce, financial constraints, and stigma: Multiple challenges in integrating mental health care within Vietnam's methadone clinics.

This study examined current mental health practices in methadone treatment in Vietnam. We conducted 23 interviews with participants with methadone experiences (n = 12), methadone physicians (n = 6), counselors (n = 5), and one focus group with family members. Mental health issues were primarily identified through casual observation, on-site support was limited, and referrals to psychiatric care were rarely pursued. Four factors shaped this situation: (1) a strained patient-provider relationship; (2) an inadequately trained, unstable, unmotivated workforce; (3) participants' financial constrain

Pandemic Demand for SARS-CoV-2 Testing Led to Critical Supply and Workforce Shortages in U.S. Clinical and Public Health Laboratories.

COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges to clinical and public health laboratories. While U.S. laboratories have continued striving to provide quality test results during the pandemic, the uncertainty and lack of supplies became a significant hurdle, hindering day-to-day laboratory operations and the ability to increase testing capacity for both SARS-CoV-2 and non-COVID-19 testing. In addition, long-standing laboratory workforce shortages became apparent, hindering the ability of clinical and public health laboratories to rapidly increase testing. Perceptions and acceptability of co-administered albendazole, ivermectin and azithromycin mass drug administration, among the health workforce and recipient communities in Ethiopia.

Several neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) employ mass drug administration (MDA) as part of their control or elimination strategies. This has historically required multiple distinct campaigns, each targeting one or more NTDs, representing a strain on both the recipient communities and the local health workforce implementing the distribution. We explored perceptions and attitudes surrounding combined MDA among these two groups of stakeholders. Our qualitative study was nested within a cluster randomized non-inferiority safety trial of combined ivermectin, albendazole and azithromycin MDA. Using

Systematic review of guidelines for managing physical health during treatment for substance use disorders: Implications for the alcohol and other drug workforce.

ISSUES: Substance use disorders are associated with significant physical health comorbidities, necessitating an integrated treatment response. However, service fragmentation can preclude the management of physical health problems during addiction treatment. The aim of this systematic review was to synthesise the recommendations made by clinical practice guidelines for addressing the physical health of people attending alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment. APPROACH: An iterative search strategy of grey literature sources was conducted from September 2020 to February 2021 to identify clinical

Are advanced clinical practice roles in England's National Health Service a remedy for workforce problems? A qualitative study of senior staff perspectives.

OBJECTIVE: A major issue facing all health systems is improving population health while at the same time responding to both growing patient numbers and needs and developing and retaining the health care workforce. One policy response to workforce shortages has been the development of advanced clinical practice roles. In the context of an English national policy promoting such roles in the health service, we explored senior managers' and senior clinicians' perceptions of factors at the organization level that support or inhibit the introduction of advanced clinical practice roles. The investiga

A workforce enhancement model for Australian remote community Primary Health Care services: implementation of a stepped-wedge cluster randomised trial (SW-CRT).

BACKGROUND: First Nations people in Australia continue to experience a high level of socio-economic disadvantage, driven by the ongoing injustices of colonisation. In remote communities in the Northern Territory (NT) First Nations children experience early onset and persistence of middle ear infections (otitis media), preventable conductive hearing loss and developmental delay, which contribute to a trajectory of further disadvantage, particularly in education and employment. Health services are not resourced to deliver adequate care for these children. This trial of First Nations workforce en
