[Clinico-morphological characteristics of cardiogenic non-bacterial cerebral embolism].

Clinical and morphological studies were carried out in 194 patients who died in the acute period of ischemic brain stroke. Disorders of the heart rhythm were found to play the leading part in the origin of cardiogenic embolisms of cerebral vessels. It has been recorded that left atrial thrombus formation was prevalent in heart rhythm disorders whereas left ventricular was prevalent in lack of those disorders. In different heart diseases complicated by atrial fibrillation and cerebral thromboembolism, the one-third of cases did not show any heart thromboses. The content of embolisms in cerebral

Comparing the difference of adverse events with HER2 inhibitors: a study of the FDA adverse event reporting system (FAERS).

Aim and background: This study attempted to identify similarities and differences in adverse events (AEs) between human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) inhibitors, especially those related to hemorrhagic events and nervous system disorders. Methods: This study summarized the types, frequencies, and system organ classes (SOCs) of AEs of HER2 inhibitors. The US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) data from January 2004 through March 2022 was collected and analyzed. Disproportionality analyses were conducted to detect AEs signals for every HER2 inhibitor.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation associated with necrotizing fasciitis of the thigh.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) is a rare condition often associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. The association between PAVMs and brain abscesses has been previously reported, but abscesses at other locations are extremely rare. We present a 51-year-old woman with PAVM (without signs of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia) and necrotizing fasciitis of her thigh and discuss the possible relationship between the 2 disorders.

Hemostatic defects in congenital disorders of glycosylation.

A "state of the Art" lecture titled "Hemostatic Defects in Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation" was presented at the ISTH 2022 congress. Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDGs) are rare, inherited, metabolic diseases. The diagnosis of CDG is often challenging due to the broad variety of disorders, the variable level of severity, and phenotypic heterogeneity. Most CDGs are multisystem disorders, and neurologic involvement is frequent. Patients with CDG often present coagulation abnormalities characterized by low levels of procoagulant or anticoagulant factors. Antithrombin deficiency is

CNS-peripheral immune interactions in hemorrhagic stroke.

Stroke is a sudden and rapidly progressing ischemic or hemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease. When stroke damages the brain, the immune system becomes hyperactive, leading to systemic inflammatory response and immunomodulatory disorders, which could significantly impact brain damage, recovery, and prognosis of stroke. Emerging researches suggest that ischemic stroke-induced spleen contraction could activate a peripheral immune response, which may further aggravate brain injury. This review focuses on hemorrhagic strokes including intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) a

[Step by step - A diagnostic approach to bleeding disorders].

The main symptom of hemorrhagic diathesis is an increased bleeding tendency. Due to the subjectivity of various features of the bleeding history, unclarity of the family history, and an individualization of the extent of diagnostic the evaluation of a suspected bleeding disorder represents a challenging endeavour in hematology. Hemorrhagic diathesis can be divided into the following sub-categories: disorders in primary hemostasis (e. g. von Willebrand disease, different causes of thrombocytopenia), secondary hemostasis (e. g. hemophilia A and B, Vitamin K deficiency) and fibrinolysis, and in c

Evaluation of Bleeding Disorders in the Newborn.

Neonatal bleeding disorders may present a diagnostic challenge to the pediatric clinician. Isolated thrombocytopenia rarely presents as a hemorrhagic emergency. Appropriate laboratory testing with incorporation of time of presentation and disease state is crucial to formatting an appropriate differential diagnosis. Deficiencies of certain coagulation proteins coupled with multiple acquired risk factors and/or thrombocytopenia can result in a hemorrhagic emergency in the neonatal period.

Monoclonal gammopathies of thrombotic and hemorrhagic significance: mapping into a classification schema.

Monoclonal gammopathies of clinical significance represent a heterogeneous spectrum of nonmalignant disorders that may involve multiple organ systems or remain organ restricted. These conditions are driven by circulating monoclonal proteins (monoclonal immunoglobulin [MIg]) secreted by small, often indolent, B cell or plasma cell clones. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that MIg may possess both thrombogenic and hemorrhagic potential, mediated through complex and multifactorial interactions with coagulation pathways, platelets, and the vascular endothelium. In this review, we critically

Spectrum of inherited bleeding disorders in Indians.

The incidence of hereditary hemorrhagic disorders may vary according to the country and ethnic origin. Von Willebrand disease has emerged as the most common hereditary hemorrhagic disease in the industrialized world. In this series of 966 patients diagnosed to have inherited bleeding disorders, hemophilia A was the most common and was seen in 410 (42.4%) of the patients followed by platelet function defects seen in 380 (39.4%) of the patients. It is thus concluded that, similar to the white population, hemophilia A remains the most common bleeding disorder in the Indian population, although th

Molecular biology of blood coagulation.

A complex network of hemostasis proteins maintains the blood flow and integrity of the vascular system. Molecular biology techniques have led to identification and cloning of the corresponding genes, thereby providing the basis for development of various recombinant clotting factor concentrates. Further analysis of these genes allowed for phenotype and genotype correlations in patients with hemorrhagic or thromboembolic disorders and analysis of structure and function relationships of the involved proteins. All these efforts result in a greatly advanced understanding of the hemostatic network.

A Small-Molecule NIR-II Probe for the Diagnosis of Hemorrhagic Diseases.

Numerous hemorrhagic disorders, particularly those presenting deep hemorrhage, pose diagnostic challenges, often leading to delayed treatment and severe outcomes. Near-infrared (NIR)-II fluorescence imaging offers advantages such as deep tissue penetration, real-time visualization, and a high signal-to-background ratio, making it highly suitable for diagnosing hemorrhagic diseases. In this study, an NIR-II fluorescent probe LJ-2P carrying carboxylic and phosphoric acid groups is successfully applied for imaging hemorrhagic diseases. LJ-2P demonstrates a strong affinity for fibrinogen and fibri

[Occurrence of hemophilia A and von Willebrand disease in the same family].

Occurrence of the two congenital hemorrhagic disorders, von Willebrand disease (vWD) and hemophilia A, was found in the same family. The propositus was a 21-year-old male patient with findings of moderate hemophilia A. Father, the eldest sister and second eldest sister were found to have mild type I vWD. Mother was confirmed to be a hemophilia A carrier, and the eldest son of second eldest sister to be a moderate hemophilia A. These results suggest that the occurrence of the two hemorrhagic disorders may have been resulted from the incidental mating of father's vWD gene and mother's hemophilia

[Segmental ischemic lesions of the mesenteric small intestine].

Segmental ischemic disease consists of segmental infarctions and ischemic stenoses. Vasculitis (LES, polyarteritis nodosa, Schönlein-Henoch syndrome), thrombosis, arteriosclerotic changes, mechanical obstructions (adhesions, hernia, volvulus, traumas), hemorrhagic disorders are the most common causes of these intestinal lesions. The authors report their experience achieved during three years on 428 small bowel examinations; among these, 197 were double contrast enemas. Ten patients showed roentgenographic features referred to vascular diseases: 1 LES, 1 Schönlein-Henoch syndrome, 3 polyarterit

Treatment of Hemichoreoathetosis with Arrhythmic Proximal Tremor after Stroke: The Role of Zona Incerta as a Target for Deep Brain Stimulation.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the zona incerta has shown promising results in the reduction of medically refractory movement disorders. However, evidence supporting its efficacy in movement disorders secondary to hemorrhagic stroke or hemichoreoathetosis is limited. We describe a 48-year-old man who developed progressive hemichoreoathetosis with an arrhythmic, proximal tremor in his right arm following a thalamic hemorrhagic stroke. Pharmacological treatment was carried out with no change in the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) score after 4 weeks (14). After six sessions of botuli

Role of Excessive Mitochondrial Fission in Seawater Immersion Aggravated Hemorrhagic Shock-Induced Cardiac Dysfunction and the Protective Effect of Mitochondrial Division Inhibitor-1.

Aims: Seawater immersion significantly aggravated organ dysfunction following hemorrhagic shock, leading to higher mortality rate. However, the effective treatment is still unavailable in clinic. Mitochondria were involved in the onset and development of multiple organ function disorders; whether mitochondria participate in the cardiac dysfunction following seawater immersion combined with hemorrhagic shock remains poorly understood. Hence, we investigated the role and possible mechanism of mitochondria in seawater immersion combined with hemorrhage shock-induced cardiac dysfunction. Results:
