To study mechanisms of cartilage modelling, estimation of optimal parameters and regimens of laser radiation, the authors made in vitro and human experiments on nasal septum cartilages and in vivo experiments on cartilages of the floor of the auricle in rabbits and pig. Ho-laser radiation is thought the most appropriate tool for cartilage shaping. A method of non-invasive correction of the nasal septum cartilage in its distortion has been designed. 2/3 of the patients recovered or improved nasal respiration. Laser operation has no age restrictions, is non-invasive, can be made outpatiently, is

Introduction: To analyze the influencing factors of ureteral stenosis after ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy. Methods: The clinical data of 427 patients treated with ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy were selected, and the patients were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of ureteral stenosis after the operation. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to analyze the independent risk factors for postoperative ureteral stenosis, and R software and regression coefficients were used to construct a predictive model. Results: After a 1-year follow

INTRODUCTION: Although holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a highly effective surgery, there is a variable recovery period where patients may experience hematuria, dysuria, or urinary incontinence (UI). Despite preoperative consultation, there is a paucity of literature examining the effectiveness of physician-patient communication in preparing the patient for the postoperative recovery period. We sought to examine recovery expectations as a patient-reported outcome (PRO) metric for HoLEP.
METHODS: With institutional review board approval, we queried our electronic medical re

INTRODUCTION: Refinements in endoscopic instrumentation, the widespread popularization of endourology and the minimal invasiveness of endoscopic approaches have led to evolving interest in expanding applications for their use and now include incision of posterior urethral valves (PUV). We aimed to report our paediatric experience of PUV incision with Holmium:YAG laser updating of the endoscopic technique, how we set parameters for the laser energy and provide some tips and tricks to increase the likelihood of completing treatment.

PURPOSE: To identify predictors of incidental prostate cancer following Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP).
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 458 consecutive patients who underwent HoLEP. Patients were classified into two groups: patients who received prostate biopsy prior to HoLEP (biopsy group, n = 174) and patients who did not (non-biopsy group, n = 284). The two groups were compared. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the predictive factors.
RESULTS: A total of 27 patients (5.9 %) were incidentally diagnosed with prostate cancer. The incidence of pr

BACKGROUND: Bouveret's syndrome is an unusual presentation of duodenal obstruction caused by the passage of a large gallstone through a cholecystoduodenal fistula. Endoscopic therapy has been used as first-line treatment, especially in patients with high surgical risk.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 67-year-old woman who underwent an endoscopic attempt to fragment and retrieve a duodenal stone using a Holmium: Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet Laser (Ho:YAG) which resulted in small bowel obstruction. The patient successfully underwent enterolithotomy without cholecystectomy or closure of the fistula.

PURPOSE: Options for treatment of large (greater than 100 gm.) prostatic adenomas have until now been limited to open surgery or transurethral resection by skilled resectionists. Considerable blood loss, morbidity, extended hospital stay and prolonged recovery occur with open surgery for large prostatic adenomas. Endoscopic surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia has evolved during the last decade to offer the patient and surgeon significant advantages of transurethral removal of prostatic adenomas. Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate with transurethral tissue morcellation provides sign

The goal for arthroscopic stabilization of anterior glenohumeral instability is to achieve an outcome equivalent to or better than open procedures. A number of arthroscopic procedures have been advocated to reestablish continuity of the inferior glenohumeral ligament complex (IGHLC) with the glenoid. Implantable suture anchors were developed to avoid the problems associated with arthroscopic staple capsulorrhaphy like iatrogenic injury of the glenoid or humeral surface, loosening and migration of the staple. Several transosseous techniques include the need for an accessory posterior incision,

BACKGROUND: Holmium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Ho: YAG) laser technology has long been employed for urinary stone fragmentation; however, its limitations have prompted the exploration of alternative systems such as thulium lasers. This study aims to compare a novel pulsed solid-state Thulium: YAG (Tm: YAG) laser to the standard Ho: YAG laser in Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (Mini-PCNL) lithotripsy for renal calculi.
METHODS: In total, 100 patients undergoing Mini-PCNL were enrolled in this clinical trial. Fifty patients treated with a holmium laser were selected from a retrospective databa

BACKGROUND At present, promptly diagnosing sialolithiasis is easy with the assistance of various noninvasive diagnostic procedures. However, the treatment of parotid sialolithiasis remains inadequate. An immense challenge for oral maxillofacial practitioners is the treatment of large radiolucent stones, especially of those that are located in a hard-to-approach positions in the salivary ducts. This case report aims to propose the protocol of a new technique to improve the management of parotid salivary stones. In 2017, our hospital was the first medical center in Vietnam to implement this tech

PURPOSE: Transcystic laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) seems safer than transductal LCBDE and is associated with fewer biliary complications. It has traditionally been limited to smaller bile duct stones however. This study aimed to assess the ability of laser-assisted bile duct exploration by laparoendoscopy (LABEL) to increase the rate of successful transcystic LCBDE in patients with bile duct stones at the time of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
METHODS: Patients undergoing LCBDE between 2014 and 2018 were retrospectively analysed. Baseline demographic and medical characteris

Introduction: The retrograde approach is a modification that makes the percutaneous cystolitholapaxy (PCCL) a more trendy method, especially in operating rooms with limited facilities. The transurethral approach for bladder calculi lithotripsy by a laser has become popular among urologists. In this study, we investigate the feasibility and safety of retrograde assisted access for PCCL in comparison with transurethral cystolithotripsy by the holmium-YAG laser (Ho: YAG). Methods: According to the type of intervention, the patients were stratified to two matched groups. In the retrograde-assisted

BACKGROUND: Urethral polyps are rare benign pathologies seen in the male posterior urethra, more frequently originating from verumontanum. In this article, we aimed to discuss diagnosis and treatment of a urethral polyp causing hematuria and urinary infection in a 3-month-old male infant. This is the first case in the literature in which a urethral polyp is treated with Holmium yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) laser.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 3-month-old male infant, and complains were hematuria and crying during micturition. Ultrasonography and voiding cystourethrogram were used for
