Necrotic skin reaction following the administration of intramuscular injections of long-acting cabotegravir/rilpivirine and alternatively-sourced testosterone.

In this case, we describe a 52-year-old man who was switched to long-acting cabotegravir/rilpivirine (CAB/RPV LA) injectable antiretroviral therapy (ART) on a background of well-controlled HIV. He subsequently developed a painful and swollen area on his right ventrogluteal region 10 days after his first CAB/RPV LA injections when he injected alternatively sourced testosterone in the same region. Examination findings showed a firm and defined lump with ecchymosis noted on the skin overlying. His initial blood results did not show any gross abnormalities and an ultrasound of the area was equivoc

Repeated intramuscular injections of nerve growth factor induced progressive muscle hyperalgesia, facilitated temporal summation, and expanded pain areas.

Intramuscular injection of nerve growth factor (NGF) is known to induce deep-tissue mechanical hyperalgesia. In this study it was hypothesised that daily intramuscular injections of NGF produce a progressive manifestation of soreness, mechanical hyperalgesia, and temporal summation of pain. In a double-blind placebo-controlled design, 12 healthy subjects were injected on 3 days with NGF into the tibialis anterior muscle and with isotonic saline on the contralateral side. Assessments were performed before and after the injections on days 0, 1, and 2, and repeated on days 3, 6, and 10. The self-

Post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome from long-acting olanzapine intramuscular injection is rapidly reversed with physostigmine and rivastigmine.

INTRODUCTION: Post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome is a rare but serious adverse effect of depot olanzapine, typically managed with supportive care and benzodiazepines. CASE REPORTS: We report two cases of post-injection delirium/sedation syndrome following long-acting olanzapine intramuscular depot administration and describe the use of the acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, physostigmine and rivastigmine, in their management. Both patients showed rapid resolution of delirium within minutes of physostigmine administration, with no recurrence after rivastigmine maintenance therapy. The res

Application of Botulinum Neurotoxin Injections in TRAM Flap for Breast Reconstruction: Intramuscular Neural Arborization of the Rectus Abdominis Muscle.

Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is commonly performed using transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap. Previous studies have demonstrated that botulinum neurotoxin injections in TRAM flap surgeries lower the risk of necrosis and allow further expansion of arterial cross-sectional diameters. The study was designed to determine the ideal injection points for botulinum neurotoxin injection by exploring the arborization patterns of the intramuscular nerves of the rectus abdominis muscle. A modified Sihler's method was performed on 16 rectus abdominis muscle specimens. Arborizatio

Intramuscular injections within 30 days of immunization with oral poliovirus vaccine--a risk factor for vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis.

BACKGROUND: In Romania the rate of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis is for unexplained reasons 5 to 17 times higher than in other countries. Long ago it was noted that intramuscular injections administered during the incubation period of wild-type poliovirus infection increased the risk of paralytic disease (a phenomenon known as "provocation" poliomyelitis). We conducted a case-control study to explore the association between intramuscular injections and vaccine-associated poliomyelitis in Romania. METHODS: The patients were 31 young children in whom vaccine-associated paralytic po

Factors Affecting Pain, Fear, and Comfort Levels After Intramuscular Injection and Nursing Strategies.

BACKGROUND: Intramuscular (IM) injections are among the most frequently performed nursing interventions and are often associated with pain, fear, and reduced patient comfort. Although technical and individual factors influencing pain have been widely studied, limited evidence exists on the interrelationship between pain, fear, and comfort in adult patients receiving IM injections in emergency settings. AIM: This study aimed to determine factors associated with pain, fear, and comfort and to examine the relationships among these outcomes after intramuscular injection. DESIGN: This study was a

LIMIT Trial: Lidocaine with Intramuscular Injection of Benzathine Penicillin G for Treponema pallidum Treatment.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that intramuscular benzathine penicillin G (BPG) or bicillin injections cause severe pain in many patients, which may reduce adherence. Local anesthetics mixed with BPG may reduce injection pain without affecting drug effectiveness. The objective of this study was to examine if there is any benefit of adding 0.5 ml 1% lidocaine to prepackaged Benzathine Penicillin G, with respect to pain, compared to standard of care, in the treatment of Treponema pallidum infections, both 10 minutes and 24 hours after injection. Intramuscular injection of therapeutic botulinum toxin facilitates blood coagulation in experimental aging mice.

BACKGROUND: Botulinum toxin (BoNT) is a bacterial poison that acts by blocking the release of acetylcholine-containing vesicles at the neuromuscular junction. Notably, a mild amount of BoNT is known to exert therapeutic benefits against various diseases, including migraine, movement disorders, anxiety and neurocognitive deficits. BoNT treatment appears to increase platelet count in circulation. Therefore, BoNT treatment may be associated with the regulation of blood coagulation upon haemorrhagic events. However, the effects of BoNT on the degree of bleeding and clotting events have not yet bee

Safety of an Intravenous Formulation of Voriconazole as an Intramuscular Injection in Pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica).

Aspergillosis is a common disease in birds. Currently, avian aspergillosis is treated with voriconazole administered orally, although intramuscular (IM) administration increases bioavailability and is more effective in treating generalized aspergillosis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety of the intravenous formulation of voriconazole as an IM injection in the pectoral muscles of pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica) as a model for other avian species. Sixteen healthy pigeons received IM injections of voriconazole (12.5 mg/kg) and sterile saline in the right and left pectora
