OBJECTIVES: People with disabilities face many challenges in accessing dental care. We compared disparities in dental care patterns (ie, dental visits for preventive care or treatment) between adults with and without hearing, seeing, mobility, self-care, cognition, or independent living disabilities.
METHODS: We analyzed data from the 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). For outcome variables, we included self-reported dental visit (yes/no) and preventive dental visit (yes/no) within the past year. NHANES asked participants whether they had seriou

CONTEXT: Upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders are common among dental professionals. The natural history of these disorders is not well-understood. These disorders are more common in older workers, but the prevalence among younger workers has not been well-studied.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine if dental/dental hygiene students had a similar prevalence of upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders compared to age-matched clerical workers. We hypothesize students will have a lower prevalence of upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders compared to clerical workers

OBJECTIVES: To measure preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for a novel anaesthetic (dental gel) versus existing anaesthetic options for periodontal maintenance visits.
DESIGN: The study was conducted by developing and administering a survey, composed of a modified decision aid and a WTP instrument. The decision aid provided clinical information in layman's terms. Patients stated their anaesthetic preference; WTP elicited the hypothetical amount of money a subject would pay to have dental gel available for maintenance cleaning, should they require anaesthetic.
PATIENTS: Periodontal recal

INTRODUCTION: This study examined the cost-effectiveness and health impact of various dental sealant resealing scenarios for first permanent molars from the payer perspective.
METHODS: The authors used a discrete event simulation model for 4,000 recently sealed first molars in a hypothetical cohort of 1,000 children aged 7 years over a 10-year time horizon. Scenarios included a base case of no resealing, resealing at first dental visit, and resealing at the age of 12 years.
RESULTS: Without resealing, only 34.88% of teeth retained sealants after 10 years, whereas resealing at the age of 12 y

BACKGROUND: To appreciate dental care utilization in the context of socio-economic inequalities, it is imperative to identify sources of inequalities and evaluate the extent to which dental care utilization is still related to socio-economic status. This study aimed to quantify the influence of contributed determinants on dental care utilization in the context of socio-economic inequalities amongst adults residing in Tehran metropolis.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional community-based study, a stratified random sample of 1,510 subjects aged over 18 years was investigated by the zero-inflated

BACKGROUND: Oral health and regular dental care are critical to overall health. Research has found associations between oral health and infections, respiratory disease, and poor quality of life in the general population. While risks for all are increased in people with spinal cord injury (SCI), there is limited information on dental care after SCI.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this analysis was to examine factors associated with regular dental care in people with SCI.
METHODS: We analyzed data from 348 individuals with traumatic and nontraumatic SCI who were enrolled in the Fracture Risk after

BACKGROUND: The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides automatic access to subsidized dental care for eligible Australian children, but uptake is low. As cost is not a factor, socially constructed perceptions, which may be subscribed to without personal experience, were explored as potential barriers.
METHODS: Two studies with parents (child <18 years) were conducted. In Study one (N=317) participants completed a free-response task eliciting socially constructed perceptions about the dentist. These were factor-analysed in Study two (N=231), and the salience of these perceptions in rel

IOTN is an index of orthodontic treatment need that has been devised on the basis of the available evidences of the deleterious effects of malocclusion on the aesthetic and health of the dentition. It has two components i.e. an aesthetic component and a dental health component. This index is widely used in epidemiological research and by third party payment for determination of those patients who should benefit from public funding.

OBJECTIVES: The national health screening (NHS) program in Korea serves as primary prevention by detecting oral diseases early for easier management. Dental scaling helps prevent oral disease and treat early periodontal disease. This study evaluated the effects of national oral examinations (NOE) in NHS on preventive oral hygiene care and dental treatments for a 19-year follow-up study.
METHODS: We conducted a longitudinal observation of Korean adults ≥ 19 years between 2002 and 2003 from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (n = 4,669,107; men = 2,518,704; women = 2,150,403). The ind

BACKGROUND: The decline in the appropriate use of dental services from childhood to adulthood is of concern. The relative importance of factors influencing use of dental services in young adulthood should inform strategies to address this issue.
AIM: To develop models predictive of inadequate utilisation of dental care in young adults and to determine the relative importance of health behaviours, need for dental care, and socio-demographic factors. Inadequate utilisation of dental care was determined as lack of visit for dental care during the study period and as problem-based care-seeking be
