The ocular tissue is one of the most densely populated tissues in the body with extremely small blood vessels, and vascular lesions have been reported to be a factor in vision loss and visual field defects in many ocular diseases. Currently, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-targeted agents are the first line of treatment for intraocular vascular lesions, however, there are some cases in which they are not fully effective. Therefore, we explored pathogenic molecules other than VEGF, aiming to develop new molecular-targeted therapy. Using an experimental pathological model mimicking int

BACKGROUND: The majority of primary, intraocular tumors in cats originate from the uvea and include feline diffuse iris melanoma, lymphoma, and iridociliary epithelial adenoma or adenocarcinoma. In this case report, we describe for the first time the clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical findings of a rare myxoid intraocular neoplasm arising from the ciliary body in a cat.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 14-year-old, female, spayed domestic shorthaired cat was presented for evaluation of discolouration of the right eye. Upon examination, a clear to light whitish-tan, bubble-shaped intraocular

Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is defined as a non-Hodgkin lymphoma involving only the heart or pericardium. PCL is extremely rare and often misdiagnosed. We report the case of a healthy 53-year-old male who originally presented with blurred vision secondary to a right intraocular mass. Enucleation of the eye confirmed a ciliary body melanoma and, upon further investigation, the patient was discovered to have a mass in the right atrium suspicious for a myxoma. However, resection of the atrial mass revealed a low-grade B-cell PCL. The occurrence of PCL in an immunocompetent patient being invest

In many uveitis cases a biopsy of ocular tissues can enable an exact diagnosis to be established, unnecessary additional examinations to be avoided, and an appropriate therapeutic regimen to be selected. In general, follicle biopsy is performed where sarcoidosis is suspected, keratocentesis in viral uveitis and toxoplasmosis, and vitreous biopsy in tentatively diagnosed primary intraocular lymphoma (reticulosarcoma) and bacterial or mycotic endophthalmitis.

Primary choroidal lymphoma is a rare, slowly progressive intraocular malignancy. Most are low grade B cell lymphomas, often involving tissues adjacent to the choroid such as the subconjunctival space, lacrimal gland or orbit. Ideally, these lesions are biopsied to establish histopathological diagnosis. The most accessible ocular structure is biopsied. Obtaining tissue by transvitreal choroidal biopsy imparts a small but significant risk of ocular morbidity, including the need for multiple surgeries, retinal detachment and vision loss.External beam radiotherapy (EBRT) is a common and effective

BACKGROUND: Lymphoma with intraocular metastasis is an uncommon and serious disease. We describe a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with iris metastasis. Meanwhile, we refer to published case reports retrieved via a PubMed search to summarize this rare disease.
CASE PRESENTATION: Glaucoma and uveitis symptoms were found in the left eye of a 50-year-old woman upon admission to the hospital. After treatment and pathological examination, the iris of her left eye was diagnosed with DLBCL. Given the patient's unfavorable treatment options in the local hospital, primary enucleation was

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Glaucoma secondary to intraocular tumors is important to consider in eyes with a known tumor and those with unilateral or refractory glaucoma. The purpose of this review is to discuss the mechanisms and management of intraocular tumors with related secondary glaucoma.
RECENT FINDINGS: Several intraocular tumors can lead to glaucoma, including iris melanoma, iris metastasis, iris lymphoma, trabecular meshwork melanoma, choroidal melanoma, choroidal metastasis, retinoblastoma, and medulloepithelioma. The mechanisms for glaucoma include solid tumor invasion into the angle, tum

BACKGROUND: The non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) are a group of neoplasms characterized by proliferation of malignant lymphocytes. Patients with NHL have a wide variety of presenting signs and symptoms, depending largely on the site of involvement and aggressiveness of the disease. Many organs in the body may be affected, including the eye and orbit.
CASE REPORT: A 47-year-old male with a 3-year history of stage IV non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who had undergone recent monoclonal antibody therapy presented with a complaint of blur in the left eye with occasional diplopia. Significant ocular findings of

We present a case of a 74-year-old woman with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who presented with unilateral blurry vision that had progressively worsened over a few weeks. Ophthalmic examination revealed unilateral anterior chamber, vitreous body inflammation along with retinal infiltration which was initially diagnosed with posterior uveitis. Analysis of vitreous fluid aspiration was negative for bacteria, fungal and viral etiologies. Despite the broad-spectrum intraocular antibiotics, her vision continued to decline, and she later developed retinal detachment. Cytology for lymphoma was ne

A 36-year-old woman was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) by excisional biopsy of a left frontal skin lesion. During the first cycle of chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone), the patient complained of right ocular pain and inflammation. Cytologic examination using aqueous humor revealed atypical lymphocytes, suggesting intraocular ALCL involvement. Acute angle closure developed in the anterior chamber due to rapid progression of ALCL, causing pupillary block. Laser and surgical interventions were attempted but failed to relieve the pupil

Most vitreo-retinal lymphoma are rare high-grade B cell lymphoma of immune privileged sites. As there is considerable heterogeneity, the clinical management hampers the optimisation of treatment protocols. While most patients respond to a fixed intravitreal dose of 400 µg, corneal toxicity is seen in 20 to 50% of patients when administered at short intervals under 1 month. Local recurrence of disease is also seen in about 20% of patients. While systemic chemotherapy is weight or surface dependent, most intraocular treatment protocols follow a fixed dose regimen. By analysing existing published

BACKGROUND: Prior to the advent of anti-tuberculosis medications, ocular manifestations of tuberculosis, including choroidal tubercles, were common.
METHODS: A 46-year-old Hispanic male with a history of AIDS, tuberculosis and treated neurosyphilis presented for examination complaining of decreased vision in the left eye. Ophthalmoscopy revealed a large, elevated, juxtapapillary lesion consistent with a choroidal tubercle or an intraocular lymphoma.
RESULTS: During follow-up, the lesion responded well to systemic anti-tuberculosis therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: With the recent increase in incidence

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma involving brain, intraocular structures and spinal cord, without evidence of systemic disease. The majority of PCNSLs are diffuse large B-cell type. We encountered a rare case of primary dural marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) with extension into the brain in a 59-year-old man. A magnetic resonance imaging scan showed a 22-mm tumor located in the left posterior temporal lobe extending from the dura. Histopathology revealed a lymphoplasmacytic infiltration of the dura and the b

Primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL) is a rare intraocular malignancy for which the optimal therapeutic strategy remains controversial, largely due to the disease's rarity and considerable heterogeneity in treatment approaches across medical centers. While some studies suggest that combined systemic chemotherapy may prevent central nervous system progression in PVRL, others have failed to confirm such benefits, particularly given the severe treatment-related toxicities associated with intensive regimens. Although agents such as lenalidomide and Bruton's tyrosine kinase(BTK) inhibitors have de

This epidemiological study examined ocular and orbital lymphomas in the United States from 1995 to 2018, using data from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries database of 87,543 patients with ocular and adnexal malignancies. We identified 17,878 patients (20.4%) with ocular and orbital lymphomas, with an age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of 2.6 persons per million (ppm). The incidence was the highest in the orbit (ASIR = 1.24), followed by the conjunctiva (ASIR = 0.57). Non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma was the most prevalent subtype (85.4%), particularly marginal-zone lym

Currently there is no adequate experimental model available whereby the lethal infiltration of malignant lymphoma to the eye and CNS can be studied. Variant S49 mouse lymphoma cells that exhibit cell-cell adhesion properties (named Rev-2-T-6) were inoculated intraperitoneally into Balb/C mice at the ages of 6-60 days postnatal. Mice inoculated between days 6-11 postnatal developed signs of eye and CNS involvement with an apparent peak (58% of mice) at day 7. None of the mice inoculated beyond day 11 exhibited such signs. Histological analysis of these sites revealed tumorous infiltrates into a

Twenty-eight patients were identified with large B-cell lymphoma of the uvea. Uveal involvement was iris (1 case), ciliary body (1 case), or choroidal in 14 cases. Panuveal involvement was observed in 12 cases. The clinical presentation could be categorized into uveitis (8), intraocular mass (9), neovascular glaucoma (4), and vascular disorders (4). The majority (21 cases, 77%) were diagnosed at autopsy (11) or after enucleation (10). Only 7 were diagnosed with conservative techniques. Histopathologically, 3 distinct subgroups of large B-cell lymphoma could be identified: 15 were characterized
