BACKGROUND: Tube misplacement into the tracheobronchial tract is associated with pneumothorax in 0.5% of cases. NGT verification only detects the position of the tube at the end of the procedure. Therefore, a safe nasogastric tube (SNGT) was created to detect the NGT position in real time in a simple and inexpensive way. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of the SNGT prototype in Macaca fascicularis.
RESULT: An SNGT producing 50% of the TV had 100% sensitivity and specificity in detecting the position of the tube at 100% of the TV, with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 87.5

Gastrointestinal complications after cardiac surgery are relatively rare entities but carry a high mortality. We identified over 70 articles written since 2010 using the PubMed database. We included 40 in our review. The most common complications include paralytic ileus, gastrointestinal bleeding, and bowel ischemia. Patients who undergo cardiac procedures are at risk for poor perfusion of the gastrointestinal tract and, thus, at risk for resulting complications. Many patients in need of long-term feeding by tube enterostomy have neurologic or mechanical deficits that increase their risk for aspiration. To reduce this risk, a combined gastrostomy-jejunal tube has been developed. This tube permits gastric decompression while the formula is being delivered into the jejunum. The paper presents the results of studies of the small bowel in 9 patients with the Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. The indications for the study were the clinical picture of gastrointestinal bleeding and the symptoms of ileus. BACKGROUND: The ileus tube has been widely used for the treatment of acute small bowel obstruction. However, it is difficult to get the tube sufficiently adjacent to the obstruction site due to various reasons.
METHODS: We developed a novel intubation technique, named Deeper Intubation Technique (DIT), by using the Zebra Urological Guidewire and digital gastrointestinal fluoroscopy, where we deepened the catheter intubation, and further compared the effects of DIT with the Traditional Intubation Technique (TIT) on the short-term clinical outcomes of 183 patients.
