Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Repairs Radiation Enteritis Through Modulating the Gut Microbiota-Mediated Tryptophan Metabolism.

Radiation enteritis is a common complication of abdominal and pelvic radiotherapy. Several previous studies showed that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) could alleviate radiation enteritis. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of FMT in alleviating radiation enteritis and explored the mechanisms by multi-omics approaches. Briefly, C57BL/6J mice were subjected to 9 Gy irradiation to the localized abdominal field, and randomized received FMT from healthy donor mice or saline. H&E staining of harvested small intestine showed FMT decreased epithelial injury. Radiation-induced microbio

Lactobacillus fermentum remodeled the lung microbiota by crosstalk with the gut and lungs and regulated the PI3K-AKT pathway to alleviate acute lung injury.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a syndrome of acute inflammatory lung injury triggered by diverse etiological factors, which can lead to atelectasis, prolonged hypoxemia, severe respiratory distress, and high mortality. There is increasing evidence that the gut microbiota is involved in regulating pulmonary immunity, and the gut-lung axis plays a critical role in pulmonary diseases. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Lactobacillus fermentum on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI. After the establishment of an LPS-induced ALI model and gavage with L. fermentum, pul

The gut microbiome in early pregnancy is associated with the severity of nausea and vomiting: a nested case‒control study.

Approximately 70% of all pregnancies are affected by nausea and vomiting (NVP), yet the mechanisms controlling this phenomenon are not well known. Pregnancy hormones explain a large part of this effect, mostly through human chorionic gonadotropin and fetal production of GDF15, a hormone active in the brain stem. Still, there is a wide variation in the severity of symptoms, ranging from no nausea to severe vomiting requiring hospitalization (hyperemesis gravidarum). Here, we present a nested case‒control study within the large SweMaMi cohort, wherein 337 participants with severe NVP in early pr
