Blink reflex recovery cycle, before and after acute administration of orphenadrine chlorhydrate, was tested in Meige syndrome. Data here reported show, after the drug, a decrease of the unconditioned polysynaptic responses, without a significant modification of the blink reflex recovery curves. This fact rules out a specific effect of anticholinergic drugs on the pathological reduction of the inhibitory process, at an interneuronal level of these polysynaptic pathways, in Meige syndrome.

We present a 39-centimeter thecoma with ascites and elevated Ca-125 values which is compatible with an atypical/incomplete Meigs' syndrome. Giant ovarian masses with elevated Ca-125 values and ascites are an alarming combination, although Gynecologists should be aware that there are also benign entities that mimic advanced stage ovarian cancer.

BACKGROUND: Meigs' syndrome is regarded as a benign ovarian tumor accompanied by pleural effusion and ascites, both of which resolve after removal of the tumor. Patients often seek treatment in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine or other internal medicine departments due to symptoms caused by ascites or hydrothorax. Presence of fibrothecoma is not usually accompanied by elevated levels of tumor markers. In recent years, however, there have been isolated reports of fibrothecoma and Meigs' syndrome, accompanied by an increase in tumor markers. We present a case of fibrothecoma with Meigs' syndrome and elevated levels of both CA-125 (cancer antigen 125) and HE-4 (human epididymis protein 4).
