Meteorological drivers and short-term prediction of dengue fever in a tropical region of China: evidence from Hainan Province.

OBJECTIVE: Meteorological factors influence dengue transmission through nonlinear and lagged effects. This study assessed these associations in Hainan Province and developed an early risk prediction index. METHODS: Weekly dengue case and meteorological data from Hainan Province (2018-2019 and 2023-2024) were analyzed using distributed lag non-linear models (DLNMs). An early risk prediction index(ERPI) was constructed from DLNM-derived cumulative meteorological risk signals and imported cases. Predictive performance was evaluated using leave-one-year-out cross-validation and assessed by the ar

Incidence of farmer's lung leading to hospitalization and its relation to meteorological observations in Finland.

The standardized annual incidence of farmer's lung (FL) leading to hospitalization during 1980 in Finland was 50 per 100 000 persons employed in farming. Using preset uniform criteria, data were collected from all pulmonary disease units in the country. There were 186 new cases of FL in 1980. The mean age was 46 years, and 64% were women. Using the national population in 1975 as standard, the rates were standardized for age and sex. There were differences both in the incidence and in the sex ratio of FL among the farming population of the six districts of Finland. These differences are closely

[New methods in the treatment of weather sensitivity].

Changing weather fronts produce severe changes of daily rhythms. Electrical impulses arrive 1-2 days before the weather and create either atmospherics or "positive ions". They are responsible for the epidemic appearance of migraine and of thrombo-embolism. The impact of atmospheric electricity has been assessed in 1000 patients by daily urinalysis of serotonin, 5-HIAA, adrenaline, noradrenaline, histamine, thyroxine, 17-KS, 17-OH, Na, K, creatinine and diureses. The changes found in these 12 parameters allowed a classification of heat reactions into three clinical entities: 1. serotonin hyperp

Meteorological elements associated with vasovagal reactions in blood donors: Influence of collection setting and donation type.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Vasovagal reactions (VVRs) are common adverse events associated with blood donation. While previous research has focused on intrinsic donor-related risk factors, we previously identified an association between specific meteorological elements and VVR incidence. This study aims to build on our earlier findings by investigating the potential modifying effects of collection setting and donation type. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: This study analysed VVR incidence data from blood donations collected in northern Nara Prefecture, Japan, over a 3-year period (April 2020-March

Prediction and early warning model of mixed exposure to air pollution and meteorological factors on death of respiratory diseases based on machine learning.

In recent years, with the repeated occurrence of extreme weather and the continuous increase of air pollution, the incidence of weather-related diseases has increased yearly. Air pollution and extreme temperature threaten sensitive groups' lives, among which air pollution is most closely related to respiratory diseases. Owing to the skewed attention, timely intervention is necessary to better predict and warn the occurrence of death from respiratory diseases. In this paper, according to the existing research, based on a number of environmental monitoring data, the regression model is establish

The Influence of Meteorological Factors and Atmospheric Pollutants on the Risk of Preterm Birth.

Atmospheric pollutants and meteorological conditions are suspected to be causes of preterm birth. We aimed to characterize their possible association with the risk of preterm birth (defined as birth occurring before 37 completed gestational weeks). We pooled individual data from 13 birth cohorts in 11 European countries (71,493 births from the period 1994-2011, European Study of Cohorts for Air Pollution Effects (ESCAPE)). City-specific meteorological data from routine monitors were averaged over time windows spanning from 1 week to the whole pregnancy. Atmospheric pollution measurements (nitr

Spatiotemporal Risk of Bacillary Dysentery and Sensitivity to Meteorological Factors in Hunan Province, China.

Bacillary dysentery remains a public health concern in the world. Hunan Province is one of the provinces having the highest risk of bacillary dysentery in China, however, the spatial-temporal distribution, variation of bacillary dysentery and sensitivity to meteorological factors in there are unclear. In this paper, a Bayesian space-time hierarchical model (BSTHM) was used to detect space-time variation, and effects of meteorological factors between 2010 and 2015. The risk of bacillary dysentery showed apparent spatial-temporal heterogeneity. The highest risk occurred in the summer season. Eco
