Research of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in three kinds of binary solvent systems (CCl4/C6H14, CHCl3/C6H14 and C2H5OH/C6H14) on the infrared (IR) spectra was reported. Two types of carbonyl stretching vibration bands for MMA in CHCl3/C6H14 or C2H5OH/C6H14 mixtures were found with the changing of the mole fraction of CHCl3 (XCHCl3) or C2H5OH (XC2H5OH). The carbonyl stretching vibration bands at lower frequencies in the above two mixtures were attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonding between MMA and CHCl3 or C2H5OH. Nineteen cases of intracranial abscesses secondary to infection of the midface are reported. The most common underlying cause was bacterial sinusitis. This paper describes our experience with 54 eyes which were optically corrected with polymethylmethacrylate hard contact lenses following the removal, in infancy, of a congenital cataract. The lenses were tolerated well, few alterations were required and the majority of patients did not lose more than one lens a year. Our results show that it is possible to obtain visual acuity of 20/25, in unilateral congenital cataract cases.

UNLABELLED: Three-dimensional finite-element stress analyses were used to compare the fixation of tibial component configurations of surface-replacement-type total knee prostheses, bases on the stresses in the cancellous bone, in the polymethylmethacrylate, and at the bone cement-bone interface. The results indicate that, in general, metal components provide lower system stresses than polyethylene components, particularly in the methacrylate and the cancellous bone, and that one-piece designs give lower bone cement-bone interface stresses compared with those with separated condylar components.

Corneal sensitivity and thickness were measured in nine subjects. Two different types of hard contact lenses were fitted to each subject; a traditional polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) lens on one eye and a gas-permeable cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) lens on the other eye. INTRODUCTION: Sculptured artificial acrylic nails are widely used in developed countries. Methylmethacrylate was first reported in 1941 as a cause of allergic contact dermatitis. Since then, occupational contact allergies to acrylates in dentistry, orthopedic surgery, printing industry and other industries have been reported.
