De novo lesions in presumed ocular histoplasmosis-like syndrome.

Two patients with multifocal choroiditis similar or identical to POHS are presented. Colour photographs and fluorescein angiography document the occurrence of de novo lesions in the originally involved eye. The cases also demonstrate the development of new choroidal lesions within the originally involved eye, the early evolution of the "basic choroidal lesion", and the need for fluorescein angiography for visualizing the underlying choroidal lesion.

Crosstalk between Myopia and Inflammation: A Mini Review.

Myopia represents a significant public health concern worldwide, particularly affecting the ocular health of children and adolescents. The escalating prevalence of myopia in recent years underscores its urgency as a health issue among this demographic. Research indicates a profound connection between the onset of myopia, inflammatory processes and fibrosis. Individuals with inflammatory conditions like allergic conjunctivitis, choroiditis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and diabetes exhibit a heightened susceptibility to myopia. Conversely, myopic patients are at an increased risk of developing

Histoplasmosis-like choroiditis in a nonendemic area: the northwest United States.

PURPOSE: Histoplasmosis is not endemic in the U.S. northwest, but a type of multifocal choroiditis resembling ocular histoplasmosis occurs there. This study was designed to find a group of affected patients and study their clinical characteristics and immunologic responses to Histoplasma antigens. METHOD: Ten patients were found in the authors' files whose geographic histories made it unlikely that they had ever been exposed to Histoplasma capsulatum and yet they had features of ocular histoplasmosis. They were recalled for examination and testing by lymphocyte-stimulation assay for previous

Septic choroiditis with serous detachment of the retina in dogs.

The present study describes a model of multifocal septic choroiditis with serous retinal detachment after intracarotid injection of Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus faecalis. The fundus lesions occurred mainly in the tapetal area and, on ophthalmoscopic examination, were more extensive after S. aureus than after S. faecalis injection. On histopathologic examination there were microabscesses in the inner choroid and subretinal space, disrupting the outer retina but sparing the inner retina.

ROLE OF OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY ANGIOGRAPHY IN DETECTING AND MONITORING INFLAMMATORY CHOROIDAL NEOVASCULARIZATION.

PURPOSE: To investigate the utility of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) for the detection of inflammatory choroidal neovascularization (iCNV) and monitoring their response to treatment. METHODS: A retrospective review of patients with a diagnosis of uveitis and associated iCNV with active exudation was performed. Active iCNV was determined by spectral domain OCT and/or fluorescein angiogram. Spectral domain OCTA outer retina to choriocapillaris slabs was evaluated for the presence of iCNV. Follow-up OCTA images were qualitatively assessed to determine whether regression of iCNV

[Periarteritis nodosa with initial ocular involvement].

Biopsy documented polyarteritis nodosa in a patient who initially presented with ocular involvement. Although uncomun, a wide variety of ocular manifestations can be seen in polyarteritis nodosa. In this case, bilateral choroidal vasculitis was documented, first in the left eye, and one year later, in the right eye. The condition appears to be an acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy in the left eye. In the fellow eye, serpiginous choroiditis-like lesions were observed.

Diagnostic Challenges in Inflammatory Choroidal Neovascularization.

Inflammation plays a key role in the induction of choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Inflammatory choroidal neovascularization (iCNV) is a severe but uncommon complication of both infectious and non-infectious uveitides. It is hypothesized that its pathogenesis is similar to that of wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and involves hypoxia as well as the release of vascular endothelial growth factor, stromal cell-derived factor 1-alpha, and other mediators. Inflammatory CNV develops when inflammation or infection directly involves the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)-Bruch's membrane c
