Aggressive pediatric meningioma with soft tissue and lymph node metastases: a case report.

Metastatic meningioma is extremely rare, occurring in an estimated 0.1% of cases. We report a case of pediatric meningioma metastatic to cervical soft tissue and lymph nodes. An 8-year-old boy presented with headaches, dizziness, and involuntary eye flickering. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 7.5-cm parasagittal, dural-based mass with venous sinus encasement. Therapeutic embolization was followed by bilateral craniotomy, achieving subtotal resection. Histopathologic examination revealed an atypical meningioma with regions of hypercellularity, small cell morphology, sheeting archite

Ectopic ACTH-Dependent Cushing's Syndrome Emerging at a Late Stage of a Mixed Histology Neuroendocrine Neoplasm: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendocrine neoplasms encompass well-differentiated tumors (NETs) and poorly differentiated carcinomas (neuroendocrine carcinomas [NECs]), which are distinguished by their clinical behavior and molecular characteristics. They can cause paraneoplastic syndromes, such as ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS), necessitating prompt recognition and management due to severe hypercortisolism. CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old patient with a 3-year history of metastatic mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasm with a NEC and adenocarcinom

Epithelioid sarcoma of the foot with subsequent lesion in hand: metastatic lesion or second primary?

Epithelioid sarcomas (ES) are rare tumors of soft tissue that have a propensity to occur in the extremities. Epithelioid sarcomas are known to metastatise to draining lymph nodes and commonly to the lungs. Herein, a case of epithelioid sarcoma which recurred in an unusual site namely the distal phalanx of left middle finger, six months post amputation of the primary lesion in the left foot is being reported. The ipsilateral inguinal lymph node showed metastatic deposits. The tumor at both these sites had similar histology and an identical immunohistochemical (IHC) pattern showing reactivity to

Tissue sealants for the prevention of lymphoceles after radical inguinal lymph node dissection in patients with melanoma: A systematic review and individual patient data meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Postoperative lymphoceles and further wound complications occur frequently after radical inguinal lymph node dissection (ILND). In various studies, tissue sealants have shown to reduce the incidence of postoperative morbidity. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effectiveness of tissue sealants in reducing the incidence of postoperative lymphoceles following ILND in patients with melanoma was conducted. Individual patient data was requested to pool the data for meta-analysis appropriately. RESULTS:

Blue nevus of the lymph node capsule. Report of a case.

A case of blue nevus in the lymph node capsule is described. It's not a common pathology and only few cases have been reported so far. Nevus-cell aggregates in the same location are more frequent and difference between the two entities is described. So for histogenesis of these lesions, a melanocyte migration arrest is favoured rather than the hypothesis of a 'benign metastasis' from a cutaneous primitive site.

Targeting chemotherapy for intrahepatic periductal lymphatic invasion by mitomycin C adsorbed to activated charcoal in hepatic hilar bile duct cancer.

A new dosage form of anticancer agent, mitomycin C adsorbed to activated charcoal (MMC-AC), was evaluated in the rabbit model of hepatic hilar bile duct cancer. The model was produced by inoculation of VX2 cells into the wall of the hepatic hilar bile duct. Histologic examination revealed that the mode of spreading of VX2 cells in the model closely resembles that of human bile duct cancer. On the other hand, selective accumulation of MMC-AC into the lymphatic vessels around the intrahepatic bile duct was observed after its injection into the hepatic hilum in rabbits. To assess the anticancer e

Two cases demonstrate an association between Tropheryma whipplei and pulmonary marginal zone lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: Marginal zone lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphatic tissues (MZL of MALT) are a group of indolent B-cell neoplasms, which are thought to arise from chronic antigenic stimulation of B-cells either due to underlying chronic infection or autoimmune disease. Little is known about potential causative pathogens in pulmonary MZL (PMZL), although some data suggests a potential role of Achromobacter (A.) xylosoxidans. METHODS: An index case of chronic pulmonary colonisation with Tropheryma (T.) whipplei and subsequent development of PMZL was identified by T. whipplei specific PCR and me

Lymphatic differentiation in classic Kaposi's sarcoma: patterns of D2-40 immunoexpression in the course of tumor progression.

The recent development of lymphatic endothelium-specific immuno-indicators has given rise to research on the histogenesis of Kaposi sarcoma (KS), specifically focusing on its lymphatic root and differentiation. D2-40 is a new lymphatic marker that recognizes podoplanin and is easily applied to formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissues. This study examined D2-40 immunoexpression in 178 classical KS lesions using immunohistochemical methods. D2-40 immunoexpression was also examined in 63 non-KS soft tissue lesions to test the reliability of D2-40 monoclonal antibody in the pathological diag

Carcinoma of the prostate with soft tissue or non-regional lymphatic metastases at the time of diagnosis: a review of 47 cases.

The clinical course of 47 patients with carcinoma of the prostate who at the time of initial presentation had metastases to soft tissue or non-regional lymph nodes was retrospectively reviewed. The response rate to primary hormonal treatment (orchiectomy or oestrogens) and the duration of response were similar to those of 47 other patients presenting with skeletal metastases only. The survival of the patients in the study group was not statistically different from that of patients with skeletal metastases only. The results suggest that patients presenting initially with metastases to non-regio

[Chronic wound as a precancerosis (Ulcus marjolini--Marjolin's ulcer)--a case review].

Marjolin's ulcer is defined as a tumor arising from a chronic wound, scar or chronic inflammation. Commonly, it is histologically diagnosed as a squamous cell carcinoma or a basocellular carcinoma. Its management includes its excisioning including a sufficient circumferential rim and histological examination of the sentinel lymphnode. The authors present a case review of a 51-year-old male with a history of a sacral decubitus, treated for over 40 years. The patient was hospitalized to cover the defect with a skin flap. During the hospitalization, histological examinations of his inguinal lymph

Sphingosine kinase 1 counteracts chemosensitivity and immune evasion in diffuse large B cell lymphoma cells via the PI3K/AKT/PD-L1 axis.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a highly aggressive neoplasm of lymphatic system that represent 38-58 % of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Chemoresistance and immune escape constitute the major obstacles to the treatment of patients. Sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) is involved in multiple processes of cancer. Up to now, little research focuses on its function in DLBCL. In the current research, GEPIA and human Protein Atlas databases confirmed high expression of SphK1 in DLBCL tissues. Analogously, increased expression of SphK1 were determined in DLBCL tissues and cells. Intriguingly, knockdown of

[Diagnostic value of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in extrapulmonary tuberculosis].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the value of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (ET). METHODS: The imaging data from 88 cases of ET undergoing (18)F-FDG PET/CT examinations between August, 2005 and May, 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: All the 88 cases showed high (18)F-FDG uptake on PET imaging with a SUVmax ranging from 1.3 to 23.2. In 19 of the 88 cases, the extrapulmonary lesions were misdiagnosed as malignant neoplasms. Twenty-two patients were found to have phthisis. According to locations, the lesions were classified into 4 basic types, namely membranou

Soft tissue masses of the epitrochlear region.

The epitrochlear lymph nodes (ELN) are rarely examined clinically and are difficult to identify radiologically in healthy patients. They are, therefore, generally under appreciated as a source of significant pathology. Despite this, enlargement of an ELN is almost always secondary to a pathological process, the differential for which is relatively narrow. The following pictorial review illustrates the spectrum of infectious, inflammatory and malignant conditions affecting the ELN, some of which are quite specific to this location. We also emphasise the importance of distinguishing enlarged ELN
