Lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) represents a distinct type of mature B-cell lymphoma with a substantial subset of cases being associated with Waldenström macroglobulinaemia (WM), defined as primarily bone marrow involvement and the presence of an IgM monoclonal paraprotein. MYD88 L265P mutation, although not specific, is present in the vast majority (>90%) of LPL cases and sheds light on the potential pathogenesis of this disease. This review offers an overview of current knowledge on the pathogenesis, clinical presentations, histological features and immunophenotype of LPL and WM. In additio

Plasma cell neoplasm is characterized by a monoclonal neoplastic proliferation of plasma cells and solitary plasmocytoma of bone (SPB) is a localized form. It usually occurs in vertebrae and secondarily in long bones. Its presence in mandible is extremely rare event. A 48-year-old man consulted to our clinic with a chief complaint of pain in his mandible. Radiography revealed a destructive lesion in body and ramus. The initial pathologic evaluation revealed a high grade pleomorphic neoplasm. The diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemical markers. Overall, plasmacytoma with anaplastic featu

Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is an uncommon plasma cell neoplasm results from plasma cell proliferation and consists of monoclonal plasmacytic infiltration, without bone marrow involvement and any other systemic characteristics of multiple myeloma. EMP accounts for 3% of all plasma cell neoplasms and approximately 80% to 90% of EMP involve submucosa of the upper aerodigestive, while scrotal, dermis and retroperitoneal infiltration are very rare. There are no consensus guidelines for treatment, but EMP is highly radiosensitive, surgery may be considered for some sites, but 11 at 30% can pr

Solitary plasmacytoma of bone (SPB) is a localized form of plasma cell neoplasm where jaw involvement is rare. Distinguishing SPB from other plasma cell neoplasms is critical for treatment and survival. Here, a case of SPB of mandible in an elderly female is reported. Histopathological diagnosis of plasma cell neoplasm was confirmed immunohistochemically with MUM1 and CD138 positivity and multiple myeloma (MM) was ruled out on performing systemic workup. Prognosis of SPB worsens when it transforms into MM. A systematic review was undertaken with the objective to determine the factors affecting

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a term used to describe a range of lymphoproliferative disorders that occur after solid organ transplant. Although the clinical presentation is variable, primary cutaneous PTLD typically presents as isolated nodules that appear as dermal-based proliferations. We present a case of a 70-year-old woman with a history of a kidney transplant who presented with a 2-month history of an asymptomatic, erythematous plaque on the right shin, clinically suspected to be squamous cell carcinoma in situ. Histomorphology demonstrated a dermal proliferatio

Angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) is classified as a nodal T-cell lymphoma from T follicular helper(Tfh) cells. Dysfunctional Tfh cells can lead to abnormal B cell regulation and plasma cell differentiation in AITL. However, the coexistence of AITL with plasma cell tumors is exceedingly rare. Here, we report three patients diagnosed with AITL accompanied by monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM), and multiple myeloma (MM). The clinicopathologic findings, together with a review of previously reported cases, provide insight into the p

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy characterized by the clonal proliferation of plasma cells within the bone marrow, leading to significant end-organ damage. Recent therapeutic advancements, including immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs), proteasome inhibitors, autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT), and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, have significantly improved survival outcomes. However, with prolonged survival, there is an emerging concern regarding therapy-related secondary malignancies (SM), particularly therapy-related myeloid neoplasms (tMN) and secondary lym

Multiparameter flow cytometry is an effective tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of plasma cell neoplasms such as multiple myeloma. This review focuses on how flow cytometry can be used to identify and characterize plasma cells. It discusses the immunophenotype of normal plasma cells and how this can be used to distinguish them from neoplastic plasma cells. The prognostic impact of particular immunophenotypic aberrancies is reviewed. Finally, it describes approaches to post-treatment monitoring myeloma by flow cytometry, including measurable residual disease detection and its impact on disea

Solitary plasmacytoma and multiple myeloma are plasma cell dyscrasias that typically present as bone tumour(s) due to abnormal and unregulated proliferation of plasma cells in the skeletal marrow. Both can manifest as soft tissue lesions within the head and neck region, and they may pose a diagnostic challenge given their relative rarity. This review aims to highlight the key multimodality imaging features of plasma cell neoplasms with an emphasis on extraosseous/extramedullary presentations in the anatomically complex head and neck region, as well as the relevant anatomy of various head and n

Plasma cell neoplasms can present as a single lesion (solitary plasmacytoma) or as multiple lesions (multiple myeloma). Solitary plasmacytoma is a rare plasma cell neoplasm. There are 2 separate entities, dependent on the location of the lesion originating in either bone or extramedullary soft tissue. It is defined as a proliferation of monoclonal plasma cells without evidence of significant bone-marrow plasma-cell infiltration. We present a 71-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a solitary plasmacytoma of the bone located in the right third rib after surgical resection. A chest roentgenogra

Plasma cell disorders are clonal outgrowths of pre-malignant or malignant plasma cells, characterized by extensive chromosomal aberrations. Centrosome abnormalities are a major driver of chromosomal instability in cancer but their origin, incidence, and composition in primary tumor cells is poorly understood. Using cutting-edge, semi-automated high-throughput electron tomography, we characterized at nanoscale 1386 centrioles in CD138pos plasma cells from eight healthy donors and 21 patients with plasma cell disorders, and 722 centrioles from different control populations. BACKGROUND: Napsin A is commonly expressed in pulmonary adenocarcinomas and some renal cell carcinomas. However, napsin A expression in lymphoid neoplasms has never been reported.
METHODS: Glycoproteomic analyses of lymphoma-derived cell lines revealed napsin A expression in anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) cells. We thus investigated napsin A expression in lymphoid neoplasms. A variety of lymphomas (n=672) and histiocytic tumors (n=55) was immunostained for napsin A using patient tissues.
RESULTS: In reactive lymphoid tissues, only a few histiocytes were positive for napsin A. ALK-posi

PURPOSE: We report a 75-year-old woman with a history of multiple myeloma immunoglobulin D (IgD) variant, who presented with an epibulbar plasmacytoma masquerading as a subconjunctival hemorrhage.
METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and orbits with and without contrast was obtained and surgical biopsy of the subconjunctival lesion was performed; histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of plasmacytoma.
RESULTS: Subconjunctival biopsy revealed a plasma cell neoplasm infiltrate in the episcleral layer. The subconjunctival biopsy stained positive for CD138 and lambda-immunohistochemi

Evaluating concurrent bone marrow aspirate (BMA) and trephine biopsy (BMB) specimens demonstrates significant diagnostic complementarity, reducing false-negative rates in plasma cell dyscrasias and marrow infiltrations, and proving that combined evaluation remains essential for accurate laboratory staging across diverse hematological malignancies. This retrospective study at the South Egypt Institute for Oncology evaluated 430 patients who underwent simultaneous BMA and BMB between December 2023 and December 2025 for suspected or confirmed malignancies. Inadequate samples, including hemodilute

The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the proportion of lymphoid neoplasm subtypes in South Korea. A total of 8615 cases of lymphoid neoplasms diagnosed in 1997-2016 at Samsung Medical Center in South Korea were classified according to the 2008 World Health Organization system. The total number and proportion of lymphoid neoplasms were compared between these two decades, with data from nationwide studies, and with other countries. To evaluate changes in the proportion of subtypes, crude rate of each subtype per 100 lymphoma patients during each decade and age adjusted rate were

Coexistence of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) with other morphologically and phenotypically distinct lymphoid neoplasm although unusual, has been reported in literature. The most common lymphoid neoplasms associated with DLBCL are Hodgkin's lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma and marginal zone lymphoma. However, they have been reported predominantly in the sites other than the bone marrow. Rarely, DLBCL associated with paraproteinemia of IgM type, result of monoclonal plasma cell proliferation, has also been reported in literature. There is either an associated increase in the free light cha

A retrospective collection of 171 lymphoid neoplasms (123 dogs and 48 cats) was classified according to the Revised European-American Lymphoma (REAL) classification, adopted in 2002 by the World Health Organization (WHO), to evaluate the WHO system for categorization of canine and feline neoplasms. Microscopic examination was performed after standard hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemical labelling for B (CD79a) or T (CD3) cell phenotypes. B-cell lymphomas were prevalent in dogs and T-cell lymphomas in cats. B-Large cell lymphoma (B-LCL) frequently showed plasmacytoid differentiati
