Health-promoting lifestyle among nurses working at tertiary care public hospitals Karachi: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Nurses are pivotal in providing compassionate care to their clients. Though, nurses are aware of health-promoting behaviours, they still have a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity, dyslipidaemia, diabetes, and hypertension which make them more prone to non-communicable diseases. Healthy lifestyle is linked to a reduced risk of these diseases and premature mortality ultimately resulting in longer life expectancy and raised health-related standard of living. Nurses being a front-line care provider face significant challenges that may impact their own health and well-being, wi

Nurses' grief after patient loss: a cross-sectional study of coping strategies and emotional impact in a Nigerian tertiary hospital.

BACKGROUND: Nurses frequently develop close therapeutic relationships with patients and experience significant emotional distress when patients die. Despite extensive literature on caregiver burden in palliative care, there is limited data on how nurses in resource-constrained settings cope with grief and the downstream effects on their well-being and practice. This study aimed to examine grief coping strategies, emotional responses, and perceived mental health impacts among nurses following patient loss in a tertiary specialist hospital in Northern Nigeria. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sect

[Breast feeding following hospital discharge].

The pattern of nursing following discharge from the hospital was investigated in 491 patients during 1980. A mean total duration of nursing of 20.02 weeks and a mean complete duration of nursing of 11.3 weeks was found. Early nursing following delivery does not have as significant an influence on the intensity of nursing as the proportion of nursing during the post-partum stay in hospital. Mothers who nursed completely during their stay in hospital continued to nurse for a longer time (24.3 weeks) as women who added half formula during their stay in hospital (mean nursing time 10.8 weeks). Maternal Thyroid Hormone Deficiency During Gestation and Lactation Alters Metabolic and Thyroid Programming of the Offspring in the Adult Stage.

Environmental stimuli during critical developmental stages establish long-term physiological and structural patterns that "program" health during adult life. Little is known about how alterations in hormonal supply might have consequences in metabolic and thyroid programming. This work aims to prove that alterations in the supply of thyroid hormones during gestation and lactation have long-term consequences in the metabolic and thyroid programming of the offspring. Female Wistar rats were divided into euthyroid, hypothyroid, and hypothyroid with 20 μg/day of s.c. thyroxine (T4), replacement we

The Effects of Emergency Room Violence toward Nurse's Intention to Leave-Resilience as a Mediator.

(1) Background: Healthcare workplace violence has been a focused issue in the whole world. The rate of the occurrence is pretty high in every country. The emergency room is a high risk and high frequency place for violence to occur. Under the medical service demands from people, it is quite easy to bring about conflicts. This leads to serious physical and mental harm to nurses. When suffering from physical and mental injuries, resilience is a protective factor away from negative influence. It is rare to explore and study how the nurses' resilience ability, workplace violence and turnover inten

Toxic leadership behaviours of nurse managers and the co-occurrence of anxiety and depression in nurses: Propensity score matching.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the association between nurses' exposure to toxic leadership and the co-occurrence of anxiety and depression, applying both categorical and transdiagnostic analytical frameworks. METHODS: A cross-sectional design was employed among 2337 nurses from 20 tertiary hospitals in China. Toxic leadership was assessed using the Toxic Leadership Behaviours of Nurse Managers scale. Anxiety and depression symptoms were measured with the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. To minimize potential confounding, propensity score matching was

Sleep problems in the community elderly as predictors of death and nursing home placement.

In 1984-85, 1855 elderly residents of an urban community responded to a comprehensive baseline interview that included questions regarding an extensive set of sleep characteristics and problems. During the subsequent 3 1/2 years of follow-up, 16.7% of the respondents died and 3.5% were placed in nursing homes. The predictive significance of each sleep characteristic for mortality and for nursing home placement was determined separately for males and females, using Cox proportional hazards models. Selected demographic and psychosocial variables were also entered into the models. Age, problems w

Adamantiades-Behçet's disease: serum IL-8 is a more reliable marker for disease activity than C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate.

BACKGROUND: Radiology departments present unique challenges compared to other departments due to exposure to radiation and the specialized nature of the work. Nurses must not only manage typical nursing duties but also adhere to strict safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure. These additional responsibilities can significantly impact their work engagement and overall job satisfaction. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to identify the factors associated with work engagement among nurses working at prefectural designated cancer care hospitals in Japan. Identifying these factors may lead to im

The prison system presents multiple obstacles for delivering effective nursing care, including a restrictive environment, a lack of positive male role models, and histories of trauma. PURPOSE: This article reflects on my placement at a young offender's institution. It explores the woundedness of the young people, the staff, and the challenges of working in such a desolate space. It also considers how nursing must navigate the moral ambiguity of caring f

Problems, Causes, Impact, and Preventive Measures for Addressing Violence Faced by Nurses in Healthcare Settings in Thailand.

Workplace violence (WPV) is a major occupational hazard for nurses in Thailand, negatively affecting psychological well-being, professional confidence, and patient care. In this quantitative cross-sectional analytic study involving 415 nurses, 43.61% reported experiencing at least one incident of WPV during the previous 12 months. Verbal abuse (41.20%) and physical violence (13.25%) were the most frequently reported forms, with a higher prevalence observed in urban hospitals than in rural hospitals (53.66% vs. 33.81%). Higher WPV risk was associated with working in medical wards (adjusted inci

Knowledge of Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Attitudes, and Practices Towards Anti-HPV Vaccination Among Israeli Nurses.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a small, non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus, belonging to the family of Papillomaviridae. It is a highly common infectious agent, which causes one of the most widespread sexually transmitted infections (STIs), involving approximately 20% of sexually active female adolescents and up to 80% of female adults aged 50 years. There exist two major preventative strategies: namely, anti-HPV vaccination and cervical screening. Healthcare providers, including nurses, can play a crucial role in HPV immunization campaigns, counteracting vaccine hesitancy and doing advoc
