Plastic pollution is a pressing global issue, prompting the exploration of sustainable alternatives such as bioplastics (BPs). In agriculture, BPs have gained relevance as mulching films. This study investigated the effect of the presence in the soil of different concentrations (0-3%, w/w) of a corn starch-based bioplastic on basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). The results showed that increasing bioplastic concentration reduced shoot fresh biomass production. Biochemical analyses revealed changes in the shoot in soluble protein content, biomarkers of oxidative and osmotic stress (malondialdehyde and

Cadmium, as a toxic heavy metal abounds in our habitat, and its impact on the testes contribute to the global decrease in the male fertility rate. Several natural compounds have been used to manage Cd-induced infertility successfully. Polyphenol-rich extract of Ocimum gratissimum is one plant whose potency has been reported in various studies. Nevertheless, no report has explored PREOG impairment of reprotoxicity induced by cadmium in male animals. This study, therefore, is designed to evaluate the effect of PREOG against cadmium reprotoxicity in adult male Wistar rats. 66 male rats were rando

Liver diseases have now become a global canker due to increasing drug abuse and several viral infections. The current medicines on the market are woefully inadequate and limited in the application against these diseases. Fortunately, medicinal plants continue to serve as a potential source of drug discovery that could be explored to improve the situation. The present study, therefore, evaluated the hepatoprotective activities of the aqueous extract of various parts (leaves, flower and stem) of Ocimum americanum L on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)- and acetaminophen-induced toxicity in rats.
