AI for diagnosing malocclusions from 3D dental models.

Accurate diagnosis of dental malocclusions remains challenging due to interobserver variability among orthodontists. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the diagnostic reliability of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms in classifying malocclusion types using 3D dental models compared with expert orthodontist assessments. A convolutional neural network (CNN) was trained and tested on digital impressions, and its performance was statistically analyzed against expert diagnoses. Results demonstrated strong agreement between AI predictions and orthodontist evaluations with clinically relev

Orthognathic Surgery and Orthodontics: Inadequate Planning Leading to Complications or Unfavorable Results.

Complications in orthognathic surgery are commonly a result of inadequate preoperative planning and communication between the surgeon and orthodontist. Unfavorable outcomes can often be avoided when overall treatment goals along with a surgical and orthodontic plan are developed and agreed upon by the orthodontist, surgeon, and patient before the start of active tooth movement or any surgical procedures. Continuous evaluation of the patient's progress throughout treatment and subsequent communication between the surgeon and orthodontist are recommended to prevent frequent errors, such as inade

Automatic detection of orthodontically induced external root resorption based on deep convolutional neural networks using CBCT images.

Orthodontically-induced external root resorption (OIERR) is among the most common risks in orthodontic treatment. Traditional OIERR diagnosis is limited by subjective judgement as well as cumbersome manual measurement. The research aims to develop an intelligent detection model for OIERR based on deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images, thus providing auxiliary diagnosis support for orthodontists. Six pretrained CNN architectures were adopted and 1717 CBCT slices were used for training to construct OIERR detection models. The performance of

Orthodontic program design based on aesthetic.

Orthodontics is a discipline that is based on aesthetics. It coordinates the relationship among nose, lip, and chin through the movement of teeth and the adjustment of jaw relationship. Orthodontists need to fully analyze the patient's soft tissue profile before treatment. They also need to analyze the existing problems and those that may be solved or caused during orthodontics to guide the design of orthodontic treatment and effectively improve the clinical effect of orthodontics. This article reviews the aesthetic preconditions that guide the design of orthodontic treatment from the perspect
