METHODS: A cross-sectional study utilizing both subjective (Simple Physical Activity Questionnaire-SIMPAQ) and objective (accelerometers) measures to assess PA. Symptom severity was assessed using The Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D). Mood states were detected and assessed using the YMRS and HAM-D scales. Evaluation of drug interactions in outpatients taking antipsychotic medications.

INTRODUCTION: Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) of antipsychotic medications are clinically significant as they can result in toxicity or treatment failure. This study aims to assess the potential drug-drug and drug-tobacco interactions associated with antipsychotic medications in an outpatient setting. Predictors of antipsychotic DDIs and the impact of potential DDIs on patients' clinical outcomes were also evaluated in this study. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study was conducted on outpatients in King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between 25 October 2020, and 26 November 2020, wh

Adequacy of treatment in outpatients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are adequately treated with pharmacotherapy before referral to a specialized center for OCD. METHODS: We performed a retrospective chart review of patients with OCD who were seen for intake at an academic outpatient center in The Netherlands between 2016 and 2023. We collected data on age, gender, illness severity using the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale, duration of illness, comorbidity and past pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. Following the international treatment guidelines, we calculated percentages o

Gout Knowledge: A Survey of Australian Outpatients with Gout.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of gout has increased in the Western societies due to ageing and increasing BMI. Recently, lifestyle and dietary factors have been linked in epidemiological studies with an alteration of the risk of gout; however, there remains a lack of data on patient knowledge of these factors. The purpose of this survey-based study was to determine the knowledge of gout and its treatment both in the community and specialist care settings. METHODS: Participants were recruited from a hospital rheumatology outpatient department, consumer organization and a random sample of particip

The primary outcome measure was post-procedural pain. The secondary outcome measures were fissure healing and complications. METHODS: Prospectively preserved data of 67 patients who received BT injections for CAF were analyzed prospectively. Demographic data, duration of symptomatic improvement, fissure location and number, parity, post-pr

METHODS: Beside sociodemographic data, and driving habits, residual symptoms, and EPS were assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), and the Modified Simpson Angus Scale (MSAS). PANSS symptoms were analy

COVID-19's natural course among ambulatory monitored outpatients.

Research objective was to detail COVID-19's natural trajectory in relation to the Czech population's viral load. Our prospective detailed daily questionnaire-based telemonitoring study evaluated COVID-19's impact among 105 outpatients. In accordance with government quarantine requirements, outpatients were divided into a cohort with two negative tests at the end of the disease (40 patients) and a cohort with a new algorithm (65 patients) following a 14-day quarantine. Median follow-up differed significantly between the 2 groups (23 days vs. 16 days). Only 6% of patients were asymptomatic durin

Dietary glycine improves urine storage symptoms in urology outpatients.

OBJECTIVES: Spinal glycinergic mechanisms inhibit the micturition reflex, and administration of glycine inhibits bladder activity in rats. Therefore, we examined whether dietary glycine would improve storage symptoms in urological outpatients. METHODS: We enrolled 20 participants (16 men and four women) with an overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) ≥ 3. All participants took 3 g of glucose (placebo) twice a day for the first four weeks, then 3 g of glycine twice a day for the next four weeks. We evaluated blood pressure, international prostate symptom score (IPSS), nocturia quality of life

Sleep and psychiatric symptoms in young child psychiatric outpatients.

BACKGROUND: Sleep may underlie psychiatric symptoms in young children. However, not many studies have reported on sleep and its associations with symptoms in young child psychiatric patients. Furthermore, we evaluated how sleep and daytime somnolence differed in patients and their age- and gender-matched controls. METHOD: The sample consisted of 139 3- to 7-year-old child psychiatric outpatients and 139 age- and gender-matched controls from community.

Bruxism and oral parafunctional hyperactivity in social phobia outpatients.

Anxiety and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are considered aggravating factors for bruxism. We examined the influence of anxiety, depression and SSRI on bruxism in social phobia (SP). Twenty-three drug naïve, 17 SSRI-treated SP patients and 33 healthy controls underwent a psychiatric assessment and completed Leibowitz Social Anxiety Scale and Beck Depression Inventory. Oral parafunctional activity (PF) was evaluated by TM-dental examination and by a questionnaire. Drug- naïve and SSRI-treated SP patients did not differ on demographic and clinical measures. Awake bruxism, 'JAW P

Clinical predictors of sleep apnoea in heart failure outpatients.

BACKGROUND: Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is common in heart failure patients. Many of them still remain undiagnosed. The aim of this study was to detect clinical predictors of sleep apnoea which may help to identify patients with SDB at a heart failure clinic. METHODS: We performed an in-home sleep study on 115 consecutive patients from our heart failure clinic. Clinical characteristics, blood samples, daytime sleepiness and quality of life were registered. RESULTS: Among 115 patients, 52% had moderate to severe SDB. Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m² was the only independent predictor of

[Sportstherapy for outpatients with eating disorders: a pilot project].

Many patients with Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa (AN, BN) engage in sport and physical activity in an excessive and compulsive manner, mostly to influence weight and shape. Many of them experience guilt in case of not exercising. However, sport and physical exercise can also have a positive effect on mental illness by influencing mood, sense of self-esteem and body experience. Until now, only few programs for eating disorder patients exist which aim at changing physical activity behavior and use sport and exercise activities in a therapeutic way. We developed a sport-therapeutic program designe

History of falls in the past year, 22-item fall risk index, 13-point simple screening test for fall, and time interval of one-leg standing test were examined as markers of fall risk. RESULTS: On univariate analysis, older age, female sex, hypertension, osteoporosi

OBJECTIVE: The prevalence of ADHD in the general adult population has been estimated to be about 4.4%. However, few studies exist in which the prevalence of ADHD in psychiatric adult outpatient samples has been estimated. These studies suggest that the prevalence is higher than in the general population. The objective of this study is to estimate the prevalence of ADHD in a psychiatric nonpsychotic adult outpatient sample and to compare this data with the prevalence of a group of nonclinical participants.
