Sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) is a benign neoplasm derived from the Schneiderian membrane and the endoderm of the ciliated respiratory epithelium of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. SNIP is uncommon and typically found between the fourth and seventh decades of life, with men being more frequently affected. The medical significance of this benign neoplasm lies in its potential to cause local tissue destruction, tendency toward malignancy, and high recurrence rate. This study describes the histology of the nasosinusal mucosa and histological characteristics of SNIP, as well as its c

A five-year-old, entire female Arabian horse with a 6-month history of a non-painful nodule on the conjunctiva of the right eye was evaluated. Ophthalmological examination showed a firm, smooth and fleshy conjunctival mass that raised the suspicion of a conjunctival neoplasm. Histological evaluations showed that the mass was composed of an endophytic growth consisting of numerous long papillary projections of hyperplastic stratified squamous epithelium supported by thin fibrovascular stalks. Typical features of squamous cell carcinoma with disorganized cell growth and infiltration of surroundi

Inverted papilloma of the urinary tract is a rare benign lesion. A 59-year-old male who presented with the chief complaint of gross hematuria and acute urinary retention is described. Cystoscopy revealed a solitary, papillary tumor at the bladder neck. Transurethral resection was performed, and histological examination revealed a pathological diagnosis of inverted papilloma. Following resection, the patient was able to void without difficulty. This is an interesting case of acute urinary retention secondary to an inverted papilloma at the bladder neck causing intermittent outlet obstruction, a

UNLABELLED: Candida auris is the most common, globally detected nosocomial fungal pathogen with multi-drug resistance. The high prevalence of C. auris infections has raised concern about drug resistance and adverse effects, compounded by a lack of effective alternative drugs. Bioengineered nanomaterials play a significant role in combating nosocomial infections. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have emerged as an extensively used nanomaterial due to their prominent antimicrobial properties. One of the most promising approaches is to incorporate herbal extracts that contain a range of phytoconstitu

Introduction Inverted papilloma is a rare benign tumor of the nasal fossa, which usually originates from its lateral wall. Only 5% of cases demonstrate exclusive sinus involvement. Primary sphenoid sinus involvement is even rarer. Although considered a benign lesion, the tumor has a potentially invasive nature and has also been found to have an associated malignancy rate of 7 to 15%. Objectives To report a case of inverted nasal papilloma originating in a rare location: the sphenoid sinus. Resumed Report a 56-year-old woman, presented to our outpatient clinic complaining of frontal headache, o

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Inverted papilloma (IP) is a proliferative lesion of the epithelium lining the sinonasal tract, characterized by marked propensity for recurrence and association with carcinoma. To determine a putative role of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and MMP-9 in the establishment of IP, their expression was studied in IP.
METHODS: Archived surgical specimens from 15 IPs were studied using immunohistochemistry and compared to 12 nasal polyps (NP), a model of chronic respiratory mucosal inflammation, and to 6 control nasal mucosa (CM) samples obtained from snorers during turbin

To evaluate the role of endoscopic versus external surgery in the treatment of inverted papillomas, the clinical courses of 35 patients over a period of 10 years were reviewed. 13 patients were treated endoscopically whereas 15 were treated with an external approach. 7 patients with a post operative follow up of less than 12 months were excluded from the study. Recurrences occurred in 4 patients, 2 patients had been treated by endoscopic surgery and 2 by medial maxillectomy by lateral rhinotomy. 3 patients were diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. Salvage surgery was performed by an externa

A case is reported of inverted papilloma of the renal pelvis in a patient with previous transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The renal pelvic lesion was diagnosed and treated with a flexible ureteropyeloscope. Although nephroureterectomy was avoided, the patient must be carefully followed endoscopically and radiographically for recurrence of lesions throughout the urinary tract. This case represents the first report of the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of an inverted papilloma of the renal pelvis. It demonstrates the vast potential for endoscopic diagnosis, treatment, and surveilla

BACKGROUND: Histological analysis suggests that inverted papilloma (IP) tumorigenesis may occur through a stepwise series of discrete events. The association between human papilloma virus (HPV) and IP has been described at varying incidences. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of the HPV subtypes in a large series of IP specimens classified by histological grade.
METHODS: Fifty-seven paraffin-embedded specimens of Korean population were available for study. Each specimen was graded according to a four-stage histological grading system (stages I and II, benign IP; stage I

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal inverted papilloma (SNIP) is a benign epithelial tumor with distinctive histopathological features. However, the role of inflammation in SNIP remains poorly characterized.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to compare the histopathological patterns and inflammatory characteristics of SNIP with those of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNPs) or normal ethmoid sinus mucosa.
METHODS: Fifty-eight tissue biopsies were prospectively collected from 38 patients with SNIPs, 12 CRSwNPs, and 8 normal ethmoid sinus mucosae. SNIP was histopathologically divided into four grade

We report the case of a 68-year-old woman who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT for squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC Ag) elevation in the follow-up of a uterine cervical cancer. The examination showed an FDG-avid mass of the left nasal cavity with left maxillary sinusitis and no other site of abnormal FDG uptake. Surgical resection of the nasal polyp was performed, and pathological examination of the specimen revealed an inverted sinonasal papilloma. SCC Ag returned to normal after surgery. Inverted sinonasal papilloma is a rare cause of SCC Ag elevation, which can be depicted by 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Sinonasal inverted schneiderian papilloma (ISP) is a rare tumour, which almost exclusively arises from the mucosa lining, the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses. The tumour in its early stages presents as an asymptomatic mass, which may be discovered during routine examination. Large lesions usually measure a few millimetres to centimetres in size and show symptoms such as nasal blockade, recurrent sinusitis, postnasal drip, anosmia, epistaxis, facial pain and headache. Lesion presenting as a large oral mass is extremely rare and may cause diagnostic dilemma, resulting in misdiagnosis. Thi

PROBLEM: The concomitant appearance of an inverted papilloma and a fungus ball in unilateral maxillary sinus is rare. These disease entities may be difficult to distinguish before surgery.
METHODOLOGY: A male patient presented with the characteristic symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis. A preoperative sinus computed tomography scan revealed unilateral sinus opacification, hyperdense calcified spots, and bony erosion of the medial maxillary sinus wall.
RESULTS: During the operation, a cheesy, clay-like fungus ball was removed. In addition, a papillary appearance of the sinus mucosa led to the

Inverted papilloma is generally considered a benign unilateral sinonasal tumor. Its synchronous bilateral multicentric occurrence is extremely rare. A 22-year-old male patient presented with stage III inverted papilloma involving both ethmoid sinuses, both frontal sinuses, and cribriform area. The patient also had a large osteoma emanating from the basal part of the frontal sinus septum, which completely obstructed both nasofrontal recesses, leaving no communication between the sinuses and the nasal cavity. The frontal sinus septum was intact, so there was no communication between the 2 sides
