Cutaneous adnexal neoplasms are complex lesions, including benign and malignant neoplasms in addition to malformations and hamartomas. They show one or several features of differentiation along follicular, sebaceous, apocrine, and eccrine lines. Rarely, cutaneous adnexal neoplasms or their mimics may arise outside the skin. In some organs, such as the parotid gland, a number of tumors comprise well-established entities, whereas in the majority of cases an extracutaneous occurrence of cutaneous-type adnexal lesions is a rare and often diagnostically challenging finding. This review discusses va

Spontaneous intra-parotid pseudoaneurysm of the external carotid artery are very rare, only one case has been reported in the literature until 2019. The authors describe the second rare case of a spontaneous pseudoaneurysm of the external carotid artery which mimicked a parotid neoplasm in a young patient with pulsatile and non-fixed mass. The clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of this condition are discussed. We report a new etiology of this rare entity that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of an atypical parotid mass.

Preoperative positron emission tomography (PET) scanning of three patients with lung cancer revealed increased unilateral focal activity in a parotid gland. Further investigation with ultrasound and core biopsy confirmed benign parotid neoplasm in all three cases. The phenomenon of imaging-related incidentaloma is increasingly recognized and further investigation of these lesions remains controversial. This article discusses PET incidentaloma in the parotid, why tracer uptake may occur and how these lesions may be managed with changes in patient management that ensue.

Epithelialmyoepithelial carcinoma (EMEC) is a rare low-grade malignant salivary gland neoplasm that most commonly occurs in the parotid gland but can also arise in minor salivary glands. Here, we present a case of EMEC in a 60-year-old male patient with a huge swelling in the left parotid gland region. Clinically and radiologically, it simulated a benign salivary gland neoplasm. However, fine-needle aspiration cytology and histologic examination revealed atypical myoepithelial cells in solid sheets or nests suggestive of epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma. Diagnosis was further confirmed by po

Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a self-limiting mesenchymal neoplasm that typically occurs in the subcutaneous tissue of the extremities, trunk, and head and neck region; involvement of the parotid gland is very rare. The cytological features of NF can closely mimic those seen in salivary gland neoplasms, particularly pleomorphic adenoma (PA), potentially leading to misdiagnosis. We present the case of a 19-year-old female with a parotid gland mass, initially diagnosed as a salivary gland neoplasm on fine needle aspiration (FNA), but ultimately confirmed to be NF following thorough examination of th

BACKGROUND: Warthin tumor is the second most common benign salivary gland neoplasm after pleomorphic adenoma. Warthin tumors occur almost exclusively in the parotid gland and periparotid lymph nodes, extraparotid localization is rare.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We describe a case of a patient presenting with a synchronous unilateral parotid gland and nasopharyngeal Warthin tumor.
CONCLUSION: We propose that, although this occurrence of a synchronous parotid gland and nasopharyngeal Warthin tumor may be coincidental, it is more likely to be an effect of a systemic factor.

Facial nerve palsy is usually associated with a malignant parotid neoplasm; it is highly unusual for it to result from a benign situation, such as inflammation or infection of the parotid gland. Surgery along with prompt medical treatment is the mainstay, and in the majority of the patients, nerve paralysis recovers in the follow-up period. We report a case of a 50-year-old non-diabetic non-hypertensive female who presented with odynophagia, left-sided parotid swelling, and left facial nerve palsy. The diagnosis of facial nerve palsy due to a parotid abscess extending to the parapharyngeal spa

A case is reported in which a unilateral parotid gland cystadenolymphoma was combined with actinomycosis. A 48-year-old woman presented with a mass in the left parotid region and paresis of the lower left palpebra. The computed tomography, echography, and parotid radiographic findings did not exclude a neoplasm of the left parotid gland. The ramus of the mandible was involved in the process. Intraoperative freezing histology, total parotidectomy, and partial mandibulectomy were performed, with sacrifice of the facial nerve followed by nerve reconstruction. The final histological evaluation was

The objective of this study is to describe the pattern of salivary gland neoplasms as experienced in Enugu-Nigeria. Patients are selected from those attending the Otorhinolaryngology units of the author at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital and Balsam Clinics both in Enugu from January 1992 to December 1997, with tumours of salivary gland origin. Non-neoplastic lesions were excluded. There were forty-one (41) patients with salivary gland neoplastic growths in the following sites: parotids (25) submandibular gland (SMG) (10) and minor (6). There were 15 males, 26 females; age range 10-

A 45 year old man presented with a swelling on the right side of his face of 12 months duration. Subsequent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans revealed he did in fact have two discrete tumours of his right parotid gland. Following a superficial parotidectomy and dissection of the deep lobe, histopathology revealed both tumours to be pleomorphic adenomas. We discuss the clinicopathological findings and implications in contemporary surgical management of parotid neoplasms.

Hybrid carcinomas are rare neoplasms which are characterized by two different types of tumors localized in a single topographic region of the lesion. Parotid gland is the most common involvement site of hybrid carcinomas among salivary glands. The aggressiveness of the hybrid tumor depends on its high-grade component. In this article, we present a 71-year-old male case with the left parotid gland hybrid carcinoma consisting of salivary duct carcinoma and myoepithelial carcinoma.

Oncocytic neoplasms result from metabolically altered cells that accumulate abundant mitochondria within their cytoplasm by oncocytic metaplasia. In this report, the CT findings are described and correlated with the histopathologic features of a case of oncocytoma involving the parotid gland that arose in a background of nodular oncocytic hyperplasia. When imaging demonstrates multiple small nodules in the parotid gland with a large, solid, or cystic mass, the diagnosis of oncocytic neoplasia should be considered.

PROBLEM: Parotid gland Mycobacterial infection is a rare disease that causes parotid swelling without disease-specific manifestations.
CASE REPORT: We present a case of intraparotid lymph node tuberculosis that mimicked a tumour. Computed tomography of the head and neck indicated a left parotid enlargement involving two intraparotid lymph nodes. The cervical lymph nodes of the ipsilateral posterior triangle and the submandibular and jugulodigastric areas were also enlarged. Contrast enhancement indicated homogenous tissue with no necrotic areas. A biopsy revealed a caseating granuloma most li

Sialolipoma is a rare benign neoplasm and was recently described as a histological variant of intraoral lipoma. In the current report, the case of a of a 65-year-old female with a slow-growing mass in the right parotid gland with recurrence is presented. The initial clinical diagnosis was a benign salivary gland tumor. The tumor was situated between the right parotid gland and the right masseter muscle; therefore, a superficial parotidectomy was performed. Histopathology revealed that the tumor was a sialolipoma of the parotid gland. During the three-month follow-up, a recurrent right parotid

Metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) may involve any organ, including the parotid salivary gland. While the definition of salivary gland neoplasms with clear cell transformation can be concluded by the synchronous presence of areas showing typical morphology, sometimes the definition of a metastatic RCC in the parotid is difficult and the application of immunohistochemistry may support the clinical and radiographic observations in the final diagnosis. The aim of this paper was to describe the heterogeneous immunohistochemical features and, furthermore, to characterize the pattern of expres

Most neoplasms arising in the parotid gland are benign. Patients with cancer of the parotid gland usually present with normal facial nerve function. In these patients, findings at the time of surgery will guide the management of the facial nerve, with most surgeons preserving the nerve unless it is adherent to, or imbedded in, a malignant tumor. In cases where the margins of resection are close to the facial nerve, adjuvant radiotherapy administered postoperatively has significantly improved local control of disease. The minority of patients with parotid cancer who present with facial nerve pa

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Lipomatous neoplasms of the parotid gland represent an exceptionally rare and often underdiagnosed category of tumors, accounting for an incidence ranging from 0.6 % to 4.4 % of all neoplasms detected within the parotid gland. Sialolipoma is defined as an uncommon variant of lipoma, characterized by a well-defined proliferation of mature adipocytes with secondary entrapment of salivary gland elements, including serous acini, ducts, and myoepithelial cells.
CASE PRESENTATION: The current case pertains to a 17-year-old female who presented with a one-year history of

Brucellosis is a zoonotic systemic infectious disease, and multiorgan involvement is commonly seen, but involvement of the neck is a rare presentation of brucellosis. Granulomatous infections of the parotid gland are extremely rare. Warthin tumor is a well-known benign neoplasm of the salivary glands. In this report, we describe a Warthin tumor associated with Brucella melitensis in the same parotid gland.

BACKGROUND: Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of the parotid gland. It is a benign tumor composed of epithelial and myoepithelial cells arranged in various morphological patterns. The most common reasons contributing to a recurrent disease are obvious or underestimated tumor spillage, incomplete excision, and violation of the pseudocapsule of the tumor.
CASE REPORT: This article presents a case of gross multinodular recurrence of a parotid gland pleomorphic adenoma in a 38-year-old female patient. Upon clinical examination of the homolateral neck, multiple, painless, well-define
