Quality of life and psychological status of patients with pemphigus vulgaris using Dermatology Life Quality Index and General Health Questionnaires.

Pemphigus vulgaris with painful chronic blisters and/or erosions on skin and mucosa can impair quality of life (QOL). Therapeutic modalities in the long run can have additional negative impact. There are few studies that have focused on QOL of such patients except in treated cases. The aim of this study was to describe the effect of the disease per se on QOL before receiving treatment and evaluation of psychological status of the patients and its effect on their QOL. A total of 61 patients with newly diagnosed non-treated pemphigus vulgaris participated in the study. The Persian version of the

A multidimensional health assessment questionnaire (MDHAQ) for all patients with rheumatic diseases to complete at all visits in standard clinical care.

Rheumatic diseases differ from many chronic diseases in that no single measure provides a gold standard for diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and documentation of changes over long periods. Therefore, pooled indices of several measures have been developed, such as the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Core Data Set and disease activity score (DAS) for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI), Bath ankylosing spondylitis disease activity index (BASDAI), and others. Quantitative clinical rheumatology measures and indices are used primarily in c

Health status of heart transplant recipients versus patients awaiting heart transplantation: a preliminary evaluation of the SF-36 questionnaire.

Measures of the effects of health care on patients' lives are being requested to evaluate heart transplantation programs. A relatively short, 36-item, questionnaire (SF-36) designed to measure health status is being evaluated as an outcome measure for a variety of conditions. The SF-36 was sent to all adults awaiting heart transplantation (n = 48) and heart transplant recipients (n = 177) at the University of Minnesota as a pilot study of the SF-36 applied to heart transplantation. Response rates were 88% and 81%, respectively. Heart transplant recipients had significantly (p < 0.0001) better

A consecutive 2-year increase in the modified health assessment questionnaire score is associated with subsequent fractures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVES: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a well-recognised risk factor for fractures. However, short-term fracture risk factors remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate factors useful for short-term fracture prevention. METHODS: Patients were enrolled in the National Database of Rheumatic Diseases in Japan (2002-2020) were analysed. Modifiable risk factors included changes in disease activity, modified health assessment questionnaire (mHAQ) scores and oral glucocorticoid usage. RESULTS: Of the 37,466 patients with RA enrolled, 1655 experienced a first fracture. Sex, age, disease duratio

BACKGROUND: Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an ultra-rare, disabling genetic disorder condition that lacks real-world evidence on disease burden. This study aims to investigate the basic characteristics, diagnostic status, prognosis, economic burden and quality of life of FOP patients in China through self-reported data . METHODS: An online survey was conducted through the "China Cloud Platform for Rare Diseases" among patients recruited from the FOP patient organization in March 2023. Health-related quality of life as measured with the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire in patients with recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) has a poor therapeutic outcome and a severe impact on women and their partners, both physically and psychologically. Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is significantly affected in patients with RVVC; however, little is known about HRQOL in patients with this disease. In this study, we aim to identify the clinical and mycological characteristics of women with RVVC and the effects of RVVC on women's HRQOL. METHODS: We designed this study as a comparative cross-sectional study. The Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) was used to measure HRQ

Using the Patient Health Questionnaire to estimate prevalence and gender differences of somatic symptoms and psychological co-morbidity in a secondary inpatient population with abdominal pain.

BACKGROUND: Somatic disorders and somatic symptoms are common in primary care populations; however, little is known about the prevalence in surgical populations. Identification of inpatients with high somatic symptom burden and psychological co-morbidity could improve access to effective psychological therapies. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis (n = 465) from a prospective longitudinal cohort study of consecutive adult admissions with non-traumatic abdominal pain, at a tertiary hospital in New South Wales, Australia. We estimated somatic symptom prevalence with the Patient Health Questionnai

Factorial structure of the patient health questionnaire-9, generalized anxiety disorder-7 and berger HIV stigma scale-short form among adolescents living with HIV in Ghana.

BACKGROUND: Mental health issues and stigma experiences significantly affect adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV). While the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Berger HIV Stigma Scale-Short Form (HSS-SF) are widely used screening tools for mental health and stigma, their factorial validity among ALHIV in resource-limited settings such as Ghana remains understudied. Psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) in a large female sample of adults with and without eating disorders.

BACKGROUND: Internationally, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) is commonly used to assess the frequency and severity of depressive symptoms. However, psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the PHQ-9 have only been assessed in adolescents. We present normative data for women and an evaluation of the psychometric properties (internal consistency, convergent validity, and factor structure) of the Norwegian PHQ-9 among women with and without eating disorders (ED). METHODS: In this case-control study, a total of 793 females aged 18-78 years (mean 30.39; SD 9.83) completed an

Health-related quality of life in patients with basal cell naevus syndrome and high-frequency basal cell carcinoma: a questionnaire study.

BACKGROUND: Multiple basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) can result from a genetic disease, such as basal cell naevus syndrome (BCNS) or develop without a genetic predisposition, known as high-frequency BCC (HF-BCC). Multiple BCCs require frequent interventions, which may impact quality of life (QoL). Data on QoL in these patients and the influence of number of BCCs on QoL remain scarce. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate QoL in patients with BCNS and HF-BCC and the impact of number of BCCs on QoL. METHODS: Patients with BCNS were recruited through the Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+), the online

Online Health Information Seeking Before and After Oncology Consultations and its Impact on Patients' Anxiety and Uncertainty-A Longitudinal Questionnaire Study.

INTRODUCTION: Patients with cancer increasingly engage in online health information seeking (OHIS), yet the impact thereof on their anxiety and uncertainty remains unclear. This study aimed to: (1) examine how, when, and why patients engage in OHIS before and after oncological consultations; (2) identify patient characteristics (sociodemographic, medical, psychological) associated with OHIS; and (3) explore the relationship between OHIS, state anxiety, and uncertainty. METHODS: Patients with various cancer diagnoses and at various phases-of-care completed three self-report questionnaires: bef
