A New Tool to Assess the Person-Centeredness of Research Measures: The Person-Centered Measure Evaluation Tool (PC-MET).

BackgroundNo tool exists to assess whether research measures themselves are consistent with principles of person-centeredness.ObjectiveThis project developed a tool to assess the extent of person-centeredness employed in the development, content, and application of research measure development in the context of measures relevant to persons living with dementia and/or their caregivers.MethodsLiterature review and expert input informed the development of the tool; pilot testing assessed interrater reliability and rater acceptability.ResultsThe tool includes six criteria (each with three subcateg

Ability to assess the severity of personality psychopathology based on the Structured Interview of Personality Organization (STIPO) in master's students of "Addictology".

BACKGROUND: With the development of multidisciplinary addictology teams, the ability of an addictologist to reliably assess personality psychopathology can be considered an important prerequisite that significantly enters the process of treatment planning. AIMS: Verification of the reliability and validity of the assessment of personality psychopathology in master's students of Addictology (addiction science) based on the Structured Interview of Personality Organization (STIPO) scoring course. METHODS: 31 Master's students of Addictology independently evaluated 7 STIPO protocols based on rec

The relationship between overall defensive functioning and the Personality Assessment Inventory borderline and treatment outcome scales.

Mature defense mechanisms support patients' engagement in psychotherapy. The Overall Defensive Functioning (ODF) scale of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV) Defensive Functioning Scale (DFS) is a measure of the maturity of patients' defenses. Immature defenses (e.g., splitting) and poor emotion regulation are hallmarks of borderline personality organization, and both can interfere with positive treatment engagement. We predicted that ODF would significantly and negatively correlate with the Personality Assessment Inventory Borderline (PAI-BOR) sc

Aggression in prison populations by gender and security Level: An analysis using the personality assessment Inventory.

Aggressive behaviors of varying severity and lethality are frequently reported in prison populations. However, the lack of comprehensive studies including both male and female samples limits current understanding of gender-based similarities and differences in psychological, psychopathological, and criminogenic variables. This study aimed to explore aggression-related traits -specifically the Aggression (AGG) scale and its subscales: Aggressive Attitude (AGG-A), Verbal Aggression (AGG-V), and Physical Aggression (AGG-P)-across gender and security levels within Ecuadorian prisons, using the Spa

Content Validation of the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality-Basic Version (CAPP-Basic) Using Prototypical Analysis.

The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality (CAPP) is a lexically based conceptual model of psychopathy. Despite widespread use in research settings, the Lexical Rating Scale for the CAPP (CAPP-LRS) requires an advanced reading level for completion. The present study is the first to evaluate the content validity of the CAPP-Basic, a lexically simplified version of the CAPP-LRS designed for use with individuals possessing lower verbal skills. Symptoms were rated by mental health professionals (N = 121). Findings were largely in line with results of previous studies, indicating good

Evaluating the Test Validity of the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality Symptom Rating Sale (CAPP SRS).

The Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality Symptom Rating Scale (CAPP SRS) is a relatively new measure of psychopathic personality disorder (PPD) based on the CAPP concept map of psychopathy. To investigate the CAPP SRS, we identified the most plausible formal test structure for the test using the framework proposed by Slaney and Maraun, identified an appropriate quantitative characterization of that test structure, and then statistically evaluated it based on analysis of CAPP SRS data collected from a multisite sample of 314 adult male correctional offenders and secure hospital

Evaluation of potential kidney donors with the personality assessment inventory: normative data for a unique population.

Many transplant centers require personality assessment and/or psychiatric clearance prior to allowing an individual to donate a kidney. This is a unique cohort for personality assessment, and there is no normative information available for this population on standardized self-report measures such as the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). We evaluated a prospective sample of 434 kidney donor candidates with development of normative T-scores relevant to this specific comparison group. Compared to the original normative group from the PAI manual, potential kidney donors are 5-7 T-score point

Clinical challenges in the assessment and management of suicidal behaviour in patients with bordeline personality disorder.

Self-injurious and suicidal behaviours are highly prevalent in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and the risk of completed suicide is high. Borderline patients often present with heterogeneous clinical pictures and widespread comorbidity complicating clinical assessments and management. This calls for increased efforts in systematic evaluation and monitoring of self-harming and suicidal behaviours; these behaviours should be addressed actively as high priority treatment targets. Early drop-out is common for BPD patients in treatment but is possible to counteract by fostering

Validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory Aggression scales and Violence Potential index in veterans with PTSD.

In this study, we examined the validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; Morey, 1991) Aggression (AGG) scales and Violence Potential index (VPI) in 399 male combat veterans presenting for formal evaluation of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The AGG scales exhibited convergence with other measures of hostility and violence and demonstrated discriminant validity with alternative constructs. When we examined reports of interpersonal violence in the past year, the AGG composite scale displayed substantial incremental validity over the effects of PTSD severity, demographics, a si

[The assessment of selected personality traits, coping and melatonin nocturnal secretion in patients with functional dyspepsia].

AIM: The main aim of the research was a characteristic of selected personality traits and coping as well as estimation of a level of melatonin in serum in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). METHODS: 36 patients with FD (14 men and 24 women) at age 19-43 (mean: 31.6) were examined. The control group consisted of 30 healthy persons at age 21-23 (mean: 37.2). CO-16 and CISS questionnaires were used to diagnose selected traits of personality and coping styles. Furthermore, melatonin concentration in serum was examined at 10 p.m., 2 a.m. and at 6 a.m. with the immunoenzymatic method (ELISA).

Case illustration of a boy with nonverbal learning disorder and Asperger's features: neuropsychological and personality assessment.

I present a case study of a latency-age boy referred for assessment of a nonverbal learning disability/disorder (NLD) who also had features of Asperger's syndrome (AS). I review NLD terminology, presumed brain-behavior relationship, neuropsychological profile, and diagnosis/classification issues. I discuss the challenge of differentiating NLD from AS in relation to the client's pattern of visual-spatial, communication, social-emotional, and behavioral NLD correlates. I integrate neuropsychological and personality assessment data with interviews, observations, prior testing, and input from teac

Convergence of the dimensional assessment of personality pathology (DAPP-BQ) and the five-factor personality inventory for the international classification of diseases 11th edition (FFiCD) in the context of the five-factor model and personality disorders.

The current manuscript presents the convergence of the Dimensional Assessment of Personality Pathology (DAPP-BQ), using its short form the DAPP-90, and the Five-Factor Personality Inventory for International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), the FFiCD, in the context of the five-factor personality model and the categorical approach of personality disorders (PDs). The current manuscript compares the predictive validity of both the FFiCD and the DAPP-90 regarding personality disorder scales and clusters. Results demonstrate a very high and meaningful convergence between the DAPP-90 and the FF

Deriving the Transdiagnostic Scales From the Personality Assessment Inventory and SPECTRA: Indices of Psychopathology: A Demonstration.

Transdiagnostic models of psychopathology address many of the shortcomings common to categorical diagnostic systems. These empirically derived models conceptualize psychopathology as a few broad interrelated and hierarchically arranged dimensions, with an overarching general psychopathology dimension, the p-factor, at the apex. While transdiagnostic models are gaining prominence in mental health research, the lack of available tools has limited their clinical translation. The present study explored the potential of creating transdiagnostic scales from the joint factor structure of the Personal

Emotion dysregulation and resting-state autonomic function in adolescent borderline personality disorder-A multimodal assessment approach.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by persistent emotion dysregulation (ED), and ED is one of the core features of BPD. In recent years, research aimed to identify distinct patterns of ED characteristic of patients with BPD. These efforts comprised translational approaches, including psychophysiological measures. Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction, indexed by reduced resting-state heart rate variability (HRV), is suggested to be a psychophysiological marker of ED. Reduced HRV is seen in patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders, including adolescents with dep

An Online Assessment of Personality, Psychological, and Sexuality Trait Variables Associated with Self-Reported Hypersexual Behavior.

"Hypersexual" behavior represents a perceived inability to control one's sexual behavior. To investigate hypersexual behavior, an international sample of 510 self-identified heterosexual, bisexual, and homosexual men and women completed an anonymous online self-report questionnaire battery. In addition to age and sex (male), hypersexual behavior was related to higher scores on measures of sexual excitation, sexual inhibition due to the threat of performance failure, trait impulsivity, and both depressed mood and anxiety. In contrast, hypersexual behavior was related to lower scores on sexual i

Personality Assessment Screener, Childhood Abuse, and Adult Partner Violence in African American Women Using Primary Care.

This study assessed the relationship between psychopathology with the Personality Assessment Screener (PAS) and childhood physical and sexual abuse and adult physical and sexual partner violence in a primary care sample of 98 urban-dwelling African American women. Patients completed the PAS, the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, and the Conflict Tactics Scale. The PAS total score significantly correlated with all measures of childhood and adult abuse. Stepwise regression analyses revealed that PAS element scores of Suicidal Thinking and Hostile Control significantly predicted a history of childh

Journeys through the valley of death: multimethod psychological assessment and personality transformation in long-term psychotherapy.

The Psychodynamic Diagnostic Manual (PDM Task Force, 2006) is based on the assumption that an in-depth understanding of clients' underlying emotional, personality, and interpersonal patterns will facilitate their treatment. In this article I show how such an understanding can be achieved through multimethod psychological assessment, and how useful such information can be in long-term psychotherapy with high-achieving, successful clients who struggle with forming and maintaining intimate relationships. Such treatments are extremely difficult, because when these clients attach to their psychothe
