Evaluating the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) over-reporting scales in a military neuropsychology clinic.

Introduction: This study examines the utility of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) validity scales to detect invalid responding within a sample of active duty United States Army soldiers referred for neuropsychological evaluations.Method: This study examines the relationship between performance validity testing and performance on the MMPI-2-RF over-reporting scales. Specifically, mean differences between those who passed (n = 152; 75.6%) or failed (n = 49; 24.4%) performance validity testing were compared. Receiver operator characteristic analyzes

Evaluating chronic suicide risk with the Personality Assessment Inventory: Development and initial validation of the Chronic Suicide Risk Index (S_Chron).

The current study sought to develop and validate a new measure of chronic suicide risk (the S_Chron) from the Personality Assessment Inventory in a mixed sample of psychiatric inpatients and outpatients. In an initial development sample (N=397), hierarchical logistic regression identified six PAI variables uniquely associated with multiple versus single/no prior suicide attempts after controlling for sample demographics: Negative Impression Management, Situational Stress, Mania - Grandiosity, Borderline - Negative Relationships, Borderline - Self-Harm, and Antisocial Behaviors. These indicator

Extending the validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory's (PAI) Level of Care Index (LOCI) in multiple psychiatric settings.

The purpose of this study was to extend the validity and clinical application of the Level of Care Index (LOCI) from the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) in 2 independent psychiatric samples. In Study 1 (N = 201), the LOCI effectively differentiated level of care (inpatients from outpatients), and was also meaningfully associated with risk factors for psychiatric admission (e.g., suicidal ideation, self-harming behavior, previous psychiatric admission, etc.), even after controlling for other demographic variables (range of Cohen's ds = 0.57-1.00). Likewise, the LOCI also incremented othe

Influence of Moyamoya disease on psychopathological abnormality in young males in Korea: analysis of multiphasic personal inventory test.

We analyzed the results of a multiphasic personal inventory test to confirm whether Moyamoya disease (MMD) affects the psychopathology in a group of young male Koreans. The authors manually reviewed the results of the Korean military multiphasic personal inventory (KMPI) for the examination of conscripts in Korea from July 2006 to May 2010. The normal volunteers group (N = 200) was composed of those males who do not have any brain disease or brain trauma. The MMD group (N = 37) was composed of those with MMD. There were more abnormal results in the MMD group (32.4 %) than in the normal volunte

Multivariate Base Rates of Standard- and Skyline-Cutoff Elevations on the Personality Assessment Inventory: Do They Distinguish Simulated from Genuine PTSD?

Multivariate base rates (MBR) of elevations are an emerging psychometric paradigm for enhanced interpretation of multiscale self-report data. The aims of this study were to calculate and compare MBR of scale/subscale elevations on the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) and determine the ability of MBR to differentiate between mood disorders (n = 524, k = 3), military-based posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD; n = 252, k = 2), and coached PTSD-simulator (n = 160, k = 1) groups. Overall, having at least one standard (T ≥ 70) and skyline elevation on clinical scales and clinical subscales was

The empirically derived Violence and Aggression Risk Index from the Personality Assessment Inventory: Development, validation, and application in general psychiatric settings.

The current study developed a new index of violence risk from scales within the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). Clinical patients from inpatient and outpatient settings completed the PAI along with reports of violence history and arrest record. A forward-selection hierarchical logistic regression was employed (N = 388) to identify the PAI scales (AGG-P, AGG-A, NON, PAR-H, and ANT-A) that could effectively distinguish patients with and without a history of violence. These indicators were then aggregated into a single index, labeled the Violence and Aggression Risk Index (VARI). The VARI

[The Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD): Reliability and Validity of the German Version in a Clinical and Non-Clinical Sample].

The 11th version of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11) marks a paradigm shift in the diagnosis of personality disorders: In the near future, their classification will no longer be categorical, but dimensional along the severity of personality impairments and optionally regarding the presence of maladaptive personality traits. This study examines the reliability and validity of the German version of the Personality Inventory for ICD-11 (PiCD), a questionnaire designed to assess ICD-11 maladaptive personality domains, in a clinical and n

Cross-cultural validity of the Five-Factor Personality Inventory for ICD-11 across nine countries and validation of a French translation.

This study aimed to assess measurement invariance for the Five-Factor Inventory for ICD-11 (Oltmanns & Widiger, 2020) across nine national samples from four continents (n = 6,342), and to validate a French translation in seven French-speaking national samples. All were convenience samples of adults. Exploratory factor analyses supported a four-factor structure in the French-speaking Western samples (Belgium, Canada, France, and Switzerland) while a three-factor structure was preferred in the French-speaking African samples (Burkina Faso and Togo), and no adequate structure was found in the Ind

Incremental Contribution of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 3 to Predicting One-Year Postoperative Spinal Cord Surgery/Spinal Cord Stimulation Outcomes.

Pre-surgical psychological assessments are becoming common in the United States and are recommended or required prior to surgical/spinal cord stimulator intervention for chronic back pain. Psychological testing is often recommended for these evaluations and the various versions of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) have demonstrated utility for predicting outcomes in this setting. This investigation sought to extend that literature with the newest version of the MMPI, the MMPI-3. The sample comprised of 909 patients (50.5% men, 49.5% women) who consented to participating in

Examination of the Reliability and Validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) in a Preoperative Bariatric Surgery Sample.

Presurgical psychological assessment of bariatric surgery candidates aims to identify psychosocial risk factors and provide treatment recommendations to facilitate optimal outcomes. Such assessment typically includes psychometric testing and a clinical interview. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) has been commonly used as a broadband measure to assess a number of psychosocial domains in bariatric clinics. The newest version of the MMPI, the MMPI-3, was recently released. This study sought to (1) establish whether the MMPI-3 is comparable to the MMPI-2-RF in a sample of pat

A comparative analysis of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory profiles of anorexia nervosa at hospital admission, discharge, and 10-year follow-up.

The assessment of personality variables measured by the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), was compared in a sample of 52 female inpatients with anorexia nervosa at the time of hospitalization, discharge from hospital, and 10 years after treatment. Admission MMPI scores were significantly higher than scores both at discharge and 10 years later. There were no significant overall differences between discharge and follow-up evaluation. Discharge, but not admission, MMPI scores were positively correlated with 10-year follow-up study on seven of 10 clinical MMPI scales (all but hyp

Violence Towards Companion Animals and Perceived Social Support Among Female Intimate Partner Violence Survivors: The Nonsupport scale of the Personality Assessment Inventory.

Violence towards companion animals (CAs) is prevalent in cases of intimate partner violence (IPV), and several studies have emphasized its impact on survivors' well-being and decision-making process. However, little is known about its effect on perceived social support among female IPV survivors. This study aims to address this gap. In this study, a sample of 70 female IPV survivors who owned a CA at the time of the abuse completed a protocol including the Portuguese version of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). Independent samples t-tests compared Nonsupport (NON) scale scores betwee

Validity of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 Eating Concerns (EAT) Scale: A study with National Guard veterans and their romantic partners.

Development and validation of screening tools for eating disorders is crucial for enhancing early intervention efforts among military-connected populations. The recently released Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) includes the novel Eating Concerns (EAT) scale to assess aspects of problematic eating behavior. Our study evaluated the effectiveness of EAT by comparing it to a multidimensional indicator of eating disorder-related pathology. We examined responses from 349 U.S. National Guard veterans and their romantic partners using both the MMPI-3 and the Eating Pathology Sym

Surgical treatment may improve depressive and hysterical traits in temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis: Study using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.

AIM: The influence of surgeries on psychiatric symptoms and personality traits is not well known in patients with intractable temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). We investigated changes in personality traits with respect to postoperative seizure outcomes, etiology, side of surgery, and sex differences. METHODS: Clinical information was retrospectively collected for 44 patients whose Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) was examined before and 1 year after surgical treatment for drug-resistant TLE. Postoperative changes in MMPI T-scores were analyzed using a paired t-test. Participants

Validation of an abbreviated Big Five personality inventory at large population scale: Psychometric structure and associations with common psychiatric and neurological disorders.

BACKGROUND: The five-factor model of personality, as quantified using instruments such as the Big Five Inventory, consists of broad personality domains including Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism (emotional instability), and Openness. Such instruments typically include >40 items. However, instruments with many items can be unwieldly and a cause of measurement error in clinical and cohort studies where multiple scales are sequenced. Conversely, established 5- and 10-item versions of the Big Five Inventory have poor reliability. Here, we developed and validated an abbre

The Inventory of Personality Organization-Reality Testing Subscale and Belief in Science Scale: Confirmatory factor and Rasch analysis of thinking style measures.

The Inventory of Personality Organization-Reality Testing Subscale (IPO-RT) and Belief in Science Scale (BIS) represent indirect, proxy measures of intuitive-experiential and analytical-rational thinking. However, a limited appraisal of factorial structure exists, and assessment of person-item functioning has not occurred. This study assessed the IPO-RT and BIS using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch analysis with a sample of 1030 participants (465 males, 565 females). Correlation analysis revealed a negative, moderate relationship between the measures. CFA supported a bifactorial m

Clinical Utility of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) in a Residential Treatment Program for Homeless Individuals.

The current study examined the clinical utility of the Restructured Form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2-RF) in a residential treatment program for homeless individuals. MMPI-2-RF scale scores from 146 participants with valid profiles were correlated with variables obtained at intake and during treatment. The sample was then followed 12 months postdischarge to test preregistered hypotheses regarding MMPI-2-RF predictors of hospital readmissions. The results indicated that a variety of MMPI-2-RF scale scores were correlated with historical and diagnostic variables a
