The effects of 6 different litter amendments on broiler performance, level of atmospheric ammonia (NH3) concentration, and soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) in litter was determined. Through 3 experiments conducted on 2 different commercial farms, one chemical amendment was added to the litter and then was compared with a control. Broiler performance was not affected by any of the amendments except the ferrous sulfate amendment for which mortality was 25.5%. BACKGROUND: Toxic epidermal necrolysis is a dermatological disease that evolves with an elevated mortality. Our objective was to show the utility of a nonconventional treatment for toxic epidermal necrolysis in place of conventional treatment where the mortality is <50 %. With this suggested treatment, mortality is 0 %.
METHODS: This is a prospective and descriptive study presenting the case of 12 patients with toxic epidermal necrolysis. Diagnosis was made by history of drug ingestion, clinical presentation and skin biopsy, which was corroborated by light microscopy.

A new, simple, clean and selective flow injection strategy based on the tandem photochemical reaction-chemiluminescence detection was applied to the determination of chloramphenicol. The determination is based on the on-line photodegradation of the drug in a glycine buffer at pH 8.8 by using a photoreactor consisting of 697 cmx0.5 mm PTFE tubing helically coiled around an 8 W low-pressure mercury lamp. Photodegradated chloramphenicol is detected by direct chemiluminescence of resulting photo-fragments and their subsequent reaction with potassium permanganate in sulfuric acid medium as oxidant.

BACKGROUND: Amyloidoma in the central nervous system is extremely rare. We describe a rare case of amyloidoma in the gasserian ganglion manifesting as trigeminal neuropathy.
METHODS: A 41-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with progressive numbness and hypalgesia in the distribution of the second and third divisions of the left trigeminal nerve. There was no evidence of chronic inflammatory disorder or immunological abnormalities. Magnetic resonance images showed a mass in the left Meckel's cave that was brightly enhanced with gadolinium.
RESULTS: A reddish, firm mass was successful

A total of 19,075 necropsies and 1169 renal biopsies were scrutinised over a period of 20 years (1973-1992) retrospectively with an aim to study the incidence and pattern of renal amyloidosis in Nair Hospital. A total of 75 cases with amyloidosis were detected, 33 from the necropsy series (0.162%) and 42 from biopsies (3.59%). Secondary amyloidosis was seen in 82.66% and primary amyloidosis in 10.66%. Forty-one cases of typical melanocytic skin lesions (15 intradermal nevi, 14 Spitz nevi and 12 malignant melanomas) were used to investigate the value of staining of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in the differential diagnosis of such pigmented lesions. Histologic sections were stained by the silver colloid (Ag) method, with and without the prior use of a melanin blocking agent.
