Renal and perinephric abscesses involving Lactobacillus jensenii and Prevotella bivia in a young woman following ureteral stent procedure.

is a gram-positive bacillus in the female genital tract believed to be a commensal organism that inhibits the growth of more virulent pathogens. Prevotella bivia is a gram-negative bacillus species also typically commensal in the female genital tract. Lactobacillus as the primary causative agent in perinephric abscesses and bacteremia has been documented, albeit very uncommon and opportunistic. Prevotella bivia is not classically associated with perinephric abscesses but has been implicated in rare cases of pelvic inflammatory disease and tubo-ovarian abscesses. In this report, we present a 26

Fusobacterium bacteriophage FNU1 disrupts complex periodontal pathogenic biofilms comprising Fusobacterium polymorphum, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia and Prevotella intermedia.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting more than 50% of the global population, resulting in irreversible gum damage, alveolar bone loss and ultimately tooth loss. Periodontitis arises from stable, multi-species biofilms whose pathogenicity is driven by emergent ecological interactions persistent to antimicrobial perturbations. Fusobacterium spp. are considered key microbial components that provide scaffolding for this ecological niche, which includes the pathobionts Tannerella forsythia, Prevotella intermedia and Porphyromonas gingivalis. OBJECTIVES: To examined

Daily fluctuation of genus Prevotella in porcine colon under ad libitum feeding and its association with nutrient substrates.

The circadian rhythms of the gut microbiota are biologically significant for the host. However, the association between fluctuations in the relative abundance of the microbiota and nutrient substrates in the gut remains incompletely understood. Using swine as a model, this study employed continuous sampling at 9 time points over 24 h via a colonic T-shaped fistula. It investigated the temporal dynamics of nutrient substrates and Prevotella abundance in the colon of pigs over a 24-h period and further explored dynamic interactions among KEGG level-3 pathways, genes, and Prevotella using metagen

Prevotella copri alleviates diarrhea in weaning piglets through gut microbiota modulation and arachidonic acid-AHR-NRF2 pathway activation.

BACKGROUND: Diarrhea remains a major health concern in both young animals and humans. Prevotella spp., a dominant commensal genus in the healthy porcine gut, becomes increasingly abundant following weaning, suggesting a potential role during this critical transitional period. However, its involvement in post-weaning diarrhea remains poorly understood. Here, we aim to elucidate the role and underlying mechanisms of Prevotella in alleviating diarrhea in weaned piglets. RESULTS: To model unsanitary housing conditions, piglets were housed in uncleaned pens containing residual fecal matter from pr

Microbial interactions among Gardnerella, Prevotella and Fannyhessea prior to incident bacterial vaginosis: protocol for a prospective, observational study.

INTRODUCTION: The aetiology of bacterial vaginosis (BV), a biofilm-associated vaginal infection, remains unknown. Epidemiologic data suggest that it is sexually transmitted. BV is characterised by loss of lactic acid-producing lactobacilli and an increase in facultative and strict anaerobic bacteria. Gardnerella spp are present in 95%-100% of cases; Gardnerella vaginalis has been found to be more virulent than other BV-associated bacteria (BVAB) in vitro. However, G. vaginalis is found in women with normal vaginal microbiota and colonisation is not sufficient for BV development. We hypothesise

Increased Immunity against the Oral Germs Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia in Different Categories of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

(1) Background: The link between periodontal disease and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is now widely reported. Several studies suggest the role of Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) in the pathophysiology of RA and some observations highlight the improvement of the disease activity induced by therapies against P. gingivalis. We have very little data on the prevalence of P. gingivalis carriage in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and its possible involvement in the pathophysiology of inflammatory joint diseases in children. (2) Methods: The specific IgG responses against P. gi

An unusual case report of brain abscess caused by prevotella loescheii identified using the metagenomic next-generation sequencing.

OBJECTIVES: Brain abscess (BA) is a rare and life-threatening disease which remains to be a challenge for physicians despite recent advances in both the diagnosis and treatment strategies. Appropriate management of brain abscesses requires a combined surgical and medical approach to prevent associated life-threatening complications. In clinical practice, new diagnostic techniques, such as metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG), can help physicians identify the causative pathogens of brain abscesses in order to provide early pathogen-targeted

Anaerobic breast abscess caused by Prevotella bivia in non-lactating woman: A case report with diagnostic and clinical implications.

BACKGROUND AND CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Prevotella bivia is an anaerobic Gram-negative bacillus commonly associated with pelvic and genital tract infections. Its isolation from breast abscesses, particularly in nonpuerperal women, is extremely uncommon. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a unique case of a 40-year-old non- lactating woman presenting with a recurrent right breast abscess. The pa- tient experienced three episodes over three years (2022-2025); only the fourth episode was microbiologically confirmed as being caused by P. bivia, identi- fied using MALDI-TOF MS. Antimicrobial susceptibility profile of clinically relevant Bacteroides, Phocaeicola, Parabacteroides and Prevotella species, isolated by eight laboratories in the Netherlands.

OBJECTIVES: Recently, reports on antimicrobial-resistant Bacteroides and Prevotella isolates have increased in the Netherlands. This urged the need for a surveillance study on the antimicrobial susceptibility profile of Bacteroides, Phocaeicola, Parabacteroides and Prevotella isolates consecutively isolated from human clinical specimens at eight different Dutch laboratories. METHODS: Each laboratory collected 20-25 Bacteroides (including Phocaeicola and Parabacteroides) and 10-15 Prevotella isolates for 3 months. At the national reference laboratory, the MICs of amoxicillin, amoxicillin/clavu

Genomic repertoires linked with pathogenic potency of arthritogenic Prevotella copri isolated from the gut of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVES: Prevotella copri is considered to be a contributing factor in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, in some non-Westernised countries, healthy individuals also harbour an abundance of P. copri in the intestine. This study investigated the pathogenicity of RA patient-derived P. copri (P. copri RA) compared with healthy control-derived P. copri (P. copri HC). METHODS: We obtained 13 P. copri strains from the faeces of patients with RA and healthy controls. Following whole genome sequencing, the sequences of P. copri RA and P. copri HC were compared. To analyse the arthritis-inducing a

Altered Intestinal Microbiota with Increased Abundance of Prevotella Is Associated with High Risk of Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Alterations in gut microbiota are postulated to be an etiologic factor in the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). To determine whether IBS patients in China exhibited differences in their gut microbial composition, fecal samples were collected from diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) and healthy controls and evaluated by 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence and quantitative real-time PCR. A mouse model of postinfectious IBS (PI-IBS) was established to determine whether the altered gut microbiota was associated with increased visceral hypersensitivity. The results indicated that there were

Pseudomonas aeruginosa supports the survival of Prevotella melaninogenica in a cystic fibrosis lung polymicrobial community through metabolic cross-feeding.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multi-organ genetic disorder that affects more than 100,000 individuals worldwide. Chronic respiratory infections are among the hallmark complications associated with CF lung disease, and these infections are often due to polymicrobial communities that colonize the airways of persons with CF (pwCF). Such infections are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, with studies indicating that pwCF who are co-infected with more than one organism experience more frequent pulmonary exacerbations, leading to a faster decline in lung function. Prevotella timonensis Bacteria Associated With Vaginal Dysbiosis Enhance Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Susceptibility Of Vaginal CD4+ T Cells.

Dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiome poses a serious risk for sexual human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) transmission. Prevotella spp are abundant during vaginal dysbiosis and associated with enhanced HIV-1 susceptibility; however, underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we investigated the direct effect of vaginal bacteria on HIV-1 susceptibility of vaginal CD4+ T cells. Notably, pre-exposure to Prevotella timonensis enhanced HIV-1 uptake by vaginal T cells, leading to increased viral fusion and enhanced virus production. Pre-exposure to antiretroviral inhibitors abolished P timone

Administration of Human Derived Upper gut Commensal Prevotella histicola delays the onset of type 1 diabetes in NOD mice.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that is increasing in prevalence worldwide. One of the contributing factors to the pathogenesis of T1D is the composition of the intestinal microbiota, as has been demonstrated. in T1D patients, with some studies demonstrating a deficiency in their levels of Prevotella. We have isolated a strain of Prevotella histicola from a duodenal biopsy that has anti-inflammatory properties, and in addition, alters the development of autoimmune diseases in mouse models. Therefore, our hypothesis is that the oral administration of P. histicola migh
