Exploring the use of mobile health among patients with cardiometabolic and respiratory chronic diseases in primary care nursing: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic diseases, such as cardiometabolic and respiratory conditions, are major contributors to global morbidity and mortality. These conditions place a considerable burden on primary care due to rising healthcare costs and increasing patient dependency in daily life. Digital tools, such as mobile health (mHealth), have emerged as promising resources to support chronic disease management in this setting. However, patient adoption of mHealth remains limited, and few studies have specifically examined its use among individuals with multiple chronic conditions. This study aims to exam

Addressing Antiretroviral Therapy Nonadherence for Youth With HIV via a Technology-Enhanced Community Nursing Intervention: Primary Results From the TECH2CHECK Randomized Trial.

PURPOSE: Adherence to antiretroviral treatment (ART) among youth with HIV (YHIV) is critical for viral suppression (VS) and optimal outcomes. Many YHIV face barriers to engaging in standard-of-care (SOC) clinic-based interactions, compromising adherence. METHODS: TECH2CHECK was a randomized controlled trial of a technology-enhanced community health nursing (CHN) intervention designed to address ART adherence versus SOC (#NCT03600103) conducted 2018-2024 in youth-serving HIV clinics in high-burden locales (Baltimore, Maryland, Washington DC, Jacksonville, Florida). Eligible participants, YHIV

The Implementation of Infection Prevention and Control Procedures in Primary Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Qualitative Study of Nursing Roles.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, primary care practices felt poorly supported by existing infection prevention and control (IPAC) guidelines, which focused primarily on acute care facilities. This issue was further complicated by insufficient provision of personal protective equipment in primary care settings, which limited clinic capacity and the ability of primary care to provide in-person services. Nurses play an integral role in the implementation of IPAC procedures and the provision of ongoing primary care during a health crisis; however there is limited literature related to n

Patient disposition after discharge following primary total hip arthroplasty: home versus skilled nursing facility-a study based on national inpatient sample database.

INTRODUCTION: In view of the shortened length of hospital stay following THA, an increasing proportion of patients have required transfer to "extended-care" (ECF) or "skilled nursing" facilities (SNF) over the past years. As a result, the expenditure related to postoperative care facility has been acknowledged as a crucial component of total economic burden associated with THA. In this context, the clinical and demographic factors leading to the need for transfer of patients to SNF following primary THA need to be clearly understood. METHODS: The NIS database was utilised to identify the pati

Nurse-led multicomponent educational intervention in primary care to reduce fear of falling in older adults: a cluster randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Fear of falling (FOF) and falls are prevalent and interconnected. Studies suggest that intervention programs can reduce FOF and prevent falls. The primary objective was to assess the effectiveness of this nurse-led intervention in reducing FOF. METHODS: This two-arm, parallel, multicenter, cluster-randomized clinical trial was conducted in ten primary care facilities in Madrid, Spain. Participants were ≥ 65 years old with FOF, independent or mildly dependent, ambulatory, and cognitively intact. Recruitment began on February 13, 2023, and the final follow-up was completed on May 30,

Factors associated with a positive response to the surprise question in complex chronic patients treated by advanced practice nurses in primary care.

BACKGROUND: The “surprise question” (“Would I be surprised if the patient died within the next 12 months?”) is useful to predict the survival of patients and indicate the requirement for further assessment of their palliative care needs. Knowledge of the factors related to healthcare professionals’ response is important to establish the effectiveness of this question to screen for PC needs. The aim of this study is to determine if PC needs, frailty, survival prognosis, complexity, symptom burden, and psychological distress are related to the response of advanced practice nurses to the Surprise

Narrative review comparing palliative care models in primary and community care settings: For a better integration of nurses' activities and skills.

The World Health Organization highlights significant disparities in access to palliative care (PC), especially in primary and community care. In France, ASALEE is an innovative national association that brings nurses and general practitioners in primary and community care. Initially created to address the support needs of patients living with chronic diseases, the nurses' roles have expanded to include PC. However, despite the growing role of such interprofessional models, research on PC nurses' activities and skills in primary and community care are underdeveloped. To identify, categorize, co

Barriers, facilitators, and proposals for improvement in the implementation of a collaborative care program for depression: a qualitative study of primary care physicians and nurses.

BACKGROUND: Primary care plays a central role in the treatment of depression. Nonetheless, shortcomings in its management and suboptimal outcomes have been identified. Collaborative care models improve processes for the management of depressive disorders and associated outcomes. We developed a strategy to implement the INDI collaborative care program for the management of depression in primary health care centers across Catalonia. The aim of this qualitative study was to evaluate a trial implementation of the program to identify barriers, facilitators, and proposals for improvement. METHODS:

"I didn't feel like a number": The impact of nurse care managers on the provision of buprenorphine treatment in primary care settings.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: To promote increased access to and retention in buprenorphine treatment for opioid use disorder, the New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) implemented the Buprenorphine Nurse Care Manager Initiative (BNCMI) in 2016, in which nurse care managers (NCMs) coordinate buprenorphine treatment in safety-net primary care clinics. To explore how patients experienced the care they received from NCMs, DOHMH staff conducted in-person, in-depth interviews with patients who had, or were currently receiving, buprenorphine treatment at BNCMI clinics. Quality of work life among primary health care nurses in the Jazan region, Saudi Arabia: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Quality of work life (QWL) is defined as the extent to which an employee is satisfied with personal and working needs through participating in the workplace while achieving the goals of the organization. QWL has been found to influence the commitment and productivity of employees in health care organizations, as well as in other industries. However, reliable information on the QWL of primary health care (PHC) nurses is limited. The purpose of this study was to assess the QWL among PHC nurses in the Jazan region, Saudi Arabia. METHODS: A descriptive research design, namely a cross-

Quality of primary care for sexually transmitted diseases in Durban, South Africa: influences of patient, nurse, organizational and socioeconomic characteristics.

Quality of sexually transmitted disease (STD) primary care in South Africa varies widely but reasons for this are poorly understood. We investigated 37 randomly sampled clinics providing STD care, with simulated patients, and staff interviews and record review. Census data provided local socioeconomic indicators. Multiple regression identified independent predictors of quality. Of 271 simulated patient visits, 79% were correctly treated and 39% were correctly managed. Women received worse care, and care tended to be poorer in mainly African and mainly coloured (mixed race) areas. African and I

A conceptual framework for developing a boundary-based confidentiality training programme for primary healthcare nurses managing patients living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: Loss to follow-up and treatment defaulting in HIV care led to hospitalisations for advanced complications, undermining retention strategies. Breaches of confidentiality compel patients into transferring clinics to conceal their HIV status. The shift from traditional nurse-patient relationships to team-based care, while improving comprehensive services, complicates confidentiality maintenance and can increase risks of unintended disclosures, eroding trust. Observations across ten community health centres with nurse-led HIV and AIDS services in the OR Tambo district revealed high rat
