Cervicovagopathy: ligamentous cervical instability and dysstructure as a potential etiology for vagus nerve dysfunction in the cause of human symptoms and diseases.

Vagus nerve dysfunction is implicated in the pathophysiology of many different symptoms and diseases that plague humanity. In many cases, the etiology of this condition remains elusive. One potentially implicating factor is cervical spine pathology, as the 2 vagus nerves are located in the carotid sheath just anterior to the cervical vertebrae. We propose that cervicovagopathy occurs primarily by the slow stretching of the posterior cervical ligaments because of a forward head-facedown lifestyle from excessive cell phone and computer usage. While the excessive stretch and compression on the va

Office-based ultrasound in sports medicine practice.

Increasing knowledge, interest, and visibility in the field of sports medicine has equipped clinicians in the field with a novel array of diagnostic and therapeutic options but has also provided a higher level of complexity in patient care. True understanding of the vast spectrum of radiographic technology available to the sports clinician has become more critical than ever. Advances particularly in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic office ultrasound, and 3-dimensional reconstruction computed tomography, as well as nuclear medicine, offer the clinician a myriad of diagnostic

Efficacy of Radiofrequency as Therapy and Diagnostic Support in the Management of Musculoskeletal Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Radiofrequency (RF) is a minimally invasive procedure used to interrupt or alter nociceptive pathways for treating musculoskeletal pain. It seems a useful tool to relieve chronic pain syndromes, even if, to date, solid evidence is still needed about the effectiveness of this therapy. By this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of RF in treating musculoskeletal pain. PubMed, Medline, Cochrane, and PEDro databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) presenting the following: patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain as participants; R

Polyamine delivery as a tool to modulate stem cell differentiation in skeletal tissue engineering.

The first step in skeleton development is the condensation of mesenchymal precursors followed by any of two different types of ossification, depending on the type of bone segment: in intramembranous ossification, the bone is deposed directly in the mesenchymal anlagen, whereas in endochondral ossification, the bone is deposed onto a template of cartilage that is subsequently substituted by bone. Polyamines and polyamine-related enzymes have been implicated in bone development as global regulators of the transcriptional and translational activity of stem cells and pivotal transcription factors.

Ultrasound-Guided Exercise Therapy Targeting the Supinator and Its Radial Nerve Branch for Refractory Lateral Elbow Pain: A Case Series.

Lateral epicondylitis is commonly attributed to tendinopathy of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB). Although eccentric exercises, prolotherapy, and percutaneous ultrasonic tenotomy (PUT) are frequently used, a subset of patients experience persistent pain. The potential contributions of the supinator muscle and its radial nerve branch to rehabilitation have not been adequately explored. We report three patients (two females and one male; aged 20-59 years) with refractory lateral epicondylitis and residual pain after injection or PUT. All the patients exhibited severe pain during the mod

Effect of exercise on cluneal nerve entrapment neuropathy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is an important disability problem frequently encountered in the clinic. In the literature, it has been shown that neuropathic pain in chronic low back pain is quite common in patients. Although superior cluneal nerve entrapment syndrome is an underdiagnosed cause of low back and leg pain, differential diagnosis is very important anatomically and clinically. The superior cluneal nerves are pure sensory nerves that innervate the skin of the upper part of the buttocks. In the literature, methods such as surgery, nerve blockade, prolotherapy, and acupuncture have been us

Knee Tuberculosis Presenting As Pigmented villonodular Synovitis.

INTRODUCTION: Parsonage-Turner syndrome is a rare condition that is often misdiagnosed by physicians due to the overlapping symptoms with other conditions such as rotator cuff injury and cervical radiculopathy. The etiology of the Parsonage-Turner syndrome is unknown, but has been associated with an immune-mediated response to rheumatic disease, infection, surgery, and immunizations. CASE PRESENTATION: A 18-year-old female former tennis player with a history of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), Ehler-Danlos syndrome (EDS), and two prior right shoulder surgeries presented to the orthopaed

L5-S1 basivertebral nerve ablation for chronic vertebrogenic low back pain following lumbar fusion: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Basivertebral nerve ablation (BVNA) is an established treatment for vertebrogenic low back pain associated with Modic endplate changes, but trials and current on-label use have excluded patients with prior lumbar fusion. The clinical efficacy of BVNA has been established in the SMART (Surgical Multi-Center Assessment of RF Therapy) and INTRACEPT trials. Patients with prior lumbar fusion with symptomatic vertebrogenic low back pain were excluded from these major trials, but remain a clinically significant subgroup of patients who may benefit from BVNA.
