OBJECTIVES: Recurrent ischemic priapism in sickle cell (SS) patients often leads to impotence. Blockage of venous outflow by sickle cells leads to anoxia of the cavernosal smooth muscle with subsequent replacement of the erectile tissue with dense fibrosis. This study evaluates the efficacy of early penile prosthesis implantation in patients with priapism associated with sickle cells disease.

Following the implantation of a silicone tendon prosthesis for reconstruction of a deep flexor tendon, an extensive, dense, contractile fibrosis developed rapidly. The resulting flexion deformity ultimately necessitated an amputation. The amputated specimen was examined by light and electron microscopy. A great many myofibroblasts were seen in the new tendon sheath, which, because of their contractile properties, probably caused the deformity.

METHODS: A multicenter, retrospective cohort study was performed for men undergoing primary IPP placement at 16 high-volume surgical centers. INTRODUCTION: Inflatable penile prosthesis are the definitive treatment for erectile dysfunction. The two most used surgical approaches to position the implants are the penoscrotal and the infrapubic. This report describes a clinical case of a degenerated CoreValve (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) aortic prosthesis in a 59-year-old patient. Videos of a previously described surgical technique for late surgical explantation of a CoreValve are provided. This operation is feasible and easy to perform, partly because of the absence of adhesions at the coronary ostia. This report also comments on the controversy between mechanical and biologic prostheses in patients undergoing renal dialysis.

This report presents the use of a dental implant with an anti-rotational attachment for the retention of a thumb prosthesis. A retention system was manufactured with an attachment (UCLA) screwed into the implant with a two-bar system that was cast in metallic silver palladium.
