Curcumin-loaded Pickering emulsion enhanced the sustained-release performance for chitosan coating and improved the postharvest quality of plum fruits (Prunus salicina).

Curcumin is a promising natural preservative, but its poor solubility and susceptibility to photo-oxidation limit its application in active coatings. This study developed a cellulose nanofiber-stabilized curcumin Pickering emulsion incorporated into chitosan for postharvest plum preservation. The Pickering emulsion prepared at a water-to-oil ratio of 40:10 (w/w) exhibited uniform droplet distribution and good electrostatic stability. Its incorporation enhanced the mechanical performance and water resistance of PE/CS coating films, while FTIR and XRD analyses indicated hydrogen-bonding interact

A Prunus persica genome-wide RNA-seq approach uncovers major differences in the transcriptome among chilling injury sensitive and non-sensitive varieties.

Chilling injury represents a major constrain for crops productivity. Prunus persica, one of the most relevant rosacea crops, have early season varieties that are resistant to chilling injury, in contrast to late season varieties, which display chilling symptoms such as mealiness (dry, sandy fruit mesocarp) after prolonged storage at chilling temperatures. To uncover the molecular processes related to the ability of early varieties to withstand mealiness, postharvest and genome-wide RNA-seq assessments were performed in two early and two late varieties. Differences in juice content and ethylene

Cardiovascular impact of consumption of sulfured-dried Malatya apricots (Prunus armeniaca L.) at varying SO2 levels: A comprehensive assessment in a rat model.

Apricots known as "sulfured-dried" are those dried under the sun with sulfur dioxide (SO2), which extends their shelf life. Although sun-dried apricots are renowned for their cardiovascular benefits, the cardiovascular effects of sulfured-dried apricots (SDAs) remain poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we designed the present study to investigate the cardiovascular effects of consuming SDAs at varying SO2 levels in a rat model. The rats were randomly assigned to 6 groups. The Control group received standard rat chow, while the other 5 groups were fed a diet containing 10 % SDAs w

Capillary liquid chromatography-ion trap-mass spectrometry methodology for the simultaneous quantification of four angiotensin-converting enzyme-inhibitory peptides in Prunus seed hydrolysates.

Prunus genus fruit seeds are sources of highly angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory peptides. The presence of peptides IYSPH, IYTPH, IFSPR, and VAIP seems to be related to this activity but no previous work has demonstrated the direct relationship between the concentration of these peptides and the antihypertensive activity of hydrolysates. This work describes the development of a method for the quantification of these peptides in Prunus seeds hydrolysates based on capillary liquid chromatography-IT-MS/MS. The analytical characteristics of the method were evaluated through the stud
