Boosting Solanum tuberosum resistance to Alternaria solani through green synthesized ferric oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles.

Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is the third crucial global crop facing threats from Alternaria solani, a necrotrophic fungal pathogen causing early blight disease. Beyond crop impact, it leads to substantial production reduction and economic losses worldwide. This study introduces a green synthesis method for producing Ferric Oxide nanoparticles (FNPs) using dried Guava (Psidium guajava) leaves. Guava leaf extract acts as a reducing agent, with iron (III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3·6H2O) as the oxidizing agent. This study employed various characterization techniques for Ferric Oxide nanoparticles

In vitro antimalarial activity of extracts of some plants from a biological reserve in Costa Rica.

Treatment with the usual antimalarial drugs, have induced parasite resistance, reinforcing the need to finding natural antimalarial components that would be found on plants from the forest. Therefore, we decided to look for these components in Costa Rican plants from a protected forest area. Fresh and dry extracts of roots, bark, leaves, flowers and fruits of 25 plants from a biological reserve in Costa Rica, Reserva Biol6gica Alberto Manuel Brenes (REBAMB), were studied in vitro for the presence of substances with antimalarial activity. By studying the inhibition of P berghei schizogony, we a

Host susceptibility of citrus cultivars to Queensland fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae).

Citrus crops are considered to be relatively poor hosts for Queensland fruit fly, Bactrocera tryoni (Froggatt), as for other tephritid species. Australian citrus growers and crop consultants have reported observable differences in susceptibility of different citrus cultivars under commercial growing conditions. In this study we conducted laboratory tests and field surveys to determine susceptibility to B. tryoni of six citrus cultivars [(Eureka lemon (Citrus limon (L.) Osbeck); Navel and Valencia oranges (C. sinensis (L.) Osbeck); and Imperial, Ellendale, and Murcott mandarins (C. reticulata B

Structural characterization, α-glucosidase inhibitory and DPPH scavenging activities of polysaccharides from guava.

To explore the chemicals responsible for the health benefits of guava, water-soluble polysaccharides were extracted including GP90 and P90. They exhibited excellent α-glucosidase inhibition activity with an EC50 of 2.27μg/mL and 0.18mg/mL. This suggests that their activities were 1379- and 17-fold higher than the positive control. The DPPH scavenging activities of GP90 was even higher than Vc at some concentrations. Upon further isolation, a novel polysaccharide termed GB90-1B was obtained. Monosaccharide analysis, methylation analysis, and NMR were used to analyze the structural characterizat

Evaluation of a mouthrinse containing guava leaf extract as part of comprehensive oral care regimen- a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: The control of biofilm adherence on tooth surface has always been the keystone of periodontal therapeutic systems. However, prevalence of gingivitis suggest inadequacy of self-performed oral hygiene measures and need for adjunctive aid for mechanical plaque control. Oral rinses containing chlorhexidine, has been widely used however, with certain limitations. Herbal products have been used widely reflecting its action as alternative and complementary remedy. Hence, the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant efficacy of a Guava leaf extract bas
