Background: Periodontitis is a highly prevalent chronic inflammatory disease characterized by a complex host-microbe interaction and modulated by systemic regulatory pathways, including stress-related neuroendocrine and immunological mechanisms. Mind-body movement-based interventions such as yoga, tai chi, and qigong have demonstrated beneficial effects on stress and inflammation in general medicine, yet their relevance for periodontal health has not been systematically mapped. Methods: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the PRISMA-ScR

Sarcopenia is characterized by the progressive loss of muscle mass, strength, and function, predominantly affecting the elderly population, and has emerged as a significant public health concern in the context of global aging. Its pathogenesis is multifactorial, involving aging-related processes, imbalances in skeletal muscle homeostasis, mitochondrial dysfunction, immune-mediated inflammation, and gut microbiota dysbiosis. Recent studies suggest that traditional therapies, including traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)-such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, and qigong-when integrated with modern

Management of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) remains a challenge due to poor understanding on its etiology. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), as an optional treatment, has been widely used, because no definitive conventional therapy is available. The different domain of CAM provides miscellaneous treatments for IC/BPS, which mainly include dietary modification, nutraceuticals, bladder training, biofeedback, yoga, massage, physical therapy, Qigong, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Clinical evidence has shown that each therapy can certainly benefit

Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative condition characterized by bradykinesia, rigidity, resting tremor, and postural instability. Non-motor symptoms, including pain, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, and depression to name a few, are increasingly recognized and often just as disabling at motor symptoms. The mainstay of treatment is dopamine replacement; however, the beneficial effects tend to wane over time with disease progression, and patients often experience motor fluctuations and medication side effects. The lack of a disease-modifying intervention and the shortcomings of t

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Many people living with cancer use complementary therapies, and some of the most popular are mind-body therapies (MBTs), including relaxation and imagery, hypnosis, yoga, meditation, tai chi and qigong, and art therapies. The efficacy of these modalities was reviewed by assessing recent findings in the context of cancer care.
RECENT FINDINGS: These therapies show efficacy in treating common cancer-related side effects, including nausea and vomiting, pain, fatigue, anxiety, depressive symptoms and improving overall quality of life. Some also have effects on biomarkers such a

In recent years, spinal disorders, spinal deformities, and scoliosis have become more frequent, especially chronic systemic inflammatory diseases, such as early-onset scoliosis, idiopathic scoliosis, and ankylosis spondylitis, which have unknown causes, insidious onset, and progressive development, resulting in irreversible spinal joint deformities and stiffness at advanced stages and high disability rates. As one of the traditional Chinese health and fitness qigong exercises, Taijiquan has the effect of strengthening the waist and kidneys, sparing the tendons and softening the body, unblockin

BACKGROUND: Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation may benefit adults with atrial fibrillation or those who had been treated for atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is caused by multiple micro re-entry circuits within the atrial tissue, which result in chaotic rapid activity in the atria.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the benefits and harms of exercise-based rehabilitation programmes, alone or with another intervention, compared with no-exercise training controls in adults who currently have AF, or have been treated for AF.
SEARCH METHODS: We searched the following electronic databases; CENTRAL

The high comorbidity rates of depression and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have garnered widespread attention. As a refractory disease, its long-term stress effects exacerbate the coexistence of depression. Depression is linked to a decline in lung function in patients with COPD through reduced heart rate variability, increased inflammatory cytokines, dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and the interplay of various biological and psychological factors. Sole reliance on biomedical treatment cannot fully counteract these negative effects, which are detrimenta

BACKGROUND: Post-operative breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy frequently experience concurrent upper limb dysfunction and chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment, creating a synergistic burden that complicates rehabilitation. Existing interventions often target these issues in isolation. Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese mind-body exercise, integrates physical movement with cognitive engagement, making it a promising candidate for addressing both domains simultaneously. However, robust evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was lacking. This RCT aimed to evaluate the ef

Dyspnoea is a common and distressing symptom experienced by people with cancer which can impact physical functioning, mental health and quality of life (QoL). Mind-body interventions (MBIs) involving physical and mental practices are based on the belief that movement, cognition and emotions influence physical and spiritual well-being. This review investigated the effect of MBIs on dyspnoea and associated outcomes in people with cancer. Searches were performed using seven different electronic databases for studies published after January 1, 2013, with the keywords combined for cancer, dyspnoea

To systematically compare the effectiveness of different exercise therapies for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), we conducted a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials based on searches of nine databases up to February 19, 2025. The review included 25 randomized controlled trials, with 20 trials (n = 2,831) eligible for network meta-analysis. Graded exercise therapy (GET) showed relatively superior short-term effects on fatigue (mean difference [MD]: -6.93, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -10.85 to -3.01; moderate certainty), depression (MD: -5.27, 95% CI: -7.3

Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Qigong, we designed a new anti-G maneuver, the Q-G Maneuver, which has proved promising. This maneuver consists of volition mobilization, stepwise tensing of leg and abdominal muscles, and maintenance of a shallow thoracic respiration throughout. It was tested on 24 pilots on the ground and 3 pilots on a centrifuge. All pilots were monitored with heart level blood pressure, oximetry, ear lobe pulse, CO2 concentration in exhaled gas, EEG and ECG; in centrifuge runs, peripheral vision was also monitored. Blood pressure was maintained at 180-240 mm Hg
