The absorbance of melanin content from dorsal feathers was compared between wild-type Japanese quail and nine other quail plumage colours determined by single mutations in one of seven genes: extended brown (MC1R), yellow (ASIP), silver (MITF), lavender (MLPH), roux (TYRP1), imperfect albinism (SLC45A2) and rusty. As compared with wild-type quail, all mutations but extended brown decreased total melanins. The largest decrease was observed in quail with one of the dilution mutations at TYRP1, MLPH or SLCA45A2. CASE: Girl of 10.5 years old who presents anaphylactic reaction after she ate an uncooked quail's egg. She had eaten boiled quail's egg before. She eats chicken's eggs without clinical symptoms.
METHODS: We made a prick to chicken's egg and prick-by-prick to uncooked quail's and raw chicken's egg. We determined specific IgE to chicken's egg; electrophoresis and IgE by immunoblot to eggs from chicken, duck, goose, and quail.

Morphologic changes in the tegmentum vasculosum (TV) of adult quail after high intensity sound exposure were studied. Accordingly to the subacute toxicity of chlorphacinone to Japanese quail (LC 50: 60 mg/kg feed), the uptake of Delicia-chlorphacinone-baits for several days can be lethal to birds as a matter of principle. A subchronic study resulted in a "no-observed-effect-level" of 1 mg chlorphacinon/kg feed. Reproduction is not affected until dose levels which resulted in lethality or are accompanied by physiological changes (coagulability of blood, microcytic anaemia). Increased sensibility of descendants to chlorphacinone cannot be derived from the findings.

The metabolism of DHT in the cytosol of the quail uropygial gland was found to be so high that the steroid was almost completely inactivated within 2 hours of incubation at 0 C. In these conditions, DHT cannot be used for the characterization of androgen receptors. By contrast, R 1881 and mibolerone, which are not metabolized, can be used as alternative ligands. Moreover, the extremely high metabolism of DHT questions the physiologic role of this steroid in the quail uropygial gland.

Anterior pituitary glands from ovulating Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix) were used to investigate variation in sensitivity to chicken luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (cLHRH I; Gln8-LHRH).
