Examining Test Cutoffs to Optimize Diagnosis of Latent Tuberculosis Infection in People Born Outside the United States.

Rationale: Detection of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in persons born in high tuberculosis (TB) incidence countries living in low TB incidence countries is key to TB elimination in low-incidence countries. Optimizing LTBI tests is critical to targeting treatment. Objectives: To compare the sensitivity and specificity of tuberculin skin test (TST) and two interferon-γ release assays at different cutoffs and of a single test versus dual testing. Methods: We examined a subset (N = 14,167) of a prospective cohort of people in the United States tested for LTBI. We included non-U.S.-born, hum

Umbilical cord bilirubin as a predictor of neonatal jaundice: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Hyperbilirubinaemia is a major cause of neonatal morbidity. Early identification of those infants most at risk might allow the development of targeted primary preventative therapy and follow-up. The objective of this study was to assess whether arterial umbilical cord bilirubin (aUCB) level at delivery predicts the development of neonatal jaundice in term deliveries. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of hospital biochemistry records identified term deliveries with recorded aUCB. Infant medical records were reviewed to identify those who developed neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia (requir

Pelvic Obliquity: A Possible Risk Factor for Curve Progression After Lumbosacral Hemivertebra Resection with Short Segmental Fusion.

BACKGROUND: A lumbosacral hemivertebra poses a unique problem, as it leads to a long compensatory curve above it and an obvious main curve. One-stage posterior hemivertebra resection with short segmental fusion is a standard surgery for patients with congenital scoliosis, but curve progression often occurs after surgery. The objective of this study was to investigate the risk factors for curve progression in patients who underwent 1-stage posterior hemivertebra resection with short segmental fusion. METHODS: This study included 58 Han Chinese patients with congenital scoliosis who underwent 1
