Doppler Radar Sensor-Based Fall Detection Using a Convolutional Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Model.

Falls among the elderly are a common and serious health risk that can lead to physical injuries and other complications. To promptly detect and respond to fall events, radar-based fall detection systems have gained widespread attention. In this paper, a deep learning model is proposed based on the frequency spectrum of radar signals, called the convolutional bidirectional long short-term memory (CB-LSTM) model. The introduction of the CB-LSTM model enables the fall detection system to capture both temporal sequential and spatial features simultaneously, thereby enhancing the accuracy and relia

Implementation of Adaptive-Bayesian DStoch technique for obtaining winds from MST radar covering higher altitudes.

It is challenging to estimate winds accurately from higher altitudes using VHF-MST radar. The current study introduces the Adaptive-Bayesian Deterministic Stochastics Technique (ADStoch), which implements an Empirical Bayesian 1D prediction method using stochastics to analyze radar signals. A new and robust estimator for empirical wavelet shrinkage with Gaussian prior of the nonzero mean for wavelet coefficients is presented, which makes the current prior different from other priors. The mean parameters and the prior covariance hyperparameters follow a pseudo maximum likelihood method for comp

Real Aperture Radar Super-Resolution Imaging for Sea Surface Monitoring Based on a Hybrid Model.

In recent years, super-resolution imaging techniques have been intensely introduced to enhance the azimuth resolution of real aperture scanning radar (RASR). However, there is a paucity of research on the subject of sea surface imaging with small incident angles for complex scenarios. This research endeavors to explore super-resolution imaging for sea surface monitoring, with a specific emphasis on grounded or shipborne platforms. To tackle the inescapable interference of sea clutter, it was segregated from the imaging objects and was modeled alongside I/Q channel noise within the maximum like

Human Health Risk Assessment of 4-12 GHz Radar Waves using CST STUDIO SUITE Software.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 50% of dental amalgam is elemental mercury by weight. Accumulating body of evidence now shows that not only static magnetic fields (SMF) but both ionizing and non-ionizing electromagnetic radiations can increase the rate of mercury release from dental amalgam fillings. Iranian scientists firstly addressed this issue in 2008 but more than 10 years later, it became viral worldwide. OBJECTIVE: This review was aimed at evaluating available data on the magnitude of the effects of different physical stressors (excluding chewing and brushing) on the release of toxic mercury

1-Tx/5-Rx Through-Wall UWB Switched-Antenna-Array Radar for Detecting Stationary Humans.

This research proposes a through-wall S-band ultra-wideband (UWB) switched-antenna-array radar scheme for detection of stationary human subjects from respiration. The proposed antenna-array radar consists of one transmitting (Tx) and five receiving antennas (Rx). The Tx and Rx antennas are of Vivaldi type with high antenna gain (10 dBi) and narrow-angle directivity. The S-band frequency (2-4 GHz) is capable of penetrating non-metal solid objects and detecting human respiration behind a solid wall. Under the proposed radar scheme, the reflected signals are algorithmically preprocessed and filte

Causes of death among Belgian professional military radar operators: a 37-year retrospective cohort study.

Concerns have been raised about the safety of the electromagnetic (microwave) emissions of radars, as well as about the ionizing radiation that is emitted on short distances (<2 m) by devices in the radars producing the microwaves. We retrospectively compared the cause specific mortality of 4,417 Belgian professional male military personnel who served in anti-aircraft radar units in Germany between 1963 and 1994 to the cause specific mortality of 2,932 Belgian military personnel who served at the same time in the same place in battalions not equipped with radars. Mean follow-up was 26 years in

A European collaborative initiative to systematically map cancer risk by migration background: the Cancer RADAR project.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization (WHO) Action Plan for Refugee and Migrant Health highlights the need for strengthened migration health governance and data-informed policies. A major barrier in Europe has been the lack of systematically collected and comparable cancer data stratified by migration background. METHODS: This study assesses the availability of routine data to map and examines differences of cancer risk among those with a migration background in Europe. The cancer types selected (breast, colorectal, cervical, stomach, liver, and lung) are either infection-related or amena

Radiomics of the Airway (RadAr): Multi-Scale Airway Phenotyping for Disease Characterization on Routine CT Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Airway remodeling is a convergent feature across respiratory diseases, yet current quantitative CT tools quantify a small number of prespecified structural abnormalities of the airway tree. Radiomics of the Airway (RadAr) derives interpretable, multi-scale airway measurements from chest CT to characterize airway deformation and discover quantitative imaging biomarkers from routine chest CT. METHODS: RadAr extracts over 400 multi-scale, interpretable airway measurements across lobes or generations capturing luminal dimensions, tapering, architectural distortion, and global morpholo

Visualization of acetabular coverage with radar chart before and after curved periacetabular osteotomy in dysplastic hips.

BACKGROUND: Curved periacetabular osteotomy (CPO) is indicated for patients with developmental dysplasia of hip (DDH) to prevent progressive osteoarthritis. Patients with DDH have not only lateral acetabulum dysplasia but also anterior and posterior dysplasia. The full circumference acetabular coverage angle (ACA) of the femoral head should be evaluated preoperatively. This study aimed to determine the full circumference ACA in the patients with DDH before and after CPO compared with the coverage in normal patients. METHODS: Twenty-three patients (a total of 24 hips) with DDH undergoing CPO b

Imaging of complications following treatment with assisted reproductive technology: keep on your radar at each step.

Since the advent of assisted reproductive technology (ART), the utilization of ART procedures has become increasingly popular among women seeking to establish pregnancy. Radiologists are therefore likely to encounter the various complications of ART therapy. The most common is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome; others are multiple, ectopic, and heterotopic pregnancies. Ultrasonography is considered the initial modality to investigate ART complications, However, nonspecific symptoms might need the use of an additional imaging modality, such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging,

Continuous In-Bed Monitoring of Vital Signs Using a Multi Radar Setup for Freely Moving Patients.

In hospitals, continuous monitoring of vital parameters can provide valuable information about the course of a patient's illness and allows early warning of emergencies. To enable such monitoring without restricting the patient's freedom of movement and comfort, a radar system is attached under the mattress which consists of four individual radar modules to cover the entire width of the bed. Using radar, heartbeat and respiration can be measured without contact and through clothing. By processing the raw radar data, the presence of a patient can be determined and movements are categorized into

Risk of anaphylaxis with repeated courses of rasburicase: a Research on Adverse Drug Events and Reports (RADAR) project.

BACKGROUND: Rasburicase, a recombinant urate oxidase, is used to rapidly metabolize uric acid in patients with hyperuricaemia. Rasburicase is an immunogenic therapeutic protein, which has been shown to elicit antibody response in 64 % of healthy volunteers within 1-6 weeks after the initial course, with persistent antibodies for over 1 year. Drug labelling indicates that anaphylaxis rarely occurs (in <1 % of patients) after a single course of therapy with rasburicase, but there are no data available on the incidence of anaphylaxis in patients receiving a subsequent rasburicase course. SGE-Flow: 4D mmWave Radar 3D Object Detection via Spatiotemporal Geometric Enhancement and Inter-Frame Flow.

4D millimeter-wave radar provides a promising solution for robust perception in adverse weather. Existing detectors still struggle with sparse and noisy point clouds, and maintaining real-time inference while achieving competitive accuracy remains challenging. We propose SGE-Flow, a streamlined PointPillars-based 4D radar 3D detector that embeds lightweight spatiotemporal geometric enhancements into the voxelization front-end. Velocity Displacement Compensation (VDC) leverages compensated radial velocity to align accumulated points in physical space and improve geometric consistency. Distribut

Robust 3D Multi-Object Tracking via 4D mmWave Radar-Camera Fusion and Disparity-Domain Depth Recovery.

4D millimeter-wave radar provides high-precision ranging capability and exhibits strong robustness under adverse weather and low-visibility conditions, but its point clouds are relatively sparse and suffer from severe elevation-angle measurement noise. Monocular cameras, by contrast, provide rich semantic information and high recall, yet are fundamentally limited by scale ambiguity. To exploit the complementary characteristics of these two sensors, this paper proposes a radar-camera fusion 3D multi-object tracking framework that does not rely on complex 3D annotated data. First, on the radar s

Modular Performance Analysis of a Cascaded TDM-MIMO FMCW Radar for Short-Range Counter-UAV Sensing.

Small unmanned aerial vehicles are difficult short-range radar targets because their millimeter-wave radar cross-sections often fall between -10 and -25 dBsm. This paper presents a modular analytical and simulation-based benchmark of a cascaded 77 GHz TDM-MIMO FMCW radar with 12 transmitters and 16 receivers, yielding a 192-element virtual ULA over a 40 m instrumented range. The framework is organized around the main counter-UAV sensing functions: range-Doppler processing first evaluates target observability and provides range-Doppler gates; Doppler-dependent TDM phase compensation is then req

Relationship between lightning and ice hydrometeors in thunderstorms over northern India from polarimetric weather radar observations.

In this study we have investigated the relationship between lightning and ice-hydrometeors for thunderstorms over northern India. We have implemented a hydrometeor identification (HID) algorithm on a C-band polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) data to get information on the ice-hydrometeors and utilized lightning flash data of both cloud-to-ground (CG) and intracloud (IC) type lightnings, from Indian Lightning Location Network (ILLN). Seven prominent thunderstorm events, comprising a total of 385 radar volume scans, have been used in this study. The study reveals a good spatial association

Separation of thoracic and abdominal measurements in neonatal vital sign monitoring using radar vision fusion system.

Non-contact, rapid and accurate measurement of respiratory rates (RR) and heart rates (HR) in neonates has significant clinical importance. Existing methods predominantly focus on thoracic respiratory signal measurement. This thoracic-focused approach, when applied to neonates who exhibit predominantly abdominal breathing, leads to a low signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) that compromises the accuracy of RR measurement compared with using abdominal signal. Moreover, neonatal and staff motion in clinical environments pose challenges for the robustness of monitoring systems. In this paper, a met

Evaluating Cardiac Impairment From Abnormal Respiratory Patterns: Insights From a Wireless Radar and Deep Learning Study.

OBJECTIVES: Assessing the bidirectional impacts of heart function impairment and sleep-disordered breathing remains underexplored. Thus, this study analyzed respiratory patterns from a wireless radar framework to explore their associations with echocardiographic (2D-echo) measurements. METHODS: Background details, 2D-echo parameters, and biochemical data were collected from patients in a cardiology ward in northern Taiwan. Their radar-based respiratory patterns from the night before and the night of the 2D-echo were obtained, averaged, and used to derive indices such as the respiratory distur
