To assess capsulolabral lesions present in patients after unsuccessful arthroscopic procedures, we reviewed the records of 20 patients who had undergone open shoulder procedures after unsuccessful arthroscopic Bankart procedures for chronic shoulder instability. The Bankart lesion had initially been repaired arthroscopically by transglenoid sutures (N = 10), bioabsorbable tacks (N = 7), suture anchors (N = 2), or arthroscopic screws (N = 1). Five of the 20 patients (25%) had reinjuries to the shoulder after the arthroscopic procedure. The average time from the arthroscopic to the open procedur

PURPOSE: It has been quoted that the graft is more prone to injury in the early stages of ligamentization between 3 and 6 months when the muscles are weak and compliance with post-op protocol is waning. Purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional outcome of avoiding postoperative bracing following ACL reconstruction and early enhanced recovery protocol on the reinjuries of graft.
METHODS: Thirty-two consecutive patients who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction by a single surgeon in the same specialist center between October 2015 and May 2017 were included in the study. All the

Surgical reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and subsequent physical therapy can help athletes return to competition; however, re-injury rates remain disproportionately high due, in part, to lingering biomechanical and neurological factors that are not fully addressed during rehabilitation. Prior reports indicate that individuals exhibit altered electrical activity in both brain and muscle after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). In this investigation, we aimed to extend existing approaches by introducing a novel non-linear analysis of corticomuscular dynamics, which does not assume

CASE: A 13-year-old adolescent boy presented with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) insufficiency and prior medial meniscectomy. Radiographic evaluation revealed a posterior tibial slope (PTS) of 20°, putting him at high risk of reinjury following ACL reconstruction (ACLR). Guided growth using anteriorly placed eight plates was used for 9 months, which reduced his PTS to 6°. Two months following plate removal, the patient underwent ACLR with lateral extra-articular tenodesis.
CONCLUSION: This previously proposed but never reported approach suggests that guided growth is a viable option

We aimed to determine whether the anatomical location (intramuscular tendon or T-Junction) of hamstring muscle injuries in professional men's rugby union associates with a prolonged time to return to full training and a higher rate of re-injury/subsequent injury. We reviewed the medical records of an Irish professional rugby union club to identify hamstring muscle injuries incurred across five seasons. Clinicians and players were not blinded to MRI results at the time of rehabilitation. A blinded musculoskeletal radiologist re-classified all included injuries (n = 91) according to the British

PURPOSE: The reason for graft failure after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is multifactorial. Controversies remain regarding the predominant factor and incidence of failure aetiology in the literature. This review aimed to provide a meta-analysis of the literature to evaluate the relative proportion of various failure modes among patients with ACLR failure.
METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and EBSCO databases were searched for literature on ACLR failure or revision from 1975 to 2021. Data related to causes for ACLR surgical failure were extracte

Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) and tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) are debilitating conditions reported to occur after ankle sprain due to their proximity to the ankle complex. The objective of this study was to investigate the incidence of PTTD and TTS in the 2 years following an ankle sprain and which variables are associated with its onset. In total, 22,966 individuals in the Military Health System diagnosed with ankle sprain between 2010 and 2011 were followed for 2 years. The incidence of PTTD and TTS after ankle sprain was identified. Binary logistic regression was used to ident

CASE: A 19-year-old woman sustained a plantar flexion-inversion injury to her right ankle after a low-speed motor vehicle collision. Clinical examination demonstrated supinated, adducted deformity of the foot, and prominent calcaneus laterally. Radiographs revealed dislocation of the calcaneocuboid joint, a rare injury, which was successfully stabilized by a novel technique using a hamstring allograft. The presentations and clinical and surgical management of this rare condition are discussed.
CONCLUSION: We present a technique that has shown good long-term results in a young patient with rec

Intraligamentous injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injuries are rare in children and adolescents and often occur as a result of sports injuries. Clinically, they usually present as a hemarthrosis. The diagnosis of choice is the MRI examination. Surgical treatment of intraligamentary ACL injuries using the transphyseal technique is now also the gold standard treatment for children and adolescents, leg axis and length checks are necessary after surgery until growth is complete. Meniscus injuries are also addressed surgically. Postoperative follow-up treatment and reha

OBJECTIVE: MRI screening is increasingly used in elite cricket to support the early detection of lumbar bone stress injuries (LBSIs). However, its impact on injury outcomes and career trajectories remains unclear. This study evaluated short-term and long-term outcomes from LBSI in young male fast bowlers, comparing injuries detected through MRI screening with those detected clinically.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analysed 15 years (2009-2024) of injury surveillance data from the England and Wales Cricket Board. LBSIs in male fast bowlers (aged 16-24) were classified as screening-

Females are at greatest risk for reinjury after return to sport (RTS) following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (ACLR). The reasons for these sex differences, however, remain unclear. Psychological factors such as kinesiophobia have been identified as a potential predictor for reinjury following RTS. Studies investigating kinesiophobia have identified sex differences, yet whether this holds in the ACLR population remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine whether there are sex differences in kinesiophobia and other psychological factors, such as readiness to RTS

Overstrain tendonitis are common pathologies in the sport horses. Therapeutic approaches to tendon healing do not always result in a satisfactory anatomical and functional repair, and healed tendon is often characterized by functional impairment and high risk of reinjury. Recently, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and platelet rich plasma (PRP) have been proposed as novel therapeutic treatments to improve the tendon repair process. MSCs are multipotent, easy to culture and being originated from adult donors do not pose ethical issues. To date, autologous MSCs have been investigated mainly in the

Muscle injuries are the most common sports-related injuries, with hamstring involvement most common in professional athletes. These injuries can lead to significant time lost from play and have a high risk of reinjury. We review the anatomy, mechanisms of injury, diagnostic imaging modalities, and treatment techniques for hamstring injuries. We also present the latest evidence related to return to play (RTP) after hamstring injuries, including a review of articles targeted to RTP in European soccer (Union of European Football Associations), American football (National Football League), and oth

Rabbit arteries, de-endothelialized with an intravascular balloon catheter and allowed to heal for 4 weeks, showed intimal changes that were similar to the preatherosclerotic fibromusculoelastic plaques of man. Reinjury of the healed vessels by balloon catheter produced marked quantitative and qualitative alterations of hemostasis, as compared to that in previously uninjured vessels. The most apparent modification of thrombogenesis 10 minutes after injury to the plaque was a large increase in the size of the thrombotic deposits. Features of this exaggerated response were the major participatio

Background: A comprehensive rehabilitation program is recommended following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) to restore function, strength and lower limb stability. Despite advancements in surgical techniques, high reinjury rates highlight the need to refine rehabilitation strategies. This study investigates performance across various physically demanding tasks and compares outcomes between the injured and uninjured leg, using a modified Back in Action (BIA) test battery. It is hypothesized that due to test learning effects patients exhibit faster improvement in coordinatively

BACKGROUND/AIM: An injury sustained during sports activity can lead to the development of reinjury anxiety and hamper performance. Although tools exist to assess re-injury anxiety, a domain of interest in the field of sports medicine, research in the psychological impact of an orofacial injury is rudimentary. The present study envisaged to develop an instrument to assess the presence of reinjury anxiety following orofacial and dental injury in boxers aged between 10 and 16 years.
METHODS: In Phase 1, items were generated following literature search and focus-group discussions (FGD). In Phase

CONTEXT: Kinesiophobia, defined as the fear of reinjury and movement, is a risk factor for recurrent shoulder instability and remains unchanged unless specifically treated in clinical practice. Fear of reinjury is a reason for athletes not returning to sport after shoulder instability or stabilization surgery. Although physical rehabilitation is commonly used to address deficits in strength and range of motion after shoulder stabilization surgery, there are few documented clinical strategies to address kinesiophobia in athletes after shoulder stabilization surgery.
